What happened was...

Safari on iPhone has a text scroll bug on this site. If the text box has too much text in it you can’t see what you are typing and you can’t move the cursor to scroll the text inside the text box. I don’t know if anyone else sees this issue. It’s maddening! This is a re-occurring bug that comes and goes between betas and releases. I’m on the latest release...

Anyways, I hit post by accident and then got sidetracked and never got back to typing my post. o_O

My only comment (complaint?) on these hubs is I would be worried about accidentally damaging the port on my iPad. You’ve got a lot of leverage area for such a small port. A short cable makes much more sense. Also, I don’t know if it’s just a limitation of the chip in the hub or not possible but how come none of these hubs have 4k60p support? Not even Apple’s does.

I believe a USB-C hub with 4K video at 60Hz only supports USB-2. If the hub has 4K at 30Hz it can support USB 3.

Umm.. Is it just me or could it really do with a lightning port? You know.. The one Apple replaced for the new iPads in question, so anyone who was using their old iPads has loads of specialist dongles for already? That would make it perfect?

I have.. HDMI, Ethernet, Camera connection kit, SD card reader... All as lightning dongles. Would be nice not to have to trash those if I upgrade!

You realise you can get a single hub for around £30 that covers all those uses- you could sell your existing dongles and buy a single replacement with change to spare.

What are you basing this failure on? Clearly they sell, I see people using them at coffee shops etc.

I know several people that use them but aren't really happy with them. They seem like iPads in some regards in terms of usability as a sole computer.

[doublepost=1544680839][/doublepost]iPad Pro is a bit of an oxymoron. I'm not trying to trash the product, but when I think of a professional photographer, video editor, audio engineer, programmer etc, I can't see an iPad working well. Firstly using your fingers instead of a mouse isn't efficient or accurate while doing a lot of work. Mostly though, not being able to connect external drives etc can be a real problem.
I agree. I like my iPad Pro and it is fine for web surfing, emails, writing documents but anything that needs a muse, such as editing PowerPoint/Keynote is frustrating. Touch screens are simply not made for that.

The Surface Pro tablet has, at this point, had nearly 6 years to market and sell to consumers and businesses. In that time it's established only niche market for itself. Is that all that is expected out of the Surface Pro tablet?

These tepid or limited sales point to Apple being correct in continuing to ignore criticism that their iPad should work with external HDD, wired keyboards, or 'Logitech' mice. (as was the desire of the person who I replied to) That's not to say that this opinion on the need of that functionality is invalid or wrong - just that it has very limited market appeal. As such this USB-C connector hub from Satechi isn't addressing or fixing some critical oversight from Apple. It's just try to sell to a nice market of iPad owner needs.

If as you state you're a "professional photographer, video editor, audio engineer, programmer etc" then you use the correct tool for doing such: a desktop workstation or laptop computer with the necessary connectors you need. A tablet that *can* do such tasks, or doesn't have the limitations Apple has put in place, has only very tepidly sold. It's failed to prove that there is the market for it.

Hmm I totally forgot about that. Seems like a total design fail for the usb consortium as this is going to be usb’s future for the next decade plus.

Here’s my issue. I absolutely get the HDMI port for an external display.

What’s the point of a USB A port? Keyboard is the example above, but I think most folks would use Bluetooth or a smart keyboard accessory.

What else would you use the USB A port for? can’t hook up a mouse.

Point being while a dock is a cool feature, how useful is it for anything other than a display?

It really just depends on need or application. The USB-A actually is handy for some of the musical devices that can be connected to the iPads (older musical equipment that doesn't use USB-C or Lightening). But really outside the example they had, and the musical items, I can't see a whole lot of use for it.

I purchased one for a few of the applications i would use it for, but at best this is really just a bandaid to get me really over the hurdle until everything goes USB-C anyhow... lol I will admit the chorded keyboard to me seemed a little dated for showing off the hub :D

My desktop microphone and my midi interface both plug into USB A.. (and both work nicely on my old iPad Pro with camera connector kit.)

It’s a handy port to have if you have amassed generic dongles too. Like, lots of people have USB-A SDcard readers, etc.

I received my Satechi hub on Friday, and unfortunately the head phone jack isn’t working on it. I tried 3 different headphones and get no sound with any of them. If I wiggle the headphone I hear some static, so it must have a short in the jack. The other ports work as expected. Satechi will be sending me out a replacement.

My Satechi USB C Hub for iPad Pro arrived today. Works well. No SD Card slot is not an issue for me. I have bought 30 pin SD Card Adapter and a Lightening SD Card adapter. Barely used either one of them. So don't think I will miss it.

As a bonus, it also works on my MacBook Pro. Power passes through to charge the MacBook and HDMI worked just fine.

As a follow up to this, I contact Satechi and they shipped me out a replacement which works perfectly.
