MP 1,1-5,1 Sapphire RX 580 on 5.1 - boot screen and firmware update

I just bought and installed this card in subject. All working good after few hours.

If I'd want to try a Mojave update, can I apply the required firmware update or should I use the original I still have?

Plus, kind of related, if I click ALT on boot, I don't get a boot screen after the chime but the display stays black. Is it normal? I'm not sure if the RX 580 (not Mac edition) should give a boot screen out of the box.

No boot screen unless you get it flashed. Firmware update will work though.

So I basically shut down the computer, hold the power until it flashes...and then pray it's all going good?

Good evening!
System: Mac Pro 5.1, upgraded with Xeon 6 core, Radeon RX 580, 16Gb of RAM.
I upgraded from High Sierra to Mojave, everything works perfectly. Today I brought a Samsung Evo 1Tb on which I want to install Mojave. I initially tried with Carbon Copy Cloner 5 but I can't boot from the SSD because I can't see the boot disk screen. If i presed Alt (option) key, the screen remain black and computer not start!
How can I install Os X Mojave on my new SSD in this situation?

Run Mojave install.

When you see this page, click "show all disks"

And select the SSD

You should never do this for non flashed RX580

Anyway, you can select your cloned boot drive at system preferences -> startup disk

I try but if i select cloned boot drive at system preferences -> startup disk, monitors remain black and not boot.
If i select the disk ( ssd), for instal, from file installer, require restart. I click restart gave me this error

So i donloaded 5-6 times from App store and same error. So i take a instaler file on another source and i make a bootable instal drive via Terminal. But i dont know how use this without boot screen... . So... what option do i have?

Remove all hard drive except the SSD, plug your USB installer into the cMP's front port, then the cMP should automatically boot to the installer.

Correct. If you have multiple screens, disconnect all but leave ONLY one connected.

Mee to but i invest in system upgrade first! And probably old behavor... i consider much convenient multiple monitor setup for vork. I play veeeeery rarely.
However your setup looks verry good!

Could an RX580 drive an Apple Cinema HD Display 30" from its DVI port, plus a 20" ACD 'passively' from each DisplayPort?

Reason I ask is that my current HD7950 can by default only drive the 30" and one 20". There's only 2 clock generators available so it needs an 'active' mini DP-> DVI adapter as they should provide their own clock signal. Anyway, with a suitable adapter on each mDP, I can run the 3 monitors.

However, what about an RX580? That is supposed to be able to run 5 monitors simultaneously, which rather implies that with my 30" on the DVI, I should be able to also run the 2 x 20" displays just with DP->DVI passive adapters. Can anyone confirm this?

It should only be temporary as like h9826790 I want to run a single 5120x1440 display (hence the need to upgrade from the HD7950), but until I can afford that, I need to run my existing 3 monitors and just trying to establish how I will be best able to achieve that.

I dont have 30" display, but i have 3x24" HP monitor runing thru adapters and work perfect!

It's the type of adapter that's crucial. The active adapters I have are miniDP->DVI, but I will need DP->DVI and don't want the expense of active ones, so good to know passive ones will be fine.

Thanks. I think the crucial point is that the RX580 is designed and specified to be able to drive 5 monitors simultaneously at high resolution and has the hardware to do so, whereas the HD7950 does not claim to be able to do that for 3.

Just waiting for my RX580 now.
