Probably, they will announce it at CES 2023. In relation to higher capacities, it will depend on how well the 4TB model sells. If successful, they will release 8TB as well… In any case, it seems that 2023 will be an interesting year for new Samsung Portable SSD models. Higher capacities and probably faster as well…

All I want is a 4TB T7, is that asking for too much? ;) I don't need fancy fingerprint security nor blazing fast TB3 speeds. I just love the T7 form factor and build. 2TB simply won't be enough space for me within the next 9 months or so, I reckon.
This WD model also has a nice form factor and comes in 4TB capacity:

I'm hoping they are going to release an 8TB model.

Title says something about a USB drive but article says only a small mention. The 8TB drive in the article is a PCIE 5.0 drive.

I feel only a fool would buy any portable unless it's as DIY setup in the tread Thunderbolt 3 NVME Enclosures to find the quickest externals one can make!
Do enclosures have a limit in terms of what capacity of SSD they support?

If I buy an 8tb internal ssd, will it be supported by enclosures or cables?

The Samsung T3, T5 and T7 are all USB attached SSDs, the X5 is the Thunderbolt version of the T5 that is a lot more expensive. Why would Samsung make the T9 more expensive with Thunderbolt? They'd be leaving a large market segment to other manufacturers. Or can Thunderbolt now be done cheaply?

It looks like the source of the Thunderbolt 4 spec is winfuture.de, but they’re only inferring that based on the 2000MBps speed. I suspect it’s USB4, which offers a lot of the benefits of Thunderbolt while being backward compatible with older USB protocols.

It seems USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, generation 2 (20 billion bytes/s), backward compatible, as shown here (German):

And in particular here (English):

That’s a shame — I don’t believe any Mac supports the 2x2 aspect of that spec, which will limit max throughput to 10 billion bytes/s.

These Samsung SSDs are some of the best I have used. I have tried DIY solutions, with 4TB and 8TB drives. I deal with VERY LARGE files so my DIY solutions always end up dropping to almost HDD speeds about 20% into the transfer. I am quite disappointed. While I only get 1,000 MB/s on the Samsung I currently have, it maintains that speed through my transfer, not dropping to 200 MB/s.

Of course Macs don’t actually support USB 3.2 2x2 so these won’t likely be any faster than T7 drives.

Even though Macs won't be able to benefit from the improved transport speed, I'm curious to see if reviews highlight any other improvements (e.g., temperature, improved write performance, etc.)

the biggest benefit of those new drives is, that at least i personally have not seen anything larger than 2TB in the wild on their predecessors
