I was all set to upgrade to one from my Iphone 4 but was also quite impressed by the Note 2 that's coming out Sunday, at Best Buy at least.

It has amazing internals including a quad core processor. The screen is huge at 5.5". A lot of people won't like this. I thought I wouldn't but I was able to hold one and put it in my pocket and it fits perfect. Plus it's thinner compared to an Iphone and it's noticeable.

The Note 2 is about same thickness as an iPhone 4 and nowhere near (in phone terms) as thin as an iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5's A6 is at least as impressive as the Note 2's Exynos in CPU. And the iPhone 5's GPU is far more powerful. But you're right about the screen being huge on the Note 2 :)

"uninteresting" is just an opinion so that's fine.

but "buggy"? now it's your turn to get specific.
Both uninteresting & buggy are well covered here, in the many & at times repitious forum threads.

Here's just a few examples that are deal breakers for me. Some I knew about before preordering my iPhone 5 and ordered anyway.

- Narrow elongated display offering a very limited size increase.
- Sub standard anodized finish, came pre-scratched with several 20mm long, fingernail deep scratches.
- Less battery life than my 4S
- Missing Google Maps. Apple maps incomplete, misguided, and useless.
- and on and on ...

As a very loyal, 20 year Apple customer & enthusiast my preference is to make the purchase, use the product, and then I am well equipped to speak from personal experience not just heresay. In addition as a technologist and multi-platform enthusiast, I have a wide variety of new smartphones new tablets & new laptops at any given time. Therefore if one doesn't work out for me or meet my preferences it has no impact since it's always an "additional" unit.

"Useless"? There is actually no use for Apple's Maps?

I see your detailed expert experience with Apple products doesn't save us from gross hyperbole ;)

The Galaxy S3 is by all accounts an absolutely brilliant phone. There are a few factors (date released, shipped vs sold, impending release of iPhone 5 causing sales of 4s to drop), but let's not kid ourselves: Samsung is selling tons of a particular phone. This isn't just Samsung's flagship but all of Android's. As an iPhone 5 owner, I'm very jealous of a few Android features and I'm not sure if Apple will be able to keep me forever on this platform. Google Now looks like the future. Siri was the original assistant, but a truly great assistant per-empts your needs and presents you with information that you will probably want next. Absolutely a killer feature. Google's maps on Android is also the envy of the world. Google is so incredibly far ahead in Search and Services that the long term prospects don't look great for Apple. This stuff is a huge deal. Apple can't just continue to do their own stuff great. They have to hire Googly staff and become as good as Google at "Googly stuff". I don't know how you catch up to them, but Apple better try their best. iOS and iPhone/iPad win on aesthetics and user experience (IMHO) but Google's platform has a futuristic intelligence.

Apple has to be very honest with itself about where their pain points are. They also have to be steadfast on things they've done right. Microsoft's live tiles are better than Google's widgets. Apple should do a variant of that. Apple needs to start on a search engine, despite the fact that they are going to suck at it for a very long time. They need to brute force their way to feature parity with maps – a clever gimmick will never come close to Street View and all Google's data.

I love iOS and have picked it over Android every time so far, but leaving the platform would not be difficult and other hardware manufacturers will catch up to Apple in its fit and finish before Apple comes anywhere close to Google for services. We can be better Apple fans when we push them to be a better Apple, and there are many areas where the are far less capable than their competition.

Most reasonable post on this thread.

So why are you on an Apple forum?

In another news, BMWs are not made in China by underpaid labors.

So please, stop associating Apple with real premium brands because it's simply not.

This JOKE is getting old .. And innacurate too.

It's a shiny mass produced, made-in-China piece of electronic.

So what phone do you have? The iPhone may be made in China, but the build quality and software quality are better than Android phones. Everyone I know that has left iPhone for Android has come back to the iPhone.

Apple not a premium brand? It's the best constructed cell phone. And tell me what other cell phone people line up for overnight to purchase?

Go troll somewhere else!

Apple needs crisis to reborn. This is the perfect time for Apple to rethink their strategy. Their business model is too easy to be copied. They must try their best to retain their uniqueness otherwise Samsung etc. will eat their lunch.

When they sued HTC, Samsung was already growing super fast in Asia. They ignored that. They continue to pay huge money to Samsung. They released a phone with the same look after 18 months. They didn't introduce new features in iOS 6.

When the Note 2 was launched in my country, the line was so long that many just gave up. Nowadays I see more S3 than Ip5. I know of many that upgraded from Ip4s to S3/Note2 rather than ip5.

I am going to go out here on a limb and say that the GS3 is a very good phone, I know this because I came from one. Feels pretty good in the hand, screen is very nice (although a little too big for me pause) and its a fast phone.

With that being said, it is not as much as a complete phone as iPhone is, Android system is not as complete as iOS is. I can tell you that... I have had to pull out my battery 6-7 times in a span of 2 months because the screen would randomly go black and nothing would work even though the LED's are on. The message app would crash maybe 2-3 times a week on me (wtf?) and a few others. I think one of the reasons why so many people like Apple phones is because they just work and not to mention they are the best looking smartphones by far. Seriously nothing touches the sleek black iPhone 5, that **** just shines in the light

So you never complained about that or tried to get a swap unit? I've personally yet to receive a "random black screen" (I figured I really touched the DisplayLock button by accident and basic Display Timeout is set to 15 seconds with FaceDetection on, but if you're in ba light conditions the front camera doesn't recognize your face).

A crashing message app - never had or heard of that. Maybe that carrier of yours messed around with the firmware too much?

Apple's free ride in smartphone domination is nearly over. I predict they will be down to 50% of mobile industry profits in 1 year. 30% in 3 years.

It's difficult for Apple to think of being in a "crisis" sitting on $124 billion in cash. They are sitting very pretty from a financial standpoint while the technological rug they stand on is being pulled out from under their feet by the entire industry. The idea that iOS is the "most advanced mobile OS" is laughable.

I can picture these exact same comments being said in the next commercial where everyone's waiting in line for their new iPhone.

If all of this Samsumg stuff is true then why such a aggressive marketing campaign against Apple and its customers? Ideal situation for Samsung healthy market share with a balance of profits to match. We all know that apple takes most of the profits in the mobile industry. So what is Apple doing that gets under Samsung skin. Ther has to be something more.

The Samsung S4 is going to be the nail in the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s coffin. Yup, no screen size difference; just a minor spec jump. Maybe they can sale fruity colors like Nintendo.

thats just a silly statement. There is no nail in the coffin for either side. Both companies make great products end of story.

I always wondered why didn't apple add a variety of colors for iphone? I would have liked a plum colored iPhone.

I don't know why this is so important to people. Lines, numbers, etc.

Lines mean squat. An initial burst in demand. That's bad. It's hard to plan production capacity around bursts and then leveling off. Ramp up tons of production only to then slow it down ? That's hard on the supply chain. A steady flow of demand is much better.

In the end, a burst followed by slower demand or a steady demand over an entire 3 month period ends up at the same result : X units for the quarter, X revenue for those units sold, X profit depending on margin.

Waiting lines are for corporate bragging rights and frankly an annoyance to customers.

That would multiply the SKUs and probably harm offer as they wouldn't know how many of each to produce. They could end up with overstock of a certain color, understock of another, and it could result in lower unit sales, thus less revenue and profit for a quarter. Might as well keep it simple and easy to manage, especially for the product that's close to 50% of your revenue.

Apple right now is overly dependant on iPhone sales. If the iPhone crashes suddenly, Apple is going to take a huge hit. It's kind of their basket, holding all their eggs right now and that's not really a good position to be in.

I've noticed this for some time, and I don't think they planned it that way. They've just been riding on it, because the growth is there. They could spend more time concentrating on weaker points in their lineup, but no other area has shown that level of growth. I laugh when people on here compare them to driving a BMW. The iphone is an extremely mass market item. The concern should be the potential for boredom from a fickle customer base, especially if prepaid plans continue to gain popularity. The other thing I wonder is how dependent they are on the portion of users that upgrades constantly.

Exactly how I feel! I tried Android, it's not that bad, but it's no iOS. Let's hope Apple keeps innovating new stuff.

Well there isn't exactly much to IOS. Apple is simplistic and it works for them, anyone looking for more out of their devices or simply to customize them to their taste and needs, must look elsewhere.

On a side note, I must say, whenever I see someone holding a S G III, it does catch my eye.
