Or maybe Apple is telling Samsung to go ******* themselves for copying the iPhone and iPad.

That's not how the big-boy world works. Apple likes to diversify their supply chain and put suppliers against each other to get the best deal.

$425? Retracing to 50% off its highs is uncharacteristic for AAPL stock. I believe we are near the bottom and I will not go much lower then $525. So stating to buy now is a pretty good bet.

I generally agree but you cited some bad math. 645 to 485 is a 24.8% retracement. 645 to 425 is a 34.1% retracement. A 30% retracement is "major" and would set-up a long and strong bull run. It might only go there a few minutes or hours.

In any case a good rule of thumb is buy on weakness, and the weaker it is, the more you buy at a time. I think we can agree AAPL is a "core holding" for at least the next 2 years.

Nice

I'm liking this move closer to Japan. IMO, they are the only Asian Nation still with Honor. They won't screw you like S. Korea.

REUNIFICATION!!!! :apple:

Oh yes, bad math. I guess I meant in my mind that a move up from $425 to its highs would be 50%.

But I believe a 30% retracement for a stock like Apple would not be a bullish sign, as it would brake some major support levels. In any case I don't think it will happend. Hopefully we are currently near the bottom and Apple stock should be a good buy for the next couple of years. I just hope Apple will fill some gaps offering choices in iPhone and iPad screen sizes.

it would brake some major support levels
I cited specific support levels. One, the top of a channel at 485 that has years of duration, and one a rather large price gap at 425. We already broke below a rising trend line off the bottom of the channel test this week. There is another moderate rising trend it is approaching now and if it breaks below that the channel top is the likely strong support point. 485. This is all technical pricing talk. Nothing to do with fundamentals, product release cycles, and such "mundane facts". :D

Notably the trend breaks have been accompanied by higher than normal volume which is a confirming fact.

Rocketman

I have attached a commented technical chart for AAPL for the year.

So if this Digitimes' report turns out to be false, can Samsung sue Digitimes for $10 Billion? :D

Apples to Oranges

Apple is the new Microsoft!!!

and next A6 chip build by Intel????

well if google is still claiming to be the dominate one in the market by number of android devices this statement would be false. further more apple is hardware company Microsoft is software so Apples to Oranges as far as I'm concerned. Nothing wrong with shopping around. Samsung wanted to play ball so I say stick it to em.

I'm just tired of the fools always bagging on MacRumors, AppleInsider, or 9to5mac for sourcing Digitimes.

Taiwanese ODM's accounts for 90% of world's PCs and a big chunk of mobile devices... supply chain insiders constantly leak news to local Taiwanese news media such as Digitimes, which employ or have connections with over 1,000 tech savvy employees... Taiwan is essentially an all-in-one tech-hub... these people know what they are talking about, which is why most respectable market news outlets would refer to Digitimes for technology 411... if reports from Digitimes are inaccurate, it's mainly because purchasers scrapped their original plans despite earlier placement orders from suppliers, which happens in the industry all the time.

Apple's supply chain is no different... Foxconn (aka HonHai) is a Taiwanese company, not a Chinese one mind you... it's just that their factories are based in China... the other major components inside the iPhone (aside from panel and chip) are made by said Taiwanese supply chain...

Those on the Anti-Digitimes bandwagon who ignorantly bag on their credibility all the time have no idea what they are talking.

in the 80s, it was Japan that had the reputation as technology thieves. that attitude is chronicled in books like American Psycho.

The way you're gloating and making broad generalizations about an entire country makes me think you have no idea what acting with honor means

What's Digitimes accuracy percentage? This has nothing to do with bigotry as you suggest, just facts.

Perhaps you should stick to chasing bright shiny objects.

Define "OK". Elpida isn't even listed on the Tokio Stock Exchange anymore... This rumor is really fishy.
Just because it is not listed does not mean a company does not exist. They could have been bought out and gone private. All of Samsung's US subsidiaries are private and not listed.

In fact does anyone here know how one can invest in Samsung? I see they have an ADR on the London exchange but I can't find any way to invest in Samsung through US markets.

Does Intel make their cpu's in Taiwan? Because the processor is a big chunk of the total PC/laptop cost these days. The memory is mostly Samsung/Hynix, and a lot of the hard drives are made in Thailand.

Apple needs Samsung more then Samsung Apple. Samsung is developing new technologies and manufacturing real quality components. Apple can't manufacture any mobile components nor even assemble them. Apple is about style and marketing. They could not even design a working antena for the iPhone 4.

No, Samsung needs Apple more than Apple needs Samsung. They are their best customer, and if Apple takes their NAND and LCD business elsewhere, those units of Samsung would suffer.

Just because Apple is no longer a manufacturing company does not mean they aren't a producer. They do the design work and then contract with companies who can meet their specifications. If Apple didn't request a "Retina Display," chances are pretty good that neither Samsung, LG, nor Sharp would produce them. While demand for DRAM is much more widespread (as it is more of a commodity), Apple is a big enough customer to make a difference, and help prop up a struggling competitor.

Apple makes only 2.6% of Samsung business. This is nothing considering skyrocketing demand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Electronics#Major_customers

So why then non-retina iMac display is still made by LG? No other LCD maker could come even close competing with Samsung, LG, and Sharp on combination of quality/production capacity/cost. They pretty much own the market also being ahead in new OLED technologies.

I think the point was nobody else is ordering them. So they wouldn't be making them.

No Apple will never beg. But they will sue Samsung for discrimination...
Sorry, but my sarcasm meter is not working today.

No company can sue another company for refusing to sell product to them.
It happens all the time.
Samsung has no obligation to sell its memory to anyone.
They can pick and choose at their discretion.

The sarcasm was about Apple focusing too much on litigation rather then on innovation.

No one said about "refusing to sell". But at some point Samsung could refuse to manufacture obsolete product for an obsolete phone.

That obsolete phone has limited multitasking so it can't even take advantage of more memory.
