We have devices in our pocket with thousands of times the capabilities of the computers that sent men to the moon and back and animated emoji is the crowning achievement? I know every generation says it, but I weep for the future when I'm retired and this bunch of idiots who eat Tide Pods are in charge.
Why do people get so worked up over something that's clearly not true? "Animated emoji is the crowning acheivement?" Who ever said it was? I just don't understand having a negative attitude over something that hasn't happened. Seriously, take a step back and look at what you said.

I think these animated emojis are very important. They allow us to hide behind interactive avatars that more truly reflect our inner being.

This is really who I am:

I use it every day.

Ummm Ive sent animojis to my friends that have Android phones. Sometimes I wonder if peopled in this thread own or have used an iPhone X or just looked online before they spoke to make sure what they were saying was in fact true.
And sometimes I wonder if the people on this thread read what was actually written before they start arguments over what they imagine what was said. ;) And I did own an X. For a month. I returned it. I’m thinking you misread me,so let’s try this again.

What did I say that was untrue? I’ve gotten Animoji on my Android phone. I didn’t say one could not. At least I didn’t think that was what I was saying or implying. Anyway I was saying that the Samsung ones can be made into a sticker set that could be used in several messaging apps. Or so I’ve read. I do not yet own the S9. Tomorrow I will and I’ll know better firsthand what it can do.

Again, I’m confused about what you think I said that was not true.

Can Animoji be turned into stickers? And used in other messaging apps? I don’t mean can an Animoji be sent to an Android phone. I know it can. Like I said, I got one sent to my Android. I mean can Animoji be converted to stickers and applied from within WhatsApp, for example?

It’s my understanding that they aren’t meant to be used like that. So I’m just saying Animoji and AR Emoji are two different things and Samsung didn’t copy Apple. If anything, they more closely copied Bitmoji. The resemblances that do exist between Animoji and AR Emoji are superficial. Once you get past making facial expressions with them (the common element) they are meant to be used a bit differently at least some of the time.

I liked Animoji karaoke made by other people. But I didn’t end up using them very often, myself. Still, they’re cute and I like them. So what are you annoyed about with me?

Samsung's AR Emoji beet Apple's Animoji.
Lets face it Apple has the better face detection by far but all that work has given Apple less time making the most out of it.
Samsung has played it smart, use tech that may not be the best but good enouth and allows mork to be done were it matters, the end user.

Just like Windows v Mac, Windows 1.0 may of not been very good but it was decent enougth and was out on the market for less and did what the end user needed to do, and they improved on it later.

This is were Samsung is crushing Apple, Apple has not learnt that to the end user it's good enougth for them now and when they get used to it and want more then S10, S11 and so on, not iPhone X ££££££ wait.....

Tried it maybe four times on my iPhone X. It gets old very fast. Im sure children could have fun with this for hours though.

Apple's Animoji are enabled through the TrueDepth camera system, which is Apple's 3D facial recognition feature that maps out a user's facial features.

I'd really like to know why I keep seeing this... It's a lie.

Animoji only uses the front camera, not TrueDepth sensors.

Don't believe me? Go try it in the dark.

Yes, it's definitely much better than Samsung's weird implimentation - But this DOES NOT use TrueDepth.

Why did they just have to copy this? This is the kind of blatant rip-off that you would think a major competitor would avoid. The assistants were different since they provide some utility. This is as if Samsung had offered a bootleg Photo Booth in their notebooks.
they do.

Because people really enjoy things like Animoji, despite what you’d read her and Samsung would do anything to be like Apple in mobile. Apple crushes them.

First page, four comments who emphasize how little they care. Yet they cared enough to post on this thread within an hour of the article appearing.

Oh, one of those. I'm sure you think you've made a profound observation. Animojis remind of me of Gopro's surfing pig, which marked the apex of the stock in the 90 dollar range. It's around $5 last time I looked. Touting something so singularly useless as a major new feature does not bode well.

What’s with all the “I’m not 12 yrs old” comments? I’m an artist, from comics to concept art to animation...and I’m 41. These things are made to enjoy and have fun with. I don’t use it daily, but it’s there just like all my other creative apps on my phone so I can use when I want to create some fun content. It’s a really fun feature. I know this is not for everyone, but making it seem like only a kid or teenager would enjoy it is asinine. As for what’s better, well the use of this feature is subjective. But clearly Apple is far better in the tech department.

To this day I still don’t get why people pay so much for a Samsung device. IMO it’s a “feature salad” smartphone, just like it was 4-5 years ago.

It seems everyone is missing the point that Animoji is a secondary feature behind FaceID.

Samsung copied the easy bit in order to appear to look like it does everything the X does.

Its true purpose is to mask the fact that iPhone X has secure 3D infra red dot matrix biometrics and Samsung does not.

Apple is 2 years ahead at least in this regard.
