I really do hope they make a bigger model, 14 or 16 inch. Still on my 2017 Pro 12.9 and its working just fine, its just that Firefox tends to kill itself a lot on it. But it does just about everything you would expect from an iPad where consumption is concerned.

I am happy with my M1 until a bigger upgrade like an OLED and new chips. The M2 and hover is cool but didn't justify buying a new iPad

iPads really aren’t meant to be upgraded every release cycle. If you have an M1 Pro you’re good for a few years, but if you’re coming off of an A12X/Z model then the upgrade could be worth it if you need the added RAM and performance.

Excited for this. Haven’t seen any reason to upgrade my current iPad since it’s already overpowered for what I need and Apple backported Stage Manager.

My OLED TV is one of my favorite purchases I’ve ever made. Made a bigger difference than HDR and 4K combined.
Interesting - I am still sticking with my old plasmas, as I still think they deliver the best quality, specially for watching at night. As we watch max a couple of hours per week, energy consumption is not an issue.

So is OLED really at the level of plasma regarding blacks and colors - or would I still have to wait a couple of more years?

I went from an amazing high end plasma to a LG C1 last year, definitely better blacks and better contrast, the brightness is the where Oled looks inferior to other technologies but at night is just not a factor, for someone who plays video games the difference is even bigger; I Would say if I were in the market right now one of those QD-Oleds from Samsung or Sony would be my choice but yeah, you can notice the difference between Plasma and Oled.

A 15“/16” iPad Pro would be an immediate purchase for me.
Why? It will still be crippled by iPad OS. Those Cupertino Cowards need to let iPad Pros have a form of Mac OS when attached to their keyboard and iPad OS in handheld/tablet mode.

many types of apps cannot switch well between a tablet mode and desktop mode. They are different frameworks involved and you really don’t want Apple operating systems to end up doing what Windows has tried.

If you mean some kind of dual OS iPad that can switch between macOS and iPadOS that can be done but macOS and macOS apps obviously needs more memory for system and graphics than iPads offer.

I have M2 iPad Pro with mini-led display. It's great, but blooming is not insignificant. Two candle-lit faces in a dark room? Cakey much.

Yes, I was referring to a dual OS iPad. Also, I'm not saying I need the hypothetically docked version of Mac OS to be 100% identical, or be able run full versions of resource heavy apps like Premiere. But if I could get 70%-80% of Mac OS on iPad I would be happy. The iPads have more than enough power to handle Mac OS. I suspect the real reason Apple doesn't do it is out of fear hurting their computer sales.

Because I’d like a larger screen. My wife and I both traded in our MBAs for iPad Pros 12.9 and we can do everything we need to do, including running our retirement side-business, on what you call a device “crippled by iPadOS”.

A device that switches operating systems depending on the way you use it would be a “Frankenstein” to me and i hope I never see it. Get yourself an MBA if you want to use a device that runs MacOS when it’s connected to a keyboard.

It won’t hurt computer sales either way. Macs have features and pro apps that a tablet can’t have even if it tried. More ports, reliable full size keyboard, better display options, colour profile management, disk utilities, networking options, midi configurations, etc etc

It’s actually beyond plasma in regards to color (black they both can get to zero) when you consider new features like HDR. 120Hz and 4K are nice if you watch sports or play video games.

Brightness will be better too since even the newest plasmas in the US are around 6-7 years old.

LG OLEDs surpassed the Pioneer Kuro in reviewed picture quality around 2018/2019. Everything since has been icing on the cake.

If I was to do it again I’d probably get the Samsung QD-OLED. Supposedly the best of both worlds.

If your plasma is still chugging along it’s probably not worth upgrading quite yet (assuming you got a mid-tier or higher set) as prices are still falling.

OLED + landscape camera and I will at the head of the queue to buy it.

And by that I mean.. I will just visit the Apple store online the day it is released.

display change only thing i would wait to upgrade for. Not sure what else they can add hardware wise though.

Yes, but only IF they can keep the current brightness levels. Some of the major downsides for me anyways of Samsung‘s otherwise great tablets is : the lower brightness levels and the inferior anti-reflective coating.

Those two along with my personal preference of the iPad Pro aspect ratio is why I prefer that over the Samsung options

The blooming is only an issue in very dark environments, otherwise you don’t notice it at all.
OLED doesn't need to achieve the high brightness of an lcd panel as per pixel dimming is far superior to dimming zones. This is apart from the better color volume and viewing angles of an OLED panel.

I have the tab S8 ultra and the MiniLED ipad and while the iPad is significantly brighter, the OLED display looks richer in HDR. I would classify it as a contrast first HDR experience and the iPad being a brightness first.

Also the Samsung aspect ratio is far better for watching content like movies and TV shows

It’s not a need more a want I can save for the 2024 one which would be the smarter idea too ;-)
You need to see yourself the stunning beauty and fidelity of subtle shade of HDR material displayed on Mini LED of the big iPadPro (and MacBook 14/16", and less so on iPhone 14 Pro). In fact, I now know that it's almost pointless to evaluate image taken by iPhone or to compare images between iPhone and others using any other displays.
