Samsung makes good screens though. In apple, LG looks awful, washed out. Even the retina LG screens still have ghosting issues and the colors are off.

I do wish I could be there during their production planning meetings with Samsung.

I like how both companies are acting professionally about this matter .. I couldn't care less where the components are made as long as it performs like an iPad should

i see the next samsung advertising:

"even apple uses our bright clear sharp galaxy display" :)

Samsung makes some great products, a shame about their shady business practices though. I'm glad Apple swallows their pride and chose the best parts for their products regardless of the vendor.

I wouldn't call it pride...I mean they did try LG didn't they? LG just couldn't provide a screen like Samsung. I bet Apple just got sick of having to replace their product. I remember reading posts before that said Apple should stop buying from Samsung etc. etc. It would be AWESOME if Samsung stopped selling to Apple. Everyone would be stuck with the crappy LG screens. :D

Go Samsung! Make that moneyyyyy.

Am I the only one who is sick to death of Apple/Samsung supply rumors, Cook will buy what he needs from the best place, if that has to be Samsung then so be it. It's just more gossip pitching for page views.

I prefer to think of having a Samsung component in my product like eating a burger with pink slime. I don't really have to know it's there and I sure as hell don't want to support it.

What is wrong with lean finely textured beef or as you call it... "pink slime"?

Apple is lucky that Samsung agreed to help them out like this. Apple has got to stop biting the hand that feeds it.

Old news, Asus Nexus 7 is months ahead of the hi res 7" tablet game.. at a lower cost.

Well played google.

Last year's Nexus was also a lower cost. And the build quality reflected that. Let's see if the back cover on this year's doesn't come apart, or the LCD spontaneously self destruct, or the flash become aggravatingly laggy in less than a year. Let's hope this one lasts a bit longer.

And if Samsung did that, then they'd lose billions per year.

Hence why the display arm wanted the freedom to be broken off from the main company and their own entity.

The people running that part aren't morons and don't want to be involved in the stupid Apple vs Samsung war.

Again, the DISPLAY arm is not even a part of Samsung. They want Apple's business and it's the main reason they broke off years ago...which was to avoid the conflict of interest.

SS Display makes displays for all of SS Electronics competitors

Let us not forget that Apple has the cash and the profits to seal virtually any supply chain deal. If needed they probably have the cash to setup up shop and produce their own if it were commercially and/or competitively advantageous.

The basic fact is Apple wants quality and they have shown suppliers, time and again, that they have no qualms about wholesale switching product lines if needed to get the price and quality they want. No supplier is sacred.

Shady business practices? Didn't Apple just lose against the US government for that ebook fiasco? Apple basically wanted us, the consumer, to pay more for ebooks. That's a direct slap in the face if you ask me.

I'm fine with this. As we all have seen, nobody can beat Samsung when it comes to displays. I had a Samsung 55" LCD TV for years, then replaced it with an LG 60" LED TV. The LG has better specs in every single way, and is much more modern, however the picture and color are total crap compared to my much older Samsung.

... The report also claims that Samsung, LG, and Japan Display will also begin supplying 7.9-inch panels for the next-generation iPad mini, ... Wall Street Journal story[/url] last week stated that the next-generation iPad mini is indeed likely to feature a high-resolution display from Samsung, with screens also being supplied from LG and Sharp.

I guess if name everybody at least some of them will be right. Sharp or Japan Display.

The next-generation iPad mini is expected to launch sometime in the fall....

In this report. Not in others. ( although guess Nexus 7 resolution/density bump probably has folks switching sides. )
