7 GB is nothing. And no it wasn't enabled by default. I had it off in 15.2 and off it remains in 15.3.
I mean I guess but they went full clickbait on the headline and got called out for it. But I guess the bar is set low for journalism anymore...Can't we just be happy they responded to feedback and made a correct edit?
I’m impressed you still have that much faith in MR when half their “stories” these days are just ads for third party products where they make money from the referral links inside.I mean I guess but they went full clickbait on the headline and got called out for it. 7GB is a lot of bloat. Especially true with Apple devices which has no SD slot for storage upgrade.7 GB is nothing. And no it wasn't enabled by default. I had it off in 15.2 and off it remains in 15.3.
It is very unprofessional that Apple has it automatically enabled by default.
Why Apple makes AI an all-or-nothing thing is insane. There are a few features that I could find helpful, but why can't I just toggle them instead of EVERYTHING? (I know, I know, they want to showcase the 'awesome power' of AI to users)
It's like how they force you to go thru each app to turn off Siri Learning -- because they "give you control over your privacy" ... what they don't say is they don't make it convenient to do, thus forcing users into friction that discourages them from turning it all off. (Simple and convenient are not the same thing!)
No, I think it’s pretty clear the overwhelming majority of Apple users do NOT want AI on their devices:Would love it if they got enough pushback from consumers (or they saw from their own data that users were switching it off immediately) that they make it opt-in in future updates.
I know Apple, like all the tech companies, wants everyone to hop aboard the AI train. But if there are enough consumers who don't want it (I have no idea, maybe most consumers do want it), then having the feature be opt-in makes sense. Especially because Apple's method requires taking up space on the device in a way that other methods don't.
Why care about cache? The data is deleted automatically if more data needs to be stored. My top 3 apps cache take up more space than Apple intelligence, I wish being able to delete an apps cache was universal like it is on android. I periodically delete apps and redownload to get them back to their original size.

It waits until space is needed to remove stuff like this.If I turn Apple intelligence off do I get that storage back immediately? Or do I have to wait for my device to fill up and realize that this AI dedicated storage is free to be used?
Most likely due to either ignorance or misinformation. yet, many probably already carelessly use ChatGPT.No, I think it’s pretty clear the overwhelming majority of Apple users do NOT want AI on their devices:

Same is if you enable storage management. Then full size images that are on iCloud are removed only if space is needed.
Likely we will hear from people here that "Siri is so dumb" and then in the next sentence "I disabled the AI garbage to reclaim 7GB".
Because I don’t like the idea of simple apps bloating up that much. The very first time I noticed, Twitter was 20GB+ in size. Discord was right behind it at 15GB+. Considering the base app was only 100-200MB it sounds ridiculous. On my previous iPhone with less storage than my current, it showed as 90% full. If I can’t gauge how much space my device truly has free then it’s not a very user friendly experience. Why care about cache? The data is deleted automatically if more data needs to be stored.
But 7GB out of 64GB or even 128GB is quite a bit. If 73 percent of iPhone users say they don’t want AI, why should they have to deal with a hit on storage?7GB out of 512 GB is barely anything at all.
Also, why disable Apple Intelligence if it’s works great for what I need it? (Primarily proofread text).
That’s right… if the answer isn’t what YOU want, clearly others are confused. Got it.Most likely due to either ignorance or misinformation. yet, many probably already carelessly use ChatGPT.
This will not be possible. But apple definitely needs to work on trimming the size of AI down.
