They do. However, I prefer more natural colors and saturation as the default, so I think the S20 remains a good choice for me. But it's good to know if I lose my mind and flip for the Flip at the last minute, that the camera won't feel like a compromise to me. They made sensible choices for this phone.

One thing I did notice from Flossy's remarks is that stereo audio for watching movies on the Flip might be missing. I need to look into that.

I absolutely love the audio from my Note and my 11 Pro when I'm watching shows on either of them.

Drop Test

Wow, that is much better than I expected. If you don't have time to read the article, basically the Flip endured outer glass damage on a short 3 foot drop to the street while closed. In 2 more drops meant to simulate fumbling it open and a plain 5 ft drop, there was no damage to the display or the hinge. A Motorola Razr subjected to the same test was a hot mess.

So Samsung did a nice job here. You're going to want to use their clear case on it. It's not going to survive like a regular old time flip phone would. Sucker is made of glass. If they ever decide to make these things out of a carbon fiber shell or something like that, it's going to be so rugged! I would throw my money at them in a pile if they did that. I don't need wireless charging as much as I need rugged. Because I'm a klutz. 🤕

The Fold other than not using Flexi Glass is already same/superior to the Flip so what else can it learn other than the hinge brushes and it only snaps back after ~120 deg and a hole punch selfie cam ? 🙂

With the Flexi Glass an S-pen maybe possible but the Fold 2 is more likely to have parts from the S20's camera/chips/5G etc than the Z-Flip other than Flexi Glass upgrade

I think the Fold 2 could be a little wider and a bit thinner allowing same or bigger battery but more importantly front screen improvements or even screens as there is a lot of space there

I certainly do not want the Fold 2 folding horizontally not only would it make it not pocket-able but with the vertical fold as now, your finger rarely touches the crease

Perhaps a Tab 7 that folds with LTE but not for me rather go MS Neo/Duo

Making a layman's guess: The definition of glass is kind of flexible, so to speak. If they've got enough silicates to qualify it as glass, they can mix it with flexible polymers and still legit call it bendable glass. I'm thinking plastic doesn't have any silicates of any kind.

Right?!! This is such a big nothing burger. People are trying to blow it up into a scandal, but it just shows they don’t have even a basic inkling of understanding what flexible glass is and what is required to make it work well and look good and feel “premium” in this context.

Do people think regular glass can miraculously be this flexible without trading some hardness away? Do people even bother to take five minutes to do basic research to see modern glass exists on a continuum between glass and plastic?

I have only a basic high school education regarding geology and the associated required basic study of crystalline structures. And even I can understand (and remember after more than 35 years) enough to know this isn’t going to be like the glass on my iPhone.

Oh God.
Put me in the camp of not having any interest or desire for this product until a boring Saturday afternoon yesterday saw me watching every YT video of it since launch... And now I have to have it. 😀

The one thing I don't like is the colours. Black, boring. Purple, looks pink. Gold - not even available anywhere and is awful.

Where's the grey from the S20?! Would have looked sweet.

Anyway, I want it.

I'm a 'details' kinda guy and this current trend of slabs of glass with incremental upgrades is getting a little monotonous for me now.
Having something different like the Fold is good for tech enthusiasts IMO, apart from the ones who are all about specs.

Of course, on paper it would be silly to buy. Compare it's specs to the S20 Ultra and see that it's fairer powered yet more expensive and try and justify it. Lol.

But look at the thing. It's huge innovation. And it's still so capable when compared to the likes of the RAZR.

Last night I added it to my basket on the Currys website as I had no idea of stock issues (or Samsung's low shipments) and I went to get a drink, came back and it was sold out. 😀

I can't justify purchasing it. At all.
But it is so damn cool I may have to find a way haha.

Oh good lord, I can see this subject is going to get really stupid for awhile. Unless people who are actually planning to buy this phone, or are truly interested in it, or have bought it have something to say about it besides going on about JerryRigEverything. Zach also snapped Pixel phones in half. I still enjoyed the phone for almost two years now because I put it in a case and didn’t try to bend it in half. Jeezus. Don’t take a metal pick and try to scratch the 🤬 screen you 🤬 🤬 and instead worry about the ways it would or could break in normal use.

Since I have no plans to buy this phone I’ll show myself out because I am about to🤬🤯😤

That’s a stretch. Kind of like saying my car tyres are made of metal because they have steel bands in them. Whichever way you cut it (pun intended) this screen is just as likely to get scratched or punctured as a plastic screen.

The tech websites should know better trying to push this false narrative that Samsung lied about using glass/UTG. The information is clearly there for them to read.

As far as the posters on forums go, It's funny that the most vocal/bitter, are always the ones who have no actual interest in buying the device. Just here to spread FUD, and discourage others from buying a device from an OEM they themselves don't like. 🙄

Agreed. Someone people are just so negative it’s annoying.

We have snazzy Q on Twitter as soon as he got the phone he was moaning about how terrible the crease was and how it made the phone unusable and then surprise surprise he fiddled able with the phone and kept pressing it and got a tiny sound when it was pressed. Then claimed that it was broken in less than a day and therefore proved that it was a piece of crap.

Maybe these people have no interest in buying the device because they have no interest in buying a smart phone whose screen is likely to be damaged by fingernails in the work of a moment? Share your opinion all you like, but don't state them like they're facts. Samsung said they're using UTG. Do you have proof they're not? You most definitely don't, but here you are jumping on the first video that doesn't even go beyond poking at a screen. UTG that folds has never been used in a device anywhere. Expecting folding UTG to be as hard as thicker glass is ridiculous. Samsung said they have a protective layer coating the UTG. What's so hard to understand about that? People that have used the Galaxy Fold and the Z Flip, have said the Z Flip's screen feels better. So the UTG obviously makes a positive difference in feel, when tapping the screen. But just in case you still want to spread FUD, here's a video that goes beyond poking at a screen...
