Depends on how much charge it has out of the box. Regardless, with the fast charger, you could probably charge it fully within an hour or less. If you can’t wait, you could always plug it in while you set it up.

Samsung phones usually come about 50% charged out of the box (one way to tell if you got a new one). You can use it right away but it's good practice to go through a few initial full discharge to shutoff then 100% recharge cycles.

Back in the day, you had to charge immediately, as the OEMs generally shipped the phones with the battery dead. Hence you were told to 1st fully charge before using.
Today its different with the batteries, as they are normally shipped with x amount of battery charge, so you can use straight away. I would suggest that if the battery has any charge in it, that you 1st use it until it drops to around 10 to 15% or even completely dead. Then fully charge to 100%.

How important is the dual cam and the stylus for you, these are the things you will be missing.

This video (use close captioning) shows how the iphone 8 plus may be milliseconds to seconds faster loading games than the note 8 while the Note 8 kills the iphone 8 plus in terms of ram management. The note 8 was able to hold all of the games in the ram which was really impressive while the iphone 8 plus had to constantly reload.
The Note 8 is a multitasking beast. I prefer good ram management over a game loading faster since that is required in the real world. For those who said iphone didnt have a ram problem and that they dont need more ram, this doesn't look too pleasing. Expect these same type of results or worse with the iPhone X since it has the same 3 gb ram and uses additional ram to run Face ID.

I honestly think along with the 6GB RAM, the improved software of Samsung Experience v8.5, makes a big difference. Samsung's software has just been getting better and better ever since they got a software guy to head the mobile division a few years back. And it's only gonna get better now that they found their groove for hardware and software.

Is this the case today, with full discharge cycles? Laptops batteries (the same tech) recommend that you don't discharge fully. It is harder on the battery. Memory isn't supposed to be a problem with today's battery tech, either.
Samsung leads the industry, since the note 7 disaster, in battery tech. They state they test every battery, so your battery should be good to go. They also state that the battery should only degrade 5% of it's original full capacity, over two years. If that holds true, that will be impressive.

The dual camera is pretty important because I love portrait mode on the iPhone 7+.
The stylus, not so important but it could be one of those things I end up using quite a bit.
If you make yourself use the stylus, specifically when it comes to work/productivity; you will love it.
Otherwise, it's a nice extra feature.

Yeah it’s going to be an interesting October for sure. I’ve decided that I’m going to wait until the iPhone X and Pixel XL 2 are also released and then make my decision choosing 1 of all 3.

Yeah but I know it does have a built in blur feature. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the control you have on the Note
Since using the Note 8 yesterday I am typeless for accolades cause I would be afraid to understate the quality of this smartphone. This puppy is that good.

I've tried this feature when i had the Pixel, it's not even worth mentioning....
So I've had the Note 8 for about a week. I truly do love the phone - it has one heck of a display as I have went on and on about, but I think I am going to return it, and go back to my 7 plus for a couple of reasons. Well back to my husband's shattered 7 plus since he got my perfect one when I got the Note. I won't be an Indian Giver.😛 It's not even iMessage causing it believe it or not.
I just learned last night that the Note 8 isn't apart of Verizon's annual upgrade which is beyond stupid. Also, because the phone may be a little too big/heavy for my hands. After using it for a week my hands actually hurt some (I'm 4'11'' for reference). Or course it could be the way I'm holding it. I knew the phone was big going in though.
I don't know where to go from here so I'll stick with the cracked phone for a while. 😱I am seriously torn because I've been loving Android but at the same time I love iOS. So since I can't decide I'm just going to keep what I have for now I think. And wait a while. This is so ridiculous of me, it is just a freaking phone and I can't decide.

For me, the dual camera is only useful for portrait mode (live photos). Sammy's implementation is better than Apple's here. Otherwise, the second zooming lens doesn't suck so much as it's just not as good as the main shooter. But it does kinda suck (same is true on Apple's 7 Plus). I've said this before: LG's implementation of the dual lens is the best on the market. Other than that instance, I think the dual lens craze is stupid and hasn't really added much to the photo taking experience on these devices. Especially when you consider the Pixel is probably still the heavyweight champion smartphone camera as of late 2017.

Join the club, we are all a bunch of "undeciders", lol. Welcome to the moaning, hand wringing, and caterwauling that is inherent in our calamities of trying to choose which smartphone to use.
I do find it interesting that you feel the 7+ is smaller, as I feel the same way, although they are pretty close in size. I'm not sure what it was, but something about the N8 just felt larger, I think it was how unwieldy it was due to being so tall, kind of like it had no footprint to sit solidly in my hand but rather felt like it was teeter tottering in the vertical plane. Not sure if that makes sense or not. And I have fairly large hands, I could see how that might be more pronounced in your hands. My wife is very petite and she didn't like it at all, but she didn't like the Note 7 either and is more of a non plus iPhone person.
The second lens is pretty good IMO. I've taken great shots with 2X optical, that digital optical would've had noise. I would say the only major difference is the aperture.
