I really really want Samsung to produce a full page AD explaining what went wrong with the design, engineering and production. I want every company using Li Ion to know how to not make pocket warmers.

Come on, are you really that naive you can't see the obvious motivation here? They're not doing it as some kind of atonement to regain one's own self-worth and repair a personal relationship.

Apologies of this nature are entirely self-serving. They are not designed to help anyone but Samsung's reputation and therefore, it's own value and future earnings. It's a monetary calculation that paying out for some newspapers ads is worth the cost if more people end up trusting them enough to buy more products.

Of course it's a PR play. An effective one.

Apple has issued a full-page ad in three major U.S. newspapers giving thanks for the Galaxy Note 7.
Having no jack is no more that important when your rivals explode.

Yea, as good as the apology video that the CEO did before they put out the replacement phones that did exactly the same thing as the phones they replaced. Sounds more like a hollow apology when actions don't line up with words. And you gotta love what Samsung posted about their exploding washing machines:
It is important to note that Samsung customers have completed hundreds of millions of loads without incident since 2011.

From what I have read Samsung is refusing to cover damage claims that were a caused by the Note 7. But hey, I guess that apology should make up for that, right. I have a wild idea, instead of paying money for printed ad, use that money and put it into proper safety and engineering testing.
Yeah, I saw videos of people who had cars that went completely up in flames and were totally destroyed because of these phones. At least they can use the newspaper print to wipe away their tears.

I don't think you comprehended what I typed.
By the way, I don't engage in tit for tat conversations either. So you might like to start it, but I'm not participating.

I don't know what that means, but- long story short: Samsung "closing down" due to one bad component in one factory in one city is a very, very, very silly, absurd, & unrealistic notion.
Apple won't have to search elsewhere for components. Your comment had no base in reality.
I don't know what format you prefer me airing that opinion in response to yours, but I'm sorry if it in some way was divergent from a method that you are willing to participate in.
This is how I'm familiar with people posting: comment/response, comment/response.
It is unclear to me the way you wish to communicate.

Hopefully they will indeed at some point figure out what exactly went wrong, and then, though I somehow doubt this will happen but will gladly be proven wrong, share their findings with others so as to reduce (or even completely remove) the chances of this happening again.

I would have thought this issue was behind them.
But perhaps they're still receiving angry feedback to prompt this additional response.

MacRumors, you should MAYBE focus a BIT MORE on Apple stuff now. The Note 7 thing is basically over.

Samsung is the one that ran this ad ... weeks later. Talk to them.

Some people here certainly has double standard towards Apple and Samsung.

For Samsung - **** happens! Give Samsung a break! Apple stuff also explodes (don't ask me for source).
For Apple - how dare you stop me from complaining about the MacBook Pro!

Don't ask you for sources?

And how is Apple "stopping" you from complaining? And why are you complaining?

Samsung will recover from this misguided product release, and the world will forget, unfortunately. Many consumers just don't care about the business practices of a company, and they will continue to give Samsung their money.

Does Samsung or anyone have any idea what caused the Note 7 fires/explosions? Then the Samsung washing machines injured a number of people when the tops detached. Bad times for stockholders.

Even 15% of the Note 7 users are refusing to return a flawed product. People are dying to have a Note device.
Well, let's hope not literally. And if they choose to take that route please don't bring it on the same flight as me because I am not quite ready to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Criminal charges should be coming soon. Samsung worked to circumvent US product safety rules and then proceeded to claim a replacement was tested safe when they now admit they don't even know the cause. That's criminal. Period.

they beat Apple to market but at what cost. Not surprising they want to skimp out on insurance payouts.

This isn't a crisis for Samsung, they'll recover and be back year with a note 8.

Combine that with Viv and you will get the new ring tone "Its burning...its burning....arrrrgggggg"

Well, they are sorry. Sh*t happens (glad I am not a Samsung user). They are taking measures to resolve this issue which is a good thing). Whereas some will blame the customer (using it wrong): nieces' iphone 7plus suffered water damage: 'sorry the warranty does not cover water damage. Presumably you did something wrong'.
If Apple would have had this issue it would have been big media news with non stop updating of the story. Full fledged updates on what went wrong. Who is to blame. Will Apple survive this fire issue. How bad will their stock be affected. Will it have carry over into their other product lines. Is your MacBook safe. It would have gone on and on and on.
I don't understand your comment about non-covered damage. Apple clearly states the phone is not water proof. While some users may get lucky with the new phone getting wet it is still up to the user to protect their phone. Had Apple put out the type of commercial Samsung did then you would have an arguement.
If you want waterproof get the Samsung but don't blame others for user carelessness.

Hope it didn't explode after getting a safe replacement.
She did not get a replacement, and I don't think she wants to invest $$$$ to resolve this issue..
Give it a break because that exploding is a really getting old.. .
