When will people understand that Samsung electronics is one company, and Samsung telecommunications is another company?

It doesnt matter. Samsung is Samsung at the end of the day. The profits all go to the same place. You would be a fool to assume they dont cross license patents, design teams, and other resources.

so they can copy

Considering they're years ahead to market with a product that already does most of what the iWatch promises and has the early bugs already worked out, I really don't think that's it.

More a matter of Apple paying to take advantage of Samsung's expertise in the field.

Why don't they just buy Samsung and sell off the parts they don't want. It's clear Samsung make the best components in Apple devices.

You are wrong on one point, china is not going to end stealing let alone buying up what in can't create.

----------

Where did samsung get the technology it has today? From the United States! S Korea was peasant country back in 1950.

----------

Samsung would be in dire straights if it wasn't for the U.S military guarding the north boarder for more than a half century despite the Constitution telling us not to do so.

Where, exactly, in the U. S. constitution does it say U. S. troops can't guard South Korea's northern border? Or were you talking about South Korea's constitution?

Do you have any idea how much that would cost vs just buying the components they need?

Does Samsung run the final assembly for their cell phones in their own plants?

Yes, Samsung uses its own assembly plants.

For top of the line models, Samsung uses their own assembly plant in Korea, in order to assure the best quality. It's reportedly a nice, modern place to work, with robotic carts and mostly women assemblers:

Less profitable phones are made in other Samsung factories in countries like Vietnam, where the labor costs are below those found in China. (Apparently many manufacturers are leaving China for Vietnam.)

Good for Samsung. I wish other companies would have their own factories.

Not likely that samsung will be selling out any time soon since they were the 7th highest valued company in october and sitting on a 15% increase,

It cracks me up when some bring up "the demise of samsung" in threads where they lose a contract or get sued. It's not happening, there are a hell of a lot of companies below that #7 spot that wish they were where samsung is.

I agree. Some can hate samsung all they want, but I remember when samsung pure disposable junk. Now they make excellent refrigerators, etc. while whirlpool is going downhill. The same goes for LG, I remember goldstar and lucky and they were a joke. They have both come a long way.

BWhahah

Apple has great design skills but Samsung has the best manufacturing facilities and engineers.

Samsung having the best manufacturing and engineers is the funniest thing i have heard in a long time, They are not even close to the top of the engineering category and in manufacturing they arent even top 5 lol but try again. MANY MANY MANY more companies manufacture parts and components Samsung is small potatoes . Also if Samsung is used they will have maybe one component that is Samsung designed the rest will be sourced from outside manufacturers thats how its done, ipphone 6 has 2 samsung parts in it that i can find the rest are others. so they are a part supplier thats it. foxcon has been their main manufacturer of their products but supply parts from samsung too. I doubt samsung will actually build the watch they have never manufactured the entire product for apple

So tell me my friend, who do you think has been in the electronics design and manufacturing business for the longest time with the most companies under its umbrella of electronics expertise?

And by the way, Foxconn really wouldn't amount to anything if it were not for Apple.
Why does Apple and many other companies use them for electronics manufacturing?

Tell me who has the most experienced electronics and electronic manufacturing engineers.

Foxconn would not amount to anything if it were not for Apple.

No you don't. Specialized manufacturers and assemblers are the reason why consumer electronics are so cheap. If Apple would start manufacturing themselves you would initially need to pay about 25% more for every product.

Absolute nonsense. Foxconn was one of the world's major assemblers long before Apple started to really take off. It has produced electronics for most major electronics companies.

The Note 4 is made in Vietnam.
Not sure how it would be classified on the profitability side, but the build quality is much nicer than the Korean built Note 3.

Quite frankly, you haven't a clue what you're talking about. If you had the opportunity to visit some of the manufacturing facilities that Samsung own, especially in S Korea (and the U.S.) you would be embarrassed by your ignorance. Some of the facilities are the most incredible things to see and witness.

I don't think....you've seen an Android Wear device.

You miss the point completely.

In its heyday, the blackberry too was seen as the gold standard of smartphones, and people simply couldn't imagine a better way of making a smartphone. Apple completely upsetted the status quo with a smartphone that was easy to use and which appealed to consumers, which is the most crucial factor here. It opened up a new market by selling to people who normally were intimidated by the concept of owning and using a smartphone.

For all its features, I don't see Android wear devices appealing to your average consumer, simply because it's considered too "geeky", and companies don't seem to be making any effort promoting it beyond its typical tech-savvy user base.

At the end of the way, we are talking about 2 different markets here. The people who would be interested in an Apple Watch won't be the people contemplating about Android Wear devices, and vice versa.

So they start making their own 'smart watch' and then make Apple's parts as well.

Best of both worlds I guess. Their watch looks really cool by the way. I need to read more about it.

-Apple has never had the ambition to develop a manufacturing capability.

I am not sure if a couple of decades ago dont qualify in history, but Apple had their own factory manufacturing Macintoshes, in USA.

http://gizmodo.com/5966278/what-ame...d-to-look-like-last-time-they-were-built-here

And Apple manufactures Mac Pros in Austin now, like since around Dec 2013:

You, Sir, and your alikes, could well learn how to Research your thoughts first. Google makes it way easier than ever. If only people just tried.

No need to be so pedantic. Didn't sleep well?

The Mac Pro is not being produced by Apple themselves but by Flextronics. If you would have bothered to read that article (which you posted yourself), you would have realised this.

Except that Android wear watches work with a variety of phones and Android has a pretty large user base last I checked.

If someone wants a smart watch - if they are on iOS - they can get the Apple watch - they can't get Android wear and vice-versa.

Right now one of the only company's that was actually smart about their smart watch was Pebble. Platform agnostic.

"Compatibility" is something a consumer should rarely if ever have to worry about. Sadly, we do. On many fronts.

They say an elephant never forgets.

Well here's one (White) Elephant Apple will want to forget.

Let's get them released ASAP..

Get the mugs buying them first.

Realise it wasn't what they actually needed or did what they do thought it would.

Get their refunds.

Back to the drawing board.

Once Apple realise not even they can polish a turd - then innovation can start I in all seriousness. But even sprinkling a wrist sized iPhone remote with glitter simply won't wash. Despite being showerproof.

The Apple Watch launch will certainly be interesting. But interesting in the same way that Foot spas were interesting. People thought they would be useful and blew their cash on them ... At first. Then after they realised that it was about as practical and useful as a an ashtray on a motorbike - did they say "Ebay here we come!"

This over hyped bit of clunkiness with the flashing lights and oversized bezel with limited functionality may seem mesmerisingly magical to the Apple aficionados. However those with even a modicum of intelligence, foresight and patience (the employed, fashion conscious, technically savvy for example) would be well advised to steer clear until something more thought through comes along.

Thanks

Apple doesn't think things through anymore. They just use they customers as beta testers.
