Congrats to Samsung. Well earned. They really hit it out of the park with the S7 and S7e
Incredible pieces of technology.
Incredible pieces of technology.
I did see that quote. It's wrong, but that okay.
It's wrong pedantically and practically. Pedantically, Apple has never incremented the number in a yearly fashion. That would entail the iPhone's number to be iP, iP2, iP3... instead we have iP, iP3G, iP3GS, iP4, iP4S. Practically, it can't be considered a yearly increment when they use the same number two years in a row. When Samsung intro'd the S, Apple was bringing out the 4. Sammy had the S2 when Apple had the 4S. Unless Samsung had some Machiavellian plan, the idea of copying that idea sort of falls apart.
Samsung is the company Apple needs - strong competition.
The only thing I hate about Samsung phones is their bloatware, but their hardware is a thing of beauty (weather-proof on the S7 and a stylus that's actually useful on the Note series).
You can't lump the 5C and SE in there as they weren't Apple's flagship phones. Otherwise you'd have to include Samsung's ridiculous phone names like the J1 Ace, J2, J3 Pro, C7, S7 Active...and on and on it goes.This. Exactly.
Apple has been all over the board with phone names: 3G, 3GS, 5S, 5C, SE.
Samsung has been completely predictable so far: S, S2, S3, S4,S5, S6,S7
Neither is better than the other. But saying Samsung copied Apple's naming is pushing it a bit.
Yeah, you're being a little pedantic and conflating. Samsung still uses all those names for different product lines. That has nothing to do with the S series though. They also have the A, J, and Y series to go along with Primes, the Megas, and... all equally irrelevant to your argument. Heck, gimme a letter and I bet I can find a corresponding Sammy phone. The fact that the numbers are aligned right now is interesting, but not the point. the point is that numbering was something samsung started doing after Apple did it. Look at the list of samsung phone names from 2009 through 2013. They actually used roman numerals at first for the Galaxy S line and then switched to a simpler numbering system a la Apple - that is fact as shown below. Call me pedantic, but Samsung mostly had a naming convention that was based on descriptive words and then they switched. The only exception has been the Galaxy line and the galaxy S line which have always been the phones designed to compete most with Apple.
Apple stole the i from Cisco and had to pay them for it. sourceYeah, you're being a little pedantic and conflating. Samsung still uses all those names for different product lines. Good research job. Unfortunately, it's also proves my point more than yours. Should have gone back a little bit further. Samsung didn't need to copy the idea from Apple. They only needed to go back in their own history. They had, as far back as 2002, the S100, S200, S300, S400, S500. Believe it or not, they even had "i" phones before Apple. The i250, i500, i505, i530, and who could forget the i700 running Windows Pocket PC. All of those phones were in existence before 2004. No one in their right mind would suggest Apple copied the "i" idea from Samsung. Same thought applies the other way around. The idea just doesn't hold water.
As for switching from Roman numerals... Cuuuuuuban, we're reaching a bit there.

Yup, lets agree to disagree. I doubt it would ever go bad. You're an admitted fan of Apple, not one of the idiotic fanboys who can't pull their nose out of Apple's metaphorical butt. There's a huge difference.Apple stole the i from Cisco and had to pay them for it. source
So finally after so much agreement we are back to disagreeing. Yes I am being very narrow in my definitions, but nothing I have said is incorrect and I have backed it all up. In the end it matters very little what either of say, so I will let it go before this goes bad.
BTW, back to your avatar, why were you limited to those choices? You can always go back to different pictures of 69 mustangs or horses or all sorts of stuff. Why only superheros or villains? Of course you may retort why do I have an avatar of castro holding a missile (which would a fair call out). In any case, I like the option you chose.
Who let you into the conversation anywayCisco had already used the actual term "iphone," not simply "i" that prefaced anything.
So, wrong again. Even a broken clock is right twice a day--at least strive for that kind of record!

It's irritating how good Samsung phones are. I can't switch from iOS because I rely too much on its services so I can only look on with envious eyes.
The large number of people buying Samsung phones.Who cares about Samsung?
So much fanboy-ism here. Samsung's hardware specs are astounding. Of course that's only half the story since software is incredibly important, but you can't think that all of Samsung is bad news.Samsung phones are crap to me and I believe there are far better android phones deserving the success but alas not. I honestly hate the idea of Samsung being a leader so I hope Apple will step it up
I really can't get my head around Android as an OS. I've got an android "gaming tablet" and find the OS so cheap and clunky. It'd be nice if, like the PC market, one could buy a device and install whatever OS they wanted on it. I don't mind iOS being so closed, but their hardware has seen better days.Agreed to an extent. Samsung's phone hardware really is great. But Apple's Ecosystem works so well between all my Apple products and it's so seamless. But this Note 7 looks fun to play with.
Not fanboyism as apple isnt my preferred vendor. Its specs are great but if I ever was dim. Enough to use android again I would avoid Samsung as I find better hardware to be out there for androidSo much fanboy-ism here. Samsung's hardware specs are astounding. Apple sold 40 million iPhones last quarter and are coming to the end of the product cycle to the iPhone 6s. Hardly reason to despair.
Apple's issue is what amounts to basically a 3 year cycle for redesign. Why do they not yet have edge to edge OLED displays? Why have they hung onto 16 gb as base storage? 3D touch was nice but it's not enough.
That said, I think Apple the 10th year anniversary model next year will be lights out and spark enormous interest from it's extremely large customer base.
This is a marathon not a sprint. The iPhone was a transformative product. Unless someone else comes up with another transformative product Apple will do fine and is no danger of becoming the next Blackberry or Nokia. (It seems that someone earlier made that leap.)
