As a person who has recently bought an iPad Retina with Samsung Display, and Macbook Air with Samsung Screen and Samsung SSD.

Apple is lucky that Samsung agreed to help them out like this. Apple has got to stop biting the hand that feeds it.
You are a very confused little boy. Try to understand who is the customer in this relationship. No one ever complained about Samsung the components supplier, only Samsung the convicted thief of Apples design work.

Samsung Copies Apple

Apple basically wanted us, the consumer, to pay more for ebooks. That's a direct slap in the face if you ask me.
I don't ask you. The creator of a book should be able to set the retail price for his work. Only if ebooks become a viable business with reliable and predictable income for creators, they will be able to replace printed books. I sure don't want Amazon to tell me whats the worth of a book.

The creator of the book never sets the retail price of the book. The author gets paid the same whether the book sells for a dollar or 30 dollars. Author negotiate advances and back end volume. In the short term, at least, what amazon is doing is getting the author's books to consumers at a cheaper price.

All the leaks are about the iPad mini, does that mean there won't be a new iPad too?

Apply fanboi site X says they want Apple to release product Y cause some rumours have surfaced. Does that mean Apple could also release product Z too?

Of cause. Apple do what Apple wants to do. And does not care what the fanboi sphere thinks. Which is a good thing.

hahahaha, O apple! you kiddo! first you fight, then you leave, then you comeback and then you are friends with the same company.

this is a very childish behavior and i have never seen anything like this from any other company, stop acting like a kid.

that's good, samsung displays have the best quality. i was a bit worried when i read that LG would supply most of the retina displays for the ipad mini. apple did the right thing, you should never compromise quality.

it's funny how many people here hated samsung and dissed samsung...and now what? They all came back crawling...

Shady business practices? Didn't Apple just lose against the US government for that ebook fiasco? Apple basically wanted us, the consumer, to pay more for ebooks. That's a direct slap in the face if you ask me.

There's a monopoly in the eBook market, and it's name is Amazon.

They've destroyed Borders.
They've almost finished destroying Barnes and Nobles.
And the US government is trying hard to destroy their last remaining competitor, Apple.

What do you think where eBook prices are heading if there is only Amazon left? They haven't made any profit yet, because they need to keep prices low at the moment to build their monopoly. Once the competition is gone, Amazon will make huge profits.

Apple - bring it on in the marketplace will you? If not; I going to go to the competitor - Google Nexus and get the retina 7!

Apple caved and woke up to remember they originally chose Samsung because they make the very best displays. Then Apple got a bug up their butt to turn on Samsung and treat them as an enemy. Like a menopausal woman they've changed their mind again in an effort to exercise and flaunt their influence. It's working perfectly, they continue to impress the faithful and enjoy their backing. Apples got it made.

Samsung makes good screens though. In apple, LG looks awful, washed out. Even the retina LG screens still have ghosting issues and the colors are off.

I do wish I could be there during their production planning meetings with Samsung.

In most reviews I've seen, Samsung's displays have inaccurate color compared to LG.

I've been using a LG rMBP for quite a while now and have had no ghosting issues. But hey, I can only speak for myself and the products I own.

In most review that I have seen, most users pray for a Samsung screen - and when they find out that they got an LG, LG is automatically better.

There's a reason Apple is moving to Samsung in such a manner... the screen is simply far superior.

Lets just say nobody has returned the samsung screen asking for an LG screen... while plenty have turned in their LG screen citing it isn't the same as display unit (which is most of the time if not always, Samsung).

So, perhaps we need some actual cites?

In most forum posts I have seen, most users pray for a Samsung screen because that's what they hear from the echo chamber.
In most reviews and comparisons, LG wins out in color accuracy. Samsung wins out in contrast.

Googling for color accuracy and LG and samsung, got me these for the first page:

In the case of the Air, the Anandtech review actually mentioned that the display unit wasn't the Samsung:
Although I didn't have an AUO equipped MBA on hand, the one I saw in an Apple store looked closer to the LG than the Samsung.
Color accuracy is slightly better on the LG panel, although it's not beyond the noticeable threshold. Color gamut is comparable between the displays.

Given a detailed side by side comparison, which screen gets returned?
Final Words
Both displays are really good. If you've got a Samsung - be happy. It's a great vibrant display for everyday use. If you've got an LG - be happy, especially if you're a designer. You can value it's color accuracy and gradient rendering quality.

I ended up returning the Air with the Samsung display. I personally believe the LG is better quality and much more natural with accurate color for print and screen design.

As for my laptop, bias doesn't even factor in. I didn't pay for this laptop, and when it's time is up, I'll just trade it back into work for another just like the last several.

LG screens are so washed, Colgate used them in their whitening ads.

As for not paying, I don't see what that has to do with anything? I have a company car/driver - It's still mine no? It parks in my garage. And when I go on a company paid business trip, I still pick the hotels I want to stay in? Not just "whatever! I'm not bias cause I'm not paying"... I'm not going to stay in a hotel comparative of an LG screen and suffer from stockholm syndrome.

Have some more self-esteem bro!
But yea, good for you that your company gave you a laptop to work on. Would have really been weird if they told you you had to buy your own:p

not a bad decision, rather a good step, why delay or downgrade quality when you can get enough suppliers, now let's hope that there's a fingerprint scanner in the ipad and ipad mini too.:D

you forgot to finish the last sentence...

"for samsung."
