According to many of the gurus around here, no one needs more than 128gb storage.

Hundred of milions of people will do fine with 128Gb of storage on a phone if they use and pay for cloud services.

I'm using less than 57Gb on my phone. And yes I have about 150Gb of photos in iCloud Photo Library.

I love Apple’s focus on privacy with AI, unlike the other options that harvest so much intimate info about users. 7 GB is nothing. One can also delete built-in apps to save even more space. Delete Messages, Photos, etc and stop using those features and save tons of space! Would that make any sense?

Keep marching towards the future and use the technology you’ve already paid for!!

that headline is just as click-baity and misleading as this one was
Agreed. They really spun the headline for that one.

For those that can't be bothered to read the article (or the original article), it states:
... 73% of iPhone owners and 87% of Samsung owners claim new AI features "add little to no value" to their phone experiences.

How does that even translate into "73% of iPhone Owners Say 'No Thanks' to Apple Intelligence"? One can think AI adds little to no value, but still be willing to use it. I'm probably in that camp. I have Apple Intelligence turned on. Do I find it super valuable? Not really. Do I want to turn it off because of that? No, some features are nice.

And why did they leave Samsung out of the headline? I mean, if their narrative was truly about no one wanting artificial intelligence, wouldn't 87% have been a better number to use? Gotta love sensationalism.

I’d bet most of these people already use AI and didn’t even noticed it.

Why buy a bit of storage when you can rent it in perpetuity instead (while handing over all your data)? :p

It does highlight why they use such small base storage -- either pay several times market value for more storage, or pay us to do it every month. All about ever-increasing revenues.

This isn’t directed at you, but figure it’s as good of a place to bring it up as any.

I often see people blaming Tim Cook for the cost of upgrading Mac/phone storage and I laugh because people have been complaining about the cost of Apple’s storage/RAM upgrades for over twenty years now. I came across this thread a few days ago - from 2005:

Steve is rolling in his… oh wait 🤣

I realize you were going for the humorous "shot", but the situation isn't the same

Back then you could source and install your own RAM on the machines, so Apple charging whatever they did made no difference

I really wish we could all attempt to spend less time trying to "score points" on "the other guys" on the forum
I include myself in this

It's a bit of a 2025 resolution of mine -- to try to make online dialogue a little bit more kind and fun and forgiving

Honestly wasn’t trying to score points but see how it could come off that way. Here’s to better dialogue in 2025!

I'm not anti-AI, but I'm not really using any Apple Intelligence features directly. Tried out Image Playground and Genmoji (both work the same way), and they are far toooooo slow to be useful on my M1 Air. Pretty accurate results, though.

As for writing tools, I just don't want my computer rewriting my carefully-crafted text.

And for re/search, I'll probably start using the built-in ChatGPT support more as time goes on, especially since Google is becoming one big banner-ad billboard with every search.

As I mentioned in post #9 (see pic), Cleanup still works with Apple Intelligence turned off.

Which app are you using? I have the Affinity Suite but it's kind of cumbersome at times for this type of stuff.

7 GB per device. As others have said, the title was kind of clickbaity.
It's kinda of sad the cleanup feature wasn't made available on previous devices since it doesn't need apple intelligence .. I'd rly like to have it on my 13 pro

Good to know about this. With more features coming hopefully in the next version of iOS, this is going to only increase. But I see no reason to disable Apple Intelligence. Better to purchase an iPhone with 256GB storage at least.

The only one I really care about is the "clean up" in photos, but I have an app that does a much better job of fixing photos than this, so it's all kind of pointless to me. Genmoji is fun but you can't really use them anywhere but Messages.
You don’t lose clean up when turning off AI, I did this and the tool still works.

So turning off AI on an iOS device will mean the space is not reclaimed untilthe device is filling up and storage space is required......

However, has anyone disabled it on a Mac?
Is it the same or is the storage space reclaimed straight away?

7 GB is nothing. And no it wasn't enabled by default. I had it off in 15.2 and off it remains in 15.3.
Interesting. My Mac 👇 came with 15.2 and with Apple Intelligence disabled. However, when I upgraded to 15.3 yesterday Apple Intelligence had been enabled. Thankfully, it's easy to disable. Just spitballing here (hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will see this), but was that due to the fact I started with 15.2? 🤷‍♂️

My top 3 apps cache take up more space than Apple intelligence, I wish being able to delete an apps cache was universal like it is on android. I periodically delete apps and redownload to get them back to their original size.
If you have the space why bother to do this? What actual difference does it make?

I bought a pick up truck last month, but i always make sure im carrying nothing in it so i have lots of space to carry things. But as soon as i carry something i take it out again. Cant have any of that space getting used for putting things in no sir-ree.

Because I don’t think apps like Twitter or Discord should be taking up literally 15-20GB each.

Convinced that Apple Intelligence is just I.N.T.E.L.L.I.G.E.N.C.E. repurposed.

Also caps lock on iPhone is really not caps lock. Reverts to lower case every time when selecting ‘123’ - and then when in numbers mode on the keyboard, tapping the all caps ‘ABC’ take you to lowercase keyboard.

Oh Apple, how far you have fallen from the SJ tree.
