The release timing for this news was the classic politicial/corporate strategy.

Not only was it on a Friday afternoon, it was a statutory holiday.

This could easily be remedied by adding a Structural Integrity Field Generator to the device. They just need to make the phones a little thicker so there is room to put one in...

These tests are just stupid IMO, I'm a heavy user (in the offshore industry climbing on and off boats) and my iPhone 6 Plus is in perfect condition with only a standard Apple case - you know why? Because I treat it with a little respect as it cost nearly $1000 and I don't apply over a 100lbs of force to a small area in the middle and look after it.

Yes, all smartphones will break, and I understand some will have accidents as these are thin devices and they only have a finite amount of strength. How about you look after your stuff you pay a lot for and don't subject it to all that abuse, that goes whether you have an iPhone, Samsung or HTC.

Like >99% of phone users out there, this should never be a problem.

Do you want them to stop crash-testing cars, also? Doesn't matter if you 'plan' to force-break your phone, scientific tests are worth having to know the physical attributes of the phone.

The publicity for such tests was one of the best things to come out of the iPhone 6 bending issues. Many phones were tested, the data is useful.

Back during the early android days when it wasn't roses, kitkats and lollipops...a lot of Apple fans always made fun of android. "Android is slow" "android is ugly" and my favorite one to this day "Android is for poor people who can't afford iPhones" It was ok to bash android and hell even its users but God forbid the tables be turned on the iPhone fans.
Here's the difference:

This is an Apple site. At various points in history, it has been swarmed with Apple-owner-hating jerks. The name of the "opposing" company doesn't matter, Microsoft, Google, Samsung, whatever. If they hate Apple, fine. If they hate the iPhone, fine. If they hate ME because I own a Mac, that is going to annoy me.

Point 2....I've never been to an Android site to make fun of Google, or Samsung, certainly not owners of their phones. Few Apple fans have done so. Hell, there are no active "We Love Microsoft" sites, so where would we do so for them?

So, why do a holes come here to do it to me?

I can see why nobody plays chess, anymore. Idiocracy, a documentary.

Just read my signature: I do really like to try everything.
But surely I strongly support Apple because I like their products since 1990.
Are you really asking about Samsung's fan? I could easily name one by one on this forum, just to be banned for another few days :D
So let's just enjoy the conversation here ;)

I'm just laughing loud about all the haters that stormed the web at the time with this ridiculous "bendgate" and now are in denial.

It wasn't an issue with the iPhone 6, and it isn't an issue with the galaxy S6.

But haters gonna hate.

----------

Are you speaking about your ? Sure, very strong reality distortion field. I've yet to see a real iPhone bent in a front pocket just by normal usage.

----------

We know perfectly well that the whole story was blown up by Apple haters, click baiters on YouTube and a few paid shills.
We know that.
But now Samsung supporters are in denial. It's called full defensive mode, mate .

----------

Are you really defending Samsung over that ? Really ? Lol

----------

Samsung S4 a great phone ??? Really ?! The worst galaxy ever is a great phone..... Amazing.

Ps: it's my son's phone, so I know it very very well.

----------

Nobody ever said an iPhone couldn't bend.
It's a thin piece of aluminium and glass. You can definitely bend it.
Just not under normal usage.

----------

Yep. The "neutrality" is claimed by people that, incidentally, are ALWAYS posting against Apple. What a coincidence :D

I don't think you realize you sound like a hater yourself. Live and let live, don't blame a couple of forum users for what is obviously a media coverage issue.

Too bad 'form over function' rules so many things these days, but I prefer 'form follows function'.

I still love the iP4S for how strong and compact it is.

I can't wait to hear what the Samsung fanboys are going to say about this.

They won't say much. Underdogs have the privilege to ignore their failings the closer they get to the top.

For strength? Are you kidding me? I've seen countless shattered 4 and 4S screens over the years. My iPhone 5, on the other hand, that thing is a TANK.

The ip4s was the last "solid" phone Apple made, that thing was a freakin tank. If I even looked at my ip5 it would gouge. ip6 seems even more delicate.

He isn't saying manufacturers should stop testing, but rather third parties who may or may not be qualified to do so. And I have to agree with him. Random third parties are more likely to spread disinformation than otherwise. But huge kudos to Apple for being as transparent as possible in offering press tours of their testing facilities.

For the record, the data produced by such third parties should only be compared within itself and never to other third parties' results. This by very nature of their questionable qualification, which stands for all third parties regardless of their prestige. Which is to say that such data is only marginally "useful."

Perhaps more importantly, his remarks regarding the general care afforded to such an expensive device is far more relevant to the conversation given today's disposable-minded culture. I personally use no case on any of my iPhones and do just fine because I take care of them. Yes, accidents can happen, but they can also be avoided. To argue that some accidents cannot be avoided is to shirk personal responsibility.

Gouge - noun - an indentation or groove.

I don't understand. Seems ironic that we both share the exact opposite impressions about the two devices. :)

I am for once happy for samsung, this will definitely make the s6 and samsung more popular no matter in a good or bad way. Laugh everyone, share to everywhere you want, make this viral, and I’m sure this will make the s6 launch even more popular.D

Create identical conditions. Remove the unknown variables. Get repeatable results. It's called science people.

What you're all asking for is anecdotal evidence and hearsay.

Sigh... if it says Galaxy S6 on the thread's title but on video they are testing the Edge, what do you think about that? something missing right?

i'm so excited to hear what these peasant samsung fanboys have to say about this. Giving Apple **** about design flaws, then this. Copying Apple down to minisculine details, until they cop all the 'manufacturing flaws' of apple themselves.

Thats what you get when you throw rocks at a giant. I hope Apple do a campaign on this, although it'd be low, it would be hilarious.

"They have months to literally COPY and study our design, and they STILL fall short."

Viral would make the s6 launch 'even more' popular? Lol you're insinuating that the s6 launch will be popular. :D

A tank ? I've seen dozens of shattered backplate on iPhones 4 and 4S.

Sure. I really hate trolls storming this forum just to bash Apple on almost every aspect, pretending neutrality, sometimes putting a bunch of Apple's devices in their signature just to appear more credible (I'm not referring to you).

Really why the ibent fuzz? because ordinary people start posting pictures of their bended iphones inside their pockets....well don't show me a machine doing it, show me ordinary users testimonies and then i will believe...

My wife and I both heavily abused our IP4's, I still have an old one kicking around as an emergency phone. Man those things lasted. The ip5 was junk in terms of durability, like I said it gouged with any light drop, not scratched but gouged. The ip4 also had that quality, mechanical watch feeling of solidness which is kind of hard to explain, even to this day when I pick it up I get a little dopamine rush, that is until I turn the screen on hehe.

Seriously dude? Apple fans don't make fun of android users? Just go back and look at the comments made by Apple users when Instagram was finally brought to android and tell me that Apple users never looked down their noses at android customers. Even on this site, I've seen people say "android is for poor people" in which I just facepalm. So, because somebody has an android phone....it automatically means they're poor? Or ghetto? Or "not good enough to get an iPhone"? Again, stop trying to make is seem like Apple and its users are so innocent...when both have a long history of talking trash about the competition. So again, it's ok to bash android. It's ok to make fun of android users. Hell it's even ok to do it here. But God forbid anybody say anything slightly negative about Apple.

And tbh, what I see on this site isn't so much "Apple hating" What I see, are those who do like Apple. They just don't think Apple is God's gift to technology. They have no problem giving other companies credit for what they bring to the world. However when they do, they're labeld a troll. Like I've said again and again, I like Apple. Hell I'm typing this message on my iPhone 6+. But, I don't view Apple as some God-like company that can never do wrong. If Apple screws up, I have no problem calling them on their BS. Same for any other company. But again, when somebody does that on this site...they get crap for it. "OMG, you have the nerve to say something bad about Apple? You should be banned!!!!!"

And yes if you go to some android sites...there are Apple fans there. If they wanna be there, so what? It's a public forum, such as this one. If somebody went to Androidcentral and trashed my GS6 Edge, you honestly think I'd give a damn? It's just a phone. I get that this is macrumors. But some of yall act like if somebody says something slightly negative about Apple, they should be banned and thrown off the planet. Bashing Samsung is ok, but one must not ever say anything about the almighty Apple.

Well said. I'm also "amused" by those that, to me, come off as insecure because they are the ones bringing up Apple's competition in threads that completely irrelevant. As if the only way they can feel better about themselves and the products they own is by putting down the competition even when the story has nothing to do with the competition. "But Samsung..." "But Microsoft..." "But Google...." "But Pebble..." "But..." and so on.

Really why the ibent fuzz? because ordinary people start posting pictures of their bended iphones inside their pockets....well don't show me a machine doing it, show me ordinary users testimonies and then i will believe...

Reallly... Most of the raucous came from a guy who bent the phone with his hands in an edited clip. He got millions of hits on youtube. Even if you had a guy posting crap like that (phone bent by sitting on it), why would you believe it?

At least here, they're actually using test equipment to test the phones and not some random guy off the street in a dubious picture or video.

In all likelyhood, both the Iphone and Samsung will be fine in normal use. There was no bending issue at all; just some clown with a video camera and a naive crowd.

This just demonstrate that thin phones no matter the brand will bend under significant pressure... Duh!

Completely agree - which is why everything else in this thread is really noise. At the end of the day, there's no "controversy."

verb: gouge; 3rd person present: gouges; past tense: gouged; past participle: gouged; gerund or present participle: gouging

1. make (a groove, hole, or indentation) with or as if with a gouge.
"the channel had been gouged out by the ebbing water"
synonyms: scoop, hollow, excavate;

Yeah seems like we've had different experiences, it happens I suppose.

What "miniscule details"? God people sound so moronic, looking at the S6 right next to the iPhone 6 they don't look alike any more than any other phone, and less than others like the M8 versus the ip6. The case for Apple copying other phone designs is much stronger, but really who cares as it's an industry given.

No I think he hit the nail on the head. It's literally 15 pages of people saying "Derp derp what do the Samsung fans have to say now?..." I can understand the derision towards Samsung who's foot is firmly in it's mouth now, but it's weird how seriously some take it and how much blame they ascribe to a few people on a web forum, as if they are responsible for the media at large.

There is no truth whatsoever to these rumors about the bending and cracking! None whatsover! The phone is perfect and tens of millions of satisfied customers praise its glory!
