Satechi today announced the launch of a new USB-C Clamp Hub, an add-on accessory designed to be used with the new 24-inch M1 iMac models.

The USB-C Clamp Hub has 3 USB-A ports that support 5Gb/s transfer speeds, a micro/SD card reader, and a USB-C port, and it attaches to the iMac using a single USB-C port at the back of the machine.

A knob at the back of the hub secures it to the iMac, and while it is made from an aluminum material that is designed to match with Apple's devices, it is only available in a silver color.

Satechi's USB-C Clamp Hub is available from the Satechi website for $54.99. Customers can get a 15 percent pre-order discount using the promo code IMAC15 at checkout.

Wow, this is actually a very neat idea.

I never understand why Apple only put ports at the back on their deaktop Macs, making it hard for people to actually plug stuff in. Most Windows PCs have some set of ports at the back, but also ports at the front/top, because of obvious reasons. But I guess Apple prioritize form over function.

Good idea, but if it acts as a "clamp", wouldn't I risk damaging / scratching the iMac with it ?
That's what thin rubber/foam pads are used for. Most clamp devices I've seen recently come with the little rubber/foam pad 'stickers' to stick on the clamps so this doesn't happen. You can also buy these at any Target or Walmart near where they sell picture hangers and wall mounting devices.

If you look closely at the picture, it seems that the rubber/foam pad is on there.

Nice idea and Satechi make solid products — I have their stand for the iMac.

However, I'd be concerned that clamp would scratch the iMac, especially taking it off? Is it sealed with rubber pads at least?

Legacy of the ridiculous Jonny Ive and his impractical design choices prioritizing looks over functionality. So glad that guy is gone.

I wonder if you can clamp it to the stand to hide it a little. Not sure the cord is long enough. Hopefully, they made the clamp part big enough that if a slightly thicker iMac (30"?) comes out it will work as well.

It never ceases to amaze me the raging fixation Satechi has with USB A as 2021 starts to wind down, at any rate they'll keep releasing 4:1 ratio of usb a to usb c products well into the Paris Olympics...

It's sort of a circular problem - vendors keep making usb-A ports because people still have a lot of legacy hardware that needs it, and as a result companies still use usb-a and micro USB cables because they are cheaper.

When buying new electronics these days I try to always:
1. Get something with lithium ion over NiMh batteries (surprisingly a good number of devices still use NiMh) and
2. Prefer USB-C over USB-A, though even this is a pain. A proprietary wireless charger I just received with a $500 dive computer just showed up with micro-usb... ugh.

So it looks a bit naff and only brings one USB-C port to the front while providing absolutely nothing else. Potentially also blocks a speaker, air vent, or just scratches the finish.
you can move it wherever you want. It has a clamp on it. There is soft silicone on the inside edges just like on laptop stands. It wont scratch anything.
One usb c port is crap though
