Call me old fashioned, but when I am outdoors I prefer to enjoy the outdoors... even if it's in my backyard.
I don’t understand this statement. Say you fancy watching something on TV, but think it would be nicer to watch it outdoors, so you go outdoors to watch it. But now you’re outdoors, so suddenly you’d rather “enjoy the outdoors”. Well if “enjoying the outdoors” is better than watching TV then why did you initially want to watch TV? There was nothing stopping you going outdoors to “enjoy the outdoors“ instead of watching TV.

the fact is that if I want to stay outdoors, it is to stay outdoors and enjoy the experience in the fullest.
I also think that different locations are for different things. In the kitchen you cook, in the restroom you poop and shower, in the living room you watch tv, in the studio you read work and study, in the bedroom you sleep (or other fun things), so in my patio I do what’s unique for the patio.
Now, some people might think differently, and it would be their legit right, but I see it this way.

The market for outdoor tvs exist. Someone's buying them if Samsung is going to make them. It's impressive they're adding features like Airplay which they probably don't need to add to sell them.

Samsung has a reputation for being very hard on tv warranty claims. Whilst I own Samsung TVs, that would probably scare me away from an outdoor one (if I ever wanted one.)

I need 4 of these for my house in the Hamptons.

Wait, first I need a house in the Hamptons.

I don't think the sort of folks that regularly put TVs outdoors are too concerned with the IP rating or app connectivity. They have "someone" do it for them.
Yes, but the ad is aimed at the "someone" who does it for them :p

What the fook does this have to do with Apple? This site is quickly becoming *****. Does anyone still pay to "upgrade" their account on here?

Well there’s only so many articles you can write about Apple software point releases, failing keyboards or Apple discounts at Best Buy. Granted, we’ve had the exciting stories about Apple store re-opening lately (store by store /s)

You don’t like barbecues then?

This TV will be great for watching sports outside, except there are no sports right now (other than Czech ping pong competitions), and I’d rather be lobotomized than own another TV to drain more hours out of my life.

I knew someone who was a personal assistant for a super rich person. It was literally that.

The rich client would say something like, "It'd be nice to have a TV here, and a jacuzzi tub." casually and the assistant would make it happen. Client didn't care about cost. $20K here, $50K there was nothing to this guy.

Except for his employees' salaries, apparently. He ended up quitting after being denied a raise.

Funny, that.

Sounds like a client I have. Has an EXTRA half million dollar stretch limo (in case his first one breaks so he doesn’t have to “slum it” in a Mercedes, I guess?), but you recommend he provide basic health care to his employees and he throws a fit.

If Samsung tested this unit in Korea, then it can withstand the harshest environments. Korea is miserably hot and humid in the summer and insanely cold in the winter.

Okay this just seems insane to me. Must really be meant for a climate with very little rain. Would never be a thing here in Denmark.

Anyone have one or considered it?

I wouldn’t need the tv outdoor if I had that scenery at my home like in that last image. I guess this tv is for those riches who have that kind of scenery at their homes taken for granted.

...
As far as I know, eating while heating/cooking food outdoors has been a staple of humanity since a few thousand years ago.
Now I crave for bbq... thanks!

So you have a room indoors for cooking, but you’re fine with cooking outdoors. You have a room indoors for watching TV, but you’re not fine with watching TV outdoors “because different locations are for different things”. Just sounds a bit arbitrary to me. I say do what you like where you like, but to each his own.

Squirrellydw is right, this market already exists with Sunbrite and other smaller companies that tend to run even more expensive. Seeing Samsung enter this market is really interesting. My sister in law lives in Tucson and has a really nice back patio area, pool etc and they were interested in getting a TV outdoors so they could hang out in the backyard more. when I showed them how expensive they were they decided to hold off.

indoor TVs don't really work well outside. It isn’t just the temperature swings and rain/wind that is the issue (which they are), but sunlight and reflections. On a sunny day you wont really be able to see anything on a regular tv. It will either wash out so bad you can barely see it, or the screen will just look like a mirror with reflections. Just think of how hard it can be to see your phone/ipad/Apple Watch screen on a sunny day, especially older models that weren’t as bright or didn’t have the anti reflection newer models do. These TVs have much better anti-reflection screens and are way brighter.

A spoof, but well done:

Meh. Neither extreme is that probable, and it especially isn’t likely that, after turning off some technology (by using even more technology), everyone suddenly flips from one extreme to the other.

It’s possible to have an outdoor TV and still have casual conversations with each other or enjoy the weather.

Then why bother reading this thread?

Because it was on the front page, it's about technology, and I have an opinion that I'd like to share.

Well, that's why the initial post was about me and not "everyone should do as I say."
At the end of the day, we know that people will use stuff differently... conversation pits are well known for the goal of encouraging conversation but as we all know they were also used for different stuff in the 1970's 😛
