I own Apple (or, more accurately, a tiny piece of it).

Apple exists to take money out of your pocket and to put it into mine. So far, they have been doing that quite well. Apple can get away with just about anything, and people keep buying and buying and buying, because they know that owning Apple products means that they are cooler and better than other people.

Where is my damn downvote button?!

you must not understand the question... Thanks for the links yeah, some early LG displays that had issues. Seems they have fixed that now. I am not interested in your opinion. I want to see test data to support the LG display is inferior to the samsung as so many here believe as if it is a religion.

Personally, I found the Samsung rMBP to be badly over-saturated and highlights were lacking detail. But thats just an opinion.

Thanks!

Sharp has almost $16B in debt and has been posting a net loss in the billions every year. Let's see how willing Apple is to help them.

Who said Apple had to help them?

Apple is their customer and potential investor. As long as they deliver the goods, Apple couldn't care less.

Sharp's debt is their own problem. They will probably service/repay it with investments from Hon Hai Precision and money they will make from their IGZO technology - and if the articles I read are correct IGZO is going to make them a lot of money; IGZO screens consume only 10-20% of the power of conventional LCD, they will ****ing dominate the mobile market.

Even if Sharp somehow ends up folding, I doubt it, there is still Japan Display Inc, Toshiba, LG, and several taiwanese companies - companies like Hitachi can re-enter the game too if they feel there is money to be made.

I agree - people need to stop thinking ANY company is some sort of magic company and is the only one that can produce good products.

FYI - Samsung ditched Apple. Not the other way around. Is Apple relying more on other manufacturers - absolutely. Just not sure this is one of those cases.

It's business. Apple was ordering less and less from them, 15 million -> 3 million -> 1.5 million. If they think it's not profitable anymore, sure cancel the contract.

Apple doesn't seem all that affected.

This is not good for apple. It's not good for samsung either but it sucks more for the consumer at the end.

There is no money to be made particularly with small displays. Only 46+ inch displays yield considerable profits even in retail market. For the same reason Sony/Panasonic folded small display manufacturing.

On top of it if you are an Apple supplier with making 1-5 cents profit on dollar, you cannot sustain for ever. Bottom line there are no manufacturers ready to jump in with Billions of dollars investment.

Every samsung device I've seen is actually really, really good.

I've only seen the Galaxy S 2 and 3, my relay, and the galaxy nexus though.

yeah some folks say that but the iphone 4S and 5 are the best phones you can get..

Won't this cause big problems for Samsung's profits? It was my understanding that Apple pays Samsung millions of $ to produce parts. I know Samsung will probably stay afloat with TV and smartphone sales but they're surely become a whole load less wealthy because of this?

Samsung is into way more than smartphones and TVs.

Opinion. iOS doesn't offer swype, which is just the best onscreen keyboard there is. No file-management system, so I wouldn't be able to easily play on emulators and add the required folders within the phone itself.

Can you customize the lockscreen app shortcuts on iOS yet?

Is that why Apple has become the biggest and most profitable company in the history of the world? Do tell!

They were big in Apple II era. Then in fight with Microsoft, you know what happened. Then made peace with Microsoft. Then became big again. Now, in fight with google and Samsung.

Is this a pattern?

It only goes into your pocket if you sell. To be honest, the quicker you do sell the better.

Awful attitude.

That would be incorrect. Apple now pays a dividend, which will grow with profits. So if he owns enough he can live on the quarterly dividends without having to hold a Job.

That's not true at all. LG has high end phones, on par with the iPhone 5 and SGSIII too. They also do laptops, computers, monitors and not to mention tons of other electronic consumer devices.

LG is pretty much the same as Samsung on a product matrix scale.

The only LG smartphone I am aware of that is even over $50 is the LG Intuition. If you even try to search "Intuition vs iPhone 5" on Google, you will not find any articles - clearly showing that they aren't even competitors. You will find tons of articles though comparing it to the Galaxy Note (In fact, the article title of the second result when you search Intuition vs iPhone 5 says, "LG Intuition: hands-on with Verizon's Galaxy Note competitor").

EDIT: After looking up a bit, it appears that LG has iPhone 5 / GS3 competitors offered on other networks then mine (I have Verizon, other ones on AT&T appear to better compete). So perhaps LG could be checked off as a mobile phone competitor for Apple iPhone. I wasn't even aware that they offered laptops. However, I don't really believe that Samsung or LG are to be considered "serious" competitors when it comes to monitors, laptops or other electronic devices that are non-smartphone. I think that Apple and Samsung/LG have completely different target markets besides for the smartphone industry.

I have a LG screened rMBP so I've already lost.

But what the forum hasn't focused on is that the glorious rMBP Sammy screen is not only gone from Apple, but it will soon be showing up in lenovo, microsoft and sammy products. This is bad news for Apple fans.

Wow dude. It's kinda bold to suggest the #1 Fortune company would cut corners and give subpar component to $3000 computer.

Ther is ZERO evidence that LG is inferior.

Are you kidding? Apple is the king of putting cheap crap in computers. Look inside an iMac. Total garbage, wasted my money for sure.

There is lots of evidence of LG displays experiencing ghosting and image retention. While Samsung displays mostly seem to be immune to these problems.

This what we call Fear, Uncertainly, and Doubt. Better known as FUD

I know another way to describe it, best known as BS

Yes - that is a good description of your post...

I, like many others, have had experience with the subpar LG displays on the rMBP.

Let me know when you have some facts...

did you learn this in econ 101? I thought when you have more maufacturing capacity, the price of the mechandize will drop. Let's say Samsung used to produce 30m display for Apple. Now Apple go to AU, Sharp, Corning and other vendor for the 30m display starting 2013. Given the firm order, Apple new display suppliers will start ramping up capacity. So all of a sudden, display manufacturing capacity go from 30m units a year in 2012 to 60m unit (30 from Samsung, it will idle in 2013 + another 30m from all the new suppliers). So how do Samsung manage the newly available 30m capacity in 2013? They try to find anyone that want that capacity and the only quick way to get a new order is to lower the price.. And if they cannot find enough order to fill up the capacity, they will has to shut down the unused manufacturing capacity. Do you think it is easy to find another smartphone or tablet manufacturer between now and beginning of 2013 that need 30m display but don't have their own go to vendors? It is not all rosy for Apple either, they will have to endue start up problem with the new manufacturer. Just look at Iphone 5 assembly work with Foxconn. Taiyuan plant is a new plant and Apple is paying for the lousy manufacturing. It is a loss/loss proposition.

What if they have already identified their customer whom they could not honor earlier due to contractual obligation with Apple?

Apple can find Sharp not capable of meeting their volume hence can impact Apple bottom line as well.

It is risky for both equally.

Just so you know Ferrari is the Ferrari of computers.
http://store.ferrari.com/en/home-office/hi-tech/computer/

Acer makes displays as well. The Ferrari of displays. Not sure who makes the Lamborghini of computers. But they are so cheesy it has to be a PC of some kind.

If you don't go into that "officially branded" stuff it sure has to be Alienware. Very (un)appealing design philosophy, focus on power an the price just doesn't matter.
