GPS Fix problem

Thanks Eaglesteves for this extensive search

As a matter of fact, I restores my 3G, then got good fix after a few minutes. I Jailbreaked it again with BlackSnow, and signal was already blurred.
Since signal is randomely accurate...
Other short term solution is a BT GPS module with RoqyGPS application (on Cydia in Europe, 8€) with a good performance for marginal cost. I use it on another iPhone (V1)

This GPS problem may be due to 3.1.2, but does not occur on all iPhones.. Bad news as solution from Apple may not arise if problem is not massive

Yes, so your experience once again confirms my findings.

You might be right when you said it is due to 3.1.2 or at least the problem is more severe with 3.1.2. That I can't tell for sure unless I have a chance to go back to the previous firmware to re-carry out the test and observe/record my findings over say a 1 month period, alternating between JB and non-JB again. However, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the firmware, and nothing to do with the hardware. The fact that it is always 100% perfect immediately after a fresh full restore or firmware update shows that. I think the firmware must be either accumulating something or corrupting something as it goes alone. Pretty much like a PC getting slower and slower as you use it and to regain the speed you have to reformat the PC and reinstall the OS once a while. A really really good OS/firmware should not require full restore to clean this up periodically. My old Nokia basic phone might be basic, but the OS needs never any rebooting or restore.

I have a good news for everybody.

It is confirmed that jaibreak seriously damage the GPS signal. There is also a fixed for that. You need to install a program called "Push Fix" after adding a repo http://apt.macosmovil.com in Cydia.

Now my GPS is always getting signal in less than a minutes, even inside my house. Strong signal too. However, TomTom car kit will still boost it up even further.

Could also be Backgrounder/ProSwitcher

I have also had the problem with my GPS failing to lock. After deleting SBSettings, it would work fine, and would not degrade. I think however that I found the conflict:

I also had Backgrounder and ProSwitcher installed. If I deleted these (never really used them), my GPS would like just like normal. I have since reinstalled SBSettings, and for the last week, my GPS has been perfect.

Do any of you also have Backgrounder and ProSwitcher installed? That may be the problem.

Also - this is on a 3Gs 3.1.2 broken with Pwnage Tool

You forgot to say that the Blackra1n jailbreak tool is what is impairing the GPS functionality.

OH, for Pete's sake...

Did you not read the OP's post where he explicitly said that he used both blackra1n and PwnageTool, and he had the same problem with both? (Not to mention several people who claim that it eventually degrades after restoring to official firmware and then NOT jailbreaking, but that it just doesn't degrade as quickly.)

Other than this ;) I found this thread to be an interesting read. I am convinced that my 3GS has been "less accurate" than my 3G since I got it, when it was running 3.0, and this was before I even jailbroke it. A co-worker who bought his at the same time has also observed the same thing. The "blue dot" on my 3G would stay on the road most of the time, but the 3GS dot likes to "wander." I have also had occasions where the phone would either simply not acquire a lock, and would only show me my cellular-triangulated "estimated" position for a while, or would place me on the map as being in completely the wrong area (there is one spot in my town where it almost seems to be consistently reproducible...you go there, bring up Maps, and the phone claims I'm somewhere 100 miles or so to the west).

I think it's a 3GS-specific issue, and I'm really hoping that it's somewhere in software, and that it eventually gets fixed.

I have to admit, though, that I've never had it degrade to such a state where, as with other people who have posted here, it would refuse to ever work again unless I wiped and reloaded the OS. It will get wonky for a while, but after some time (perhaps after I've tried to stop using it for a few days), it will start working again. It's the darnedest thing.

And for the record, my personal 3GS has never been jailbroken with blackra1n. Not that I think it matters or has any real bearing.

Sheesh,

I'm unlocked with sbsettings installed (all toggles off except bluetooth/wifi).

2 iPhones:

1. 3GS: Happens a few times a week (loses GPS signal)
2. 3G: NEVER EVER gets GPS signal. (However, I just drove cross country and when I was out of my usual area, it worked sporatically here and there. But NEVER works at home...)

Very weird... Running 3.1.2 unlocked on T-Mobile on both phones. Same setup on both

So I uninstalled SBSettings, Backgrounder and ProSwitcher and nothing is working. I have spent a great deal of time and some money in jailbreaking my phone (MyWi and a few other things apps) and I am about to restore it. I use RunKeeper to track my running with GPS a lot and recently my GPS has been crap. It never locks on and sometimes doesn't even know where I am. A few times it says I am a half a mile away. I dont get it.

Hi,

I'm experiencing very similar problems on iPhone 3G 3.1.2

Just restored, had perfect reception - JB and installed some apps and same problems occured.

Tried that pushfix and nothing happened.

Going to try SBSettings deletion next.

I just upgraded to 3.1.3 and still the same problem, I'm going to try a restore and jailbreak with sn0wbreeze.

Has anyone experienced the problem using 3.1.3?

I even did a fresh restore (to 3.1.3) and it didn't help...Really not sure whats going on now :S
