Have we seen any videos yet of someone putting the phone in their pocket, taking it out and it being bent? Obviously if it's happening we'll hear about people returning bent phones to Apple stores. Has that been happening?

Uri Geller can warp forks with his look.

I love Apple products too. I had the first iPhone, then the 3GS, then the 4s and now I have a 5s. My immediate household has 5 macs (one on loan to my mom), 3iPads, 2 Apple TVs, 3 Airport Expresses and a Time Capsule.

No one can accuse me of not being an Apple fan.

This iPhone 6+ bending thing plus the camera algorithm issue plus the release of the buggy 8.0.1 update - I mean, Apple just laid a giant egg over the past few days. Apple is deserving every bit of the ridicule they are getting over the interwebs.

Laid a giant egg.

Ive owned;

iPhone: 3G, 3Gs, 4, 4s, 5, 5s and now iPhone 6.
iPad: iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Mini, and nowiPad Mini Retina
iMac: 2012
MacBook Pro: 2011, 2012 Retina 15", now 2013 Retina 13"
MacBook Air: 2013 13"

While I'm not too concerned about the "bendgate" I was extremely annoyed and frustrated with iOS 8.0.1 as I installed it and it hosed my phone. I had to spend several hours getting iOS 8 back on with all my music and such.

While the bendgate is a major factor and should be addressed some how, its the lesser of my concerns with Apple at the moment and I would NEVER come out and say APPLE IS NOT WRONG! That's just idiotic.

Mac vs PC ads last ran in 2009. Outside of jabs here and there during keynotes I can't think of an ad Apple has run under Tim Cook on the internet or TV that specifically poked fun at a competitor. Do you have an example?

Why does that matter? Competitors can run adds poking fun at Apple only in retaliation? Apple ran their adds poking fun at Windows computers and those adds were not in retaliation.

Now let's say it's made totally unbendable. You put the phone into your front pocket and get into your car. Unfortunately, you have an accident. That unbendable phone in your front pocket isn't going to do your body any good.

So you are using this to justifying iPhone bending? So if I were to kill someone or blow up few places, could I justifying my actions for sloving over population and save the earth?

Most people put phone in their pocket, most likely their pants. How much of impact will your phone absorbing during the impact? Your airbag pops out, your sit belt saves you. It is not your phone that is bendable saves your life

This whole bent iPhone 6+ fake controversy is absurd. I have the iPhone 6+ and it is awesome. Does it flex? Sure, but so does my BMW 5 Series. If one watches the "scientific" videos, the phone will bend under an absurd amount of pressure at the weakest point of the phone. Just like you can damage my BMW 5 Series if you apply an absurd amount of pressure at critical points on the door and most of the interior controls. I keep my iPhone 6+ in my front left pocket routinely and there have been no issues. Just to see how much my phone would flex, I applied pressure to it. It flexed but it did not deform permanently. I applied substantial pressure to it. The iPhone is awesome and it is expensive. I would never think of not treating it thoughtfully. The iPhone 6+, like my BMW 5 Series, will break if misused or intentionally abused. Under normal use for 6 days the phone has been awesome and exceeded my expectations.

I've having the same experience!:apple:

But IT works because users are retarded, see comments there... Every year there will be s "gate"

Bootygate. Can't wait for that one next year."They made the iPhone TOO hard now! I can't permanent dents!".

But Apple is Scrutinized much more then any other company in the world! If this was a Samsung phone, or any other manufacturer this would never even be an issue!

I'm not sure I would say it wouldn't even be an issue. Social media is a pretty strong component these days even for those not looking to be targeted. At the end of it, even Samsung would be scrutinized and likely just as harshly on this board by the same posters.

It will never matter what Apple makes, people are always going to try and take them down! They do great things and a lot of people can not stand their great success! So any little flaw will be exploited and used against them, even when it's not a real problem, it will be made to look like one.

I don't people care about their success and form hate over that. Users and even other companies have some high expectations of companies and brands with the cache Apple has. That's a compliment too. At the end of the day, Apple put themselves up top, and it's up to them to not to expose themselves even over little issues. Two self inflicted strikes in one week is more than the competition has been able to inflict on them lately. Regardless of the impact, it hurts. I put a very small scratch on my new car one time and even though it wasn't much and no one noticed it, I always did.

My question is, how would these other company's handle the constant scrutiny Apple is under?

the answer is before you as they go through it everyday. just reading this board proves that. what apple maps, bendgate, antenna gate, iOS 8.0.1 and all the other issues, that happen along the way show is Apple is just like those other guys....they handle the scrutiny every day too. They are a great brand but they aren't perfect and play in the same pool as the others.

Or it's bad engineering. Like the original Tacoma Narrows.

In all fairness, this is what Apple gets for designing such a thin phone made of soft metal.

While its competitors are not faultless, the fact remains Apple continually likes to place itself as a premium device (and in years past they've lived up that). Premium products should not bend when placed in pockets.

ipad minis bend in pockets too, why isn't anyone complaining about that?

phablets aren't small phones and shouldn't be expected to be able to recklessly pocket them as such. I'm sure apple will make them more durable over time, but I like them as is, rather than fatter and heavier and more durable. reckless ogres is why we can't have nice things.

It bends when you've got it in your front pocket, due to its size and thinness...This 'bendgate' wasn't anywhere near as much of a problem with the earlier iPhone models.

That's true, but earlier iPhone models were a lot smaller than the 6+.

OTOH, this is the result of Apple's needless obsession with making everything as thin as possible. Like many others on this forum, I'd gladly accept a slightly thicker phone with longer battery life and less susceptibility to damage.

There are many questions.
How the story on bendgate was prepared for feed to press; how the journalist FOUND about 1 bent phone; why without ANY proof simultaneously many news sites are INSISTING that the phone was broken WITHOUT any documented proof and that ALL plus models BEND? Who paid for headlines? Who paid for story placement? the news dissemination? It costs a lot, you know. The original website to spread the falsification without proof? Did it have any sponsorship deals with Samsung (on eve of launch their criticized but last hope Note 4?) or Google? Was the origin a trusted source?

Journalists? It's 21-st century. News are not spread in newspapers anymore.

The hashtag is the new newsroom.

The world is a ridiculous place

where businesses act like 4th graders.

I'm split. I think it's a matter of interpretation. I think it's funny that these companies are taking advantage of this situation in a fun way. The tweets are classy, not lame like most of Samsung's anti-Apple ads. Although I disagree with using the #bendgate hashtag. That's childish.

When I saw those mockups I wondered how something so big and so thin could be made not to bend. Is this the real reason sapphire wasn't used, because it would crack if the chassis bent?

I love how many people on here use throw out sales figures as a defense. Apple sold 10 jillion iphones in one day lololol. As if that is some sort of metric with which to measure a phones quality. Walmart has a couple trillion visitors daily too...does that mean Walmart product is all high quality?

P.s. I mostly love Apple products, but lately they have really been letting me down.

Read what you are saying please.

Cell phones from the beginning have been kept in pockets, this isn't a new concept and Apple should have been prepared for real world use. Falling back to the legendary "You're holding it wrong" excuse is absurd and ridiculous.

You are 100% correct. Except there were not this large and thin and no one ever said that was the way they were supposed to be carried. In fact most came with a holster/belt-clip. Times change and devices change. Pretty sure the first models never went into anyone pockets. Those things were giant! So saying "well I always carried my Moto Razr in my pocket why cant I carry a small computer in there" doesn't make any since.

Absolutely. I love the iPhone - no doubt I'll even end up buying an iPhone 6 - but it's hard to argue Apple has been designing for the real world. Phones with glass cases with a tendency to shatter on impact. Thinner phones with less structural integrity which can't be safely kept in your pockets without bending. The priority seems to be form over function.

Tell people to adapt how they use their phones to adapt to Apple's design is the wrong way around. Given how much Apple promote their engineering & materials work, this is potentially a big own-goal.
