Trust me, I've considered the alternatives and still don't think it's the end of the world to have to press the home button.
Ok that's you. You're not everyone. Stop being full of yourself. You could always turn off the feature.

I've never understood the request for LED notifications. I get why some people want it, so I'm not knocking it, but I personally don't want to have to learn and keep track of color or blink codes when I could just wake the screen up.
Yea that's what I mean, it seems like such a low fidelity notification system. They maybe made sense back in the day when all your notifications could be sms, call or email. Nowadays with so much different apps can give you a notifications this seems rather stupid.
Is that UK good manners you're observing, or your personal good manners? Where I live in the US, east coast mid-Atlantic region, everyone seems to always have their smart phones out and checking them, whether at meetings or dinner or social events. I don't see people doing that as much down south, so even in the US smart phone etiquette might vary by region. West coast manners seemed the same as my area, but I'm never there long enough to be certain.I don't have my phone out at meetings/dinner/etc as it is very rude.
It is in my pocket on silent in such a situation.
When at home my phone is on bedside or next to my pc while im using it face up so the coloured led is visable.
I never put phone face down as it will mark the face, unless it is on the bed or soft furnishing.
I have an armoured case for my s7 edge and the case has cut out for rear red light which is used for heart rate but case obscures it a little so heart rate not always detected.
So even with cut out it may not be always visible.
- Turns yellow when low battery mode is on
Wow, Samsung actually invented something! Though it's kind of a lame take on an existing concept in an era of rich notifications and smart watches. But I hope Apple rips it off just to screw with them!
HOW DOES IT FEEL, Samsung? HOW. DOES. IT. FEEL.
I don't know about you guys, but it's rare when I check my phone and don't have some kind of notification between iMessages, Email, Twitter, Instagram, Breaking News, ESPN, Calendar, Deliveries, Mint, Trello, Weather Underground, and shared photo streams in the Photos app. So I just know to check my notifications. And iOS 10 will make it even easier. A glowing ring would just drain extra battery life for me as it would always be glowing multiple colors, and there aren't enough colors to flag every app. Might as well install a rainbow glowing Apple logo on my 6s, haha. Actually that would be kinda cool!
It's hard for some people to conceive the notion, let alone admit, that others 'occasionally' are the first to come up with good ideas as wellLol, nevermind then! I guess NOBODY would benefit from being able to see at a glance whether they have a missed call or unread text without touching their phone, or lighting up the screen, because you currently press the home button (umm... btw, that's currently the ONLY option, so we probably didn't need for you to mention that).
Seriously, why can't some people get over themselves????!
Well, not so much in the mobile space, which is the unit I hate on them for constantly as they unabashedly steal IP from other companies. I have no problem stating that I have a hate and bias towards Samsung's mobile unit. They deserve it! Love their EVO SSDs, and their displays. And from what I can tell, they make decent dishwashers. What sort of innovations have they offered in mobile? TouchWiz?? LOL. Most bloatware? Sure. Their mobile success is riding on the back of Android and Apple. Without them, they would be nothing. They are a worthless, corrupt unit that should be shut down.Ummm Samsung invents lots of things. Your hate and bias is clear.

If you check my comment, I said their displays were good. I doubt their mobile unit comes up with the display tech. That's what their display unit does. Their mobile unit just pieces together the good work of their other units, slaps a s***ty UI on it, steals the industrial design of whatever company's phone is popular, and shoves it out the door.Their displays for one. Samsung pay is actually more versatile than Apple Pay right now. Their chip fabrication. But whatever - doesn't matter what I type to you. I just find it funny that you can say with a straight face that Samsung doesn't invent anything.

I don't know, man. The UI for the camera, Samsung Pay, and long screenshots are pretty nice. It just sounds like unnecessary hate for Samsung from you.If you check my comment, I said their displays were good. I doubt their mobile unit comes up with the display tech. Perhaps you're missing the point.....I just press the home button and I can see what messages I missed...
I always thought the iPhone could use something like this around the home button (replacing thin metal ring) green for iMessage, red for missed calls.. But now I have an Apple watch so whatevs!
OMG I used to have a Nokia that did that.... thought it was cool until I went to a movie and lit up my pockets like a flood light. They copied this Nokia I used to have (and obviously miss sometimes).

… I think there is also a patent using "paper ink" (I think that is what is is called) on the back of the device. …
You know what? Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure my old Rokr E1 (the first phone with iTunes) had a color change LED for notifications on the sides like that. So basically Samsung is copying Motorola/Apple from 2005, lol. Cool 10 year old idea you're patenting there guys! They copied this Nokia I used to have (and obviously miss sometimes).
I do like they way they repackage the technology. If anything Samsung is the best at reproducing other company's technology.
