Samsung Galaxy Note 10

Not sure how true it is, but when I went to check out the Note 10 at bestbuy, the rep said that the notes come pre installed with a screen protector.

Yes like GM I noticed the few unboxing reviews note there is a screen protector pre installed, most also show a free clear back case

So that's another $60 to $100 worth of freebies in the box compared to some OEMs that many seem to overlook when they do their price comparisons and/or I bought it for X and sold it for Y along with sales tax also conveniently missed 🙄

When you work out true cost of ownership including all accessories most buy before you even come to apps or carrier charges etc most Samsung owners are $200-350 in front on pre-order or if you wait 3 or 4 months and get an offer but without the pre-order goodies its the same $200-350

Throw in generous trade-in deals and it's likely there are no better way to own a flagship premium smart phone for less on true out of pocket costs for most

My phone xyz depreciates less is worth squat when you consider all costs on a like for like basis

Agreed those are all things to take into consideration. Also the most important thing to consider when buying a phone is if you think it’s worth the price at the point of purchase, not thinking about how much it will cost to re-sell down the line.

Yes given we are all enthusiasts here but with different budgets 🙂 it dulls the enjoyment factor projecting re-sale in x years time 🙁

BTW I see the Bixby button can be native remapped to a normal power button re press and hold

By chance I went to Regent street in London this morning and the MS Store they had demo units in stock 🙂

Screen and feel was great can't say I was impressed with the black and they had no other colours unfortunately

Genuine OEM parts are often more than some bargains as you note

But you will have trouble with many 3rd party screen protection with both curved screen and in screen fingerprint if you opt for cheap ones 🙂

I think the point is at least Samsung gives you something of added value. YMMV. Apple is still giving us an outdated 5w power adapter and a USB-A cable, even when more and more of their computers are going USB-C. Unless you buy a new cable you can't even charge your iPhone with a current Apple laptop.

If you look at it that way you could say the Apple lightning to USB-C cable is $19 but you can find one on Amazon for much less...

So i tried note plus, huge display, did not have a chance to test nonplus one, but unfortunately, i wont switch - cant stand pwm (probably), again after few moments i felt pain behind my eyes and forehead... but wow, how light that phone is, why iphones are so heavy, i cant get it...

I owned a S10 plus and the quality of that screen protector was among the worst I've ever used. It's great Samsung throws in things of added value but you were being pretty generous with monitory value you assigned to those things.

I fully agree that Apple is among the stingiest when it comes to giving away anything of value. Their whole business structure comes from instilling in their customers a belief that anything with an Apple logo slapped on it is of the highest quality and therefore you should pay a premium for it. Anything "given away" by them would undermine that philosophy.

And not to go off on a tangent, but phone cases are among the most overpriced phone accessory on the market. I've tried nearly all the big name cases manufacturers and have come to one conclusion...paying anything over $20 for a basic phone case is a waste of money. The one caveat there is that if you like special material cases such as leather or Pixel fabric cases for example, then you'll be paying more. But to pay more than $20 for a rubber/plastic/combo case is ludicrous. For every phone I get, my first purchase is a Ringke Fusion Smoke Black case. Great design, great protection, semi-transparent so the phone design isnt hidden but dark enough so every piece of hair or dust doesnt show, and less than $10.

Oh and when it comes to screen protectors, I have seen the need for one since the last few generations of gorilla glass. However, I've always kept one on any iPhone I've owned because despite what Apple tells you, they are easily the most scratch prone screens in the smartphone world.

This stuff seemed cool when they were pushing it, but alas, who wants to walk around/sit down with goggles strapped to their head!?

Again, Samsung has seen Apple was right and are now throwing their weight at AR, no accessories required.

I'm not surprised. Take a look at the comparison pics of the Note 10+, P30, and iPXS Max.

DisplayMate just gave it the highest mark as well. Then on top of that, the Note 10's UFS 3.0 storage is the fastest recorded as well. All in all, the Note 10 is a champ.

Oh I'm so sorry that nasty pwm flicker is keeping you from purchasing. I know how that feels. Yes I did notice there is flicker on the Note display under the store lights. Nobody else in my family can see/sense it. The flicker on the S10+/Note 10+ does make me feel a bit weird in the head and eyes, too, but I adjust after awhile. I have a computer monitor like this that makes my eyes water. I can use it but only for about 90 minutes at a time. It doesn't affect anyone else like that.

If it were just pwm, I could probably use an iPhone X/Max. But they do something in addition to pwm that overloads my nervous system.

By the way, do you find that you can see things other people apparently can not? Like shades of colors? Like maybe you look at a blue chair and everyone else sees one uniform shade of blue but you see several kinds of blue? Are you sensitive to really fine details? I am super nearsighted and need glasses. But sometimes the things I can see as long as my vision is corrected for the nearsightedness, well it's weird.

I remember everyone complaining about this when the new iPhones came out. Everyone blamed it on the OLED. Then people started to say it was happening to them with the XR. Now it's Samsung's turn. Are you saying that you won't switch from an iPhone with pwm to a Samsung with pwm because of the effects of pwm? Which phone do you have now?

It's not strictly speaking pwm on the iPhone. iPhone implements some other form of turning off and on the pixels in addition to pwm to reduce risk of burn in. That may also help reduce the black crush in videos that still plagues Samsung and Pixel phones.

As for what's ailing people on the Xr, who knows. LCDs are not immune from causing people eye strain, too. Some people think its not the display at all but Face ID.

The nasty thing about migraines is that what triggers mine may not trigger another person's. Both my husband and I are migraine sufferers. He can use an iPhone just fine and I can't. I can use VR goggles just fine for hours and he can't stand more than a few minutes. I can tolerate sound frequencies my husband can not and vice versa. It is a highly personalized way to suffer, unfortunately.

Okay before we veer totally off topic, I'm starting to wonder if I should go ahead with the Note order. The more I read about how they failed to upgrade the Note 10 cameras with the exciting new camera sensors they developed with Xiaomi, the more I wonder if I should wait. Or just go ahead and then upgrade again like a good little sheep later.

Wow, note 10 just got the highest dxomark rank. It amuses me a little as it uses the exact same sensors as my LG V50 ThinQ. Other thing that I know for sure is that LG's camera software is better. Dxomark.... Hmmmm

Sometimes it is deceiving. Look at the Pixels...they have average camera hardware but produce amazing pics.
Google has imho the best post processing in the business.
So it could be Samsung has some nice post processing going on.
Then to be honest the difference plus or minus 3 or 4 points will not be noticeable.

I am on iphone 7 - ips panel with no pwm. At home I have oled tv, again pwm free.. btw, pwm aint problem, low frequency is (typical for oled smartphones) - i believe that at work i have some cheap lg pc monitor so pwm for sure, but not at that low freq...
