I hear what you're saying about the driver from Samsung, but just got off the phone with Apple and this worked:

In system pref>printer & faxes> on the left side, you should have a list of printers. You need to right click in the white box and reset printing system. This deletes all the printers. Then add the printer. It worked like a champ after that.

Hope that helps!

you just made my day! thanks!

I have a Samsung CLP-510. I Reset the Printing System, uninstalled and re-installed the old Leopard Drivers. Then re-added the printer. It gives me the correct driver, but won't print. I get an error "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance." So I look further and pull the log (which is below). I ran Repair Permissions, but that didn't help. Any one know how I can fix the file permissions below? I don't want to have to buy a new printer. Thanks.

E 30/Aug/2009:01:38:17 -0500 Filter "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertosplcp" for printer "Samsung_CLP_510" has insecure permissions (0100777)

Could anyone help?
I have an HP PSC 1350 All-in-One printer which Snow Leopard doesn't recognize. It worked with Leopard.

Thanks so much for doing the leg work. That was the perfect fix for me!

I have a Samsung ML-3051N. No 10.6 driver is available that I can find. I did some research and the current model is a ML-3174 a slight increase in print speed but everything spec wise seems the same, look are even the same, they just added a duplex printing. The ML-3174 does have a 10.6 driver available so I downloaded the installer, deleted and reinstalled my printed selecting the ML- 3174 driver, seem to work well with my ML-3051N. Remember to select the correct amount of ram under the driver options menu. After the new driver install it defaulted to 32MB, I changed it to 64MB to match. Seems to work great, even gave me my low toner warning icon.

Hi Matt & all,

Thought you might like to know this ...

Never let it be said that Samsung don't respond.

I just received a response from their support with a link to the ML-2510 download page (well the Australian one at least), and behold they've released 10.6 drivers :)

I've got the same problem as discussed here with a Samsung CLP-510 in Snow Leopard. I've got the new drivers... but how the heck do I actually get the OS to see the printer or install it? Grr.

This is what I did with my CLP-510. It worked for me. Hope it's helpful.

1. Turn CLP-510 off
2. Unplug from computer
3. Open Printer/Fax Preference pane
4. Delete the old reference to the CLP-510
5. Right click in white box on the left, and "Reset Printing System"
6. If you have tried installing the OLD 10.5 CLP-510 drivers on 10.6, run the app again, but use it to uninstall the old drivers.
7. Reboot
8. Install new 10.6 Samsung drivers
9. Turn on CLP-510
10. Plug in CLP-510 to computer

I'd like to add my name to everyone else's here in thanking you for this thread and sharing your fix, mattwolfmatt.

Was just banging my head for half an hour trying to figure out why my ML-2510 wasn't working. Used your fix and worked like a charm.

Damn you Apple, "It just works" my ass.

My friend with an HP actually had to dig around for his original installation CD (which he's never had to use before) and install the drivers for his printer off that because of Snow Leopard. Hard to believe this is the latest and greatest most advanced...Mac...OS.

If you are still having problems....

Try this...

In the terminal type

ls -l /usr/libexec/cups/filter/

All the files in this folder should be owned by root. You may well see one in there that is owned by your user account instead. In my instance the fierycupsfilter was incorrectly owned which was the cause of my problem. This command fixed it
sudo chown root:wheel /usr/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter

I actually have a OKI 9800 not a Samsung so it appears that it's more of a Snow Leopard problem than a driver problem.

If you don't know what any of this means, then I implore you to ignore this email.

wow I'm bummed about this. They support a whole list of samsung printers except mine. I have the same one as you. This, after Leopard didn't support my Canon Lide scanner...what gives? Apple needs to stop the "It just works" thing. It just doesn't work.

OT but my LIDE 30 worked perfectly in Leopard...

For Canon ColorPass (and other networked?) printers

We have a ColorPass z4000e server running a CLC-1110.

Snow Leopard broke the ability to use the default Canon PPD (ColorPASS-Z400e), resulting in the, now infamous, "printer software was installed incorrectly" error...

Using the 'lpstat' command:

~ $ lpstat -t

Yielded this result:

Filter "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter" for printer "ColorPass" not owned by root

Ahhhh... A permissions error, of course (it was owned by the IT admin account and worked in Leopard). So...

:~ root# chown -R root:wheel /usr/libexec/cups/filter/
Problem solved... All printer preferences come up, and prints fine...

Just throwing it out there, because I was pulling my F*ing hair out trying to figure out WTF was going on...

Okay, I HAVE installed the driver from the australian samsung website...and I have reset the print system...but when adding a new printer how do I get the system preferences for printers to USE the driver I installed...it still wants to use the generic "Samsung ML-1740" which does not work!

Any chance the new drivers allow manual duplex printing for the ml-2510. Or are there alternative drivers that allow manual duplex. Let me know if anyone has had success, or what you do as an alternative if you want to print dual sided easily.

My Samsung ML-1210 won't print with 10.6

Since installing Snow Leopard on my MacBook my Samsung ML-1210 printer won't work. I have Rosetta installed, I've tried downloading and reinstalling the Samsung driver, I've tried the generic postscript option. Nothing works. Had I known I would have avoided Snow Leopard completely.
