Again, what is the point of this argument you keep persisting with?Did he CC that email to every buyer?

Did he CC that email to every buyer?
Agreed.Even after this PR debacle (and it's really more a PR debacle than anything else)
Agreed.
If you think putting a picture in the manual excuses one company but a widly publicized email from the CEO doesn't... I'll just have to disagree with you on that one.
Personally, I liked the press conference. I can see why he'd be ticked off he had to explain to people a "problem" that other phones also face. The demo with other phones was great as were the stats from ATT.
Luckily there is a very generours return policy. So hurry up people who aren't happy and feel like they were duped. You only have a few more days to get a refund.
Settle down. I'm just saying with all of the talk about his email not being sent to all buyers and people not knowing before they got the phone, they can return the phone and be back at square one if they want. If they feel deceived, they can fix the problem pretty easily by returning the phone. Luckily this came out early enough to where people have that option. It doesn't EXCUSE one company over another. What it does is indicates the difference between accountability and not. That coupled with Apple's "non issue" response pissed a lot of people off because it IS an issue. Doesn't matter if it's with all phones. Apple wanted to say it didn't. Or IMPLY that there was no issue.
As for the latter part of your comment. I know this might be hard for you to accept - but not everyone who has a complaint about how this was handled or who experiences a drop/loss in signal is going to return their phone. And there are a lot of reasons why. Maybe they are heavily invested in Apps and don't want to lose their investment. Or maybe all the benefits of the iPhone outweigh the negatives. But that doesn't mean these people can't discuss something they own and whether or not this feature of that feature works better or not.
The whole return it or shut up mentality is immature. It's also ignorant.

Of course most people won't return the thing. They'd rather just piss and moan about it. That's what most of MF is when new products are launched.
This is more of an issue if you want to bar watch 24/7. But ATT deserves some of that with their "more bars in more places" crap. Apple deserves a LOT of it. IIRC they changed the bar formulas before the recent change to show more. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the phone overall or more would be returned, it wouldn't take weeks to get one, and more calls would be being dropped.

I read some other post where you talked about being in PR. I see where you're coming from now. What I may see as a silly point is something that means much more in your line of work.
Well unless I misread online - there are currently 1 in 100 calls dropped with the 3GS. And the iPhone 4 drops more calls. Jobs didn't dare give a # - but he said less than 1 percent. Which could easily be .95. That means twice as many calls, no?
Thanks for your edit. Yes. My profession does have a lot to do with how I view the entire situation. I don't claim to have any or all the answers. I can only offer my experience and view.

But from 1% to 2%... I wouldn't care. I don't think it would be a deal breaker to me. Just my $0.02 though. I'd also be interested in how many of those calls wouldn't have even been made with a 3GS.
I'm also not trying to dismiss your profession. I think you caught what I meant with your comment about how you view the situation.
I was able to make the Captivate drop signal pretty easy.
Then it's defective, return it for a new one. Four of us at work got ours together & not one shows a drop in bars.
I have each of my primary smartphones on thier own dedicated lines. My iPhone 4 & Galaxy S (Captivate) are on their own dedicated lines with AT&T. My Droid X on it's own line with Verizon. How are you able to switch between Iphone 4 and Captivate when they use the different size sim?
It wasn't mine, it was the store model. So I just put it back on the shelf. lol
Came close to getting it, nice phone. How are you able to switch between Iphone 4 and Captivate when they use the different size sim?
this new galaxy S video shows just one finger

john gruber pointed it out on his site. he's been on a tear
who uses both hands on a phone while making a call? They are making it look worse not better.
Genuinely curious, what is the widespread issue? GPS?

Actually that's totally incorrect, it's not defective, it's the Captivate. After using the phone, seeing videos on YouTube and checking out various Android forums, the reception on this phone is less than stellar and it drops bars faster than the iPhone 4 when being held in the "wrong" spot.
