I like my 7+, don't love it, but like it a lot. Still it's VERY hard to see pics of these upcoming small bezel phones and realize how embarrassing the 7+ is next to them. Apple must even be embarrassed of phones released 1-2 years ago with smaller bezels. But most likely when the iPhone 8 is released with small bezels, I'll be going for that. I have more faith in Apple in how they handle my privacy than google by far. I'm also sick and tired of reading about the next google OS update, but knowing I won't have it for 8-12 months, F that. I have learned to live with a less functional, primitive OS such as iOS, but at least it gets the job done.
Ah, the bezels on my 7 Plus aren't noticeable most of the time because I got matte black and it's one slick slab of obsidian when it's off. The jet black is even more so. When it's on, I'm too busy using it to notice how outdated its large bezel look is. I'm really pleased with the look of it.
I'm sure I'll like the look of the next batch of iPhones. I'm also sure I won't feel compelled to spend over a thousand dollars to get one with the specs I'd want so soon after getting an expensive iPhone I'm so content with. This, like my iPhone 4 was for two blissful years was, is my "Goldilocks it's just right" phone. I had this feeling about the first car I bought and ended up staying with it as my only car for 24 years! I still have it and drive it to keep it operating but it's starting to slowly get that old dying car sound.
The reason I've got three Androids and am willing to dabble in more is that I haven't found the Android I'm willing to settle down with for more than a year, yet. I'll have fun trying out the ones I can afford until I find both a manufacturer I like and a line of devices to favor.
I know technology keeps moving forward but I'm not necessarily a "must upgrade yearly" person. I did so because I wasn't satisfied with some aspects of my iPhones...mainly the camera and fragility. Now I have one I'd like to keep two years.
As for OSes, I'm happy with Marshmallow and haven't moved to Nougat on anything except my HTC 10 yet. So I'll be okay with Nougat for 2 years if I can still get security patches. I'm hoping to go to a two year upgrade cycle. If I can move to three like I used to do with iPads, that would be great.
I don't plan to always run two phones and two OSes though. When my husband retires we will have a kid entering college and I hope to pare it down to one smart phone on a two year minimum upgrade cycle again.
So for awhile yet I'm going to compare Android to Apple. By the time my husband retires, who knows, Windows might be back into phones!
