Hi All,

Thought I'd share my solution for continuing to backup an S25 Ultra as the Google account 17 GB free storage began dwindling to <10% remaining. Note: I use an external flash drive to make a full device backup ~1x per month with the Smartswitch app and do not upload my mobile photos to Google. I do have some other folders and a synced docs folder for other things.

I've been automatically backing up data to the Google One account with no issues for years. Also setup the Contacts app on my Mac's to sync with my Google account. As of late, available Google cloud storage has gotten too close to maxing out.

After hunting around a while I decided to use Samsung backup (up to 15 GB or so is free) as the primary cloud backup method for my S25U and Google One with the only available toggle "Back up other device data" turned off. This approach got my Google account back down to ~32% allocated storage. If it were possible to not backup MMS & SMS data then ~50% of that storage would be free but there was no way to configure it that way. Guess I could also nuke MMS and SMS data however, it does come in handy to be able to scroll back through text messages to find things.

Anyone else have creative cloud backup strategies or do you just pay monthly for more storage?

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I ended up giving in and paying$10/mo for more storage and I don't even think about it anymore.

Totally get it. Nearing retirement and looking for ways to reduce monthly expenses, not add more 😉

Should not be an issue at all in my opinion- if only there were a few additional backup fine tuning options or selections. Apple did the same with iCloud iPhone backups ~2018 or so. The size of the phone backup began taking up most of the free storage allocation.

I just physically back my A34 up to my laptop, external drive and my Mac at work. I can't be bothered paying for cloud storage.

Doesn't the S25U come with 6 mo. of AI Pro? That's 2 TB cloud storage for free.
Alternatively, buy a Pixel Pro phone via Amazon, redeem the free AI Pro for 1 year, and return the phone. You still get to keep the free trial.
Also, if you have Office 365, you get 1TB for each user you share the account with.

Thanks for the info.

I don't participate in free manufacturer offers that eventually turn into subscriptions. That is how they get you hooked

I really have no need for oodles of cloud storage or AI Pro as "free" ChatGPT, claude.ai and duck.ai resources suffice.

Also, I use a 2021 MS Office for Mac perpetual license (paid $49 for it, one time).
