actually, not quite. Samsung was not allowed to report how many smartphones were sold in Q2, due to the ongoing lawsuit with Apple.

So we don't actually know how many Samsung phones were sold in Q2. Lets remember that Samsung has multiple smartphone models, and the Galaxy S II is a runaway hit both in Asia and Europe.

Samsung chose not to for "competitive reasons". This could be due to Apple, or it may be because products (e.g. their 10.1 tab) aren't selling as well as they'd hoped.

As pointed out in a couple of other threads, Samsung has never (or at least in the past ten years) broken out individual item sales in their earnings reports.

So it's actually not a change for them.

The real change was earlier this year when they uncharacteristically released notes when Galaxy S2 sales hit 2 and 5 million.

samsung makes great tvs and they have some nice phones. probably have a phone you will like. thinking of picking up their windows phone. their newest tablet is nice too. then again a lot of tablets are.

Discussing this on a baised forum is pointless.

actually you'd be surprised.

on a lot of android enthusiast forums, a majority of readers have respect for Apple. I don't see it as much on here with respect to Android, however, Apple fanboyism was at a rampant high when the iP4 first came out... goodness

I suppose when you sell 200 variations of smartphones, you are bound to find enough suckers to buy their junk.

This is correct. Samsung has several models and Apple currently has the 3gs 8GB, iphone4 16Gb and 32GB. It has been this way for over a year. Meanwhile other companies, like samsung, develop several phones, for several carriers and then comparisons are made, when they should not be. Not apples, to apples (no nigra intended)

and why should Samsung NOT develop several phones for multiple carriers? They have every right to.

It was Apple's decision to not have their phone on every carrier for many reasons that make sense due to their vertically integrated products.
