they don't care for credit. right, but how do they establish good enough credit to qualify for next? doesn't make sense.

even if they are stealing identities it doesn't make sense. ATT/Verizon don't just hand out phones to anyone.

i've seen 18 year olds with one credit card able to subsidize several iPhones

We settled on $50 refund but figured its better than risking him getting a full refund and me receiving an empty box and get shafted completely.
So took the loss and got $250 instead of $300 for a used good condition 16GB i5.
The worst thing is anyone can pull that scam and as soon as they open the case the money is frozen, they have your item and you by the balls and they call the shots.
They can say there's a scuff on the corner, the button feels loose, the power button sticks or whatever bs excuse and exagerate it to get the item way cheaper or send back an old tv remote to the seller and keep your money and the phone.
Bad experience that really makes me not want to sell anything on eBay again. Not sure if its worth the hassle and aggregation.

In my experience, I have had this happen twice. And both times I have won.

You have to document, document, document.

----------

I sold my white 16gb ip4s on launch night (one week auction that ended launch night). It went for $335, which netted me 288.

It's on the vehicle for delivery today. We'll see.

I signed up for the Verizon Edge program for the 5S (yes we can debate whether it's a ripoff or not later), and even though I am already a Verizon wireless customer with another subsidized line, Verizon.com still asked for DL and ran the credit again for the Edge program.

How often do you sell on eBay. IME, eBay will side with the seller more often if you have made them (ebay) money in the past. I had issues with people trying to screw me when my feedback rating was low. Now that I have over 600 feedbacks, eBay virtually sides with me no matter what.

I am curious though, what are you doing when you document what you have shipped? Are you videotaping yourself package and ship the item? It may sound ridiculous, but I have done that on some higher value items, mostly for the peace of mind (have never had to use it). The real issue is you, as the seller, can ship virtually anything to the buyer and the buyer can ship virtually anything back to you.

I absolutely am.

I am also documenting serial numbers, take detailed photos, and generally just poke holes in the buyer's BS.

For instance. A woman bought an OEM car stereo I was selling. She claimed that when she got it, it was damaged in shipment but she paid to have it installed anyway and now a CD was stuck in it and that she wanted to return it.

I pointed out that I had the serial number and would not accept her broken stereo back in lieu of my stereo (even though my auction clearly stated no returns, ebay always lets the buyer return crap). Either I called her bluff correctly, or I don't know what, but that was the last I heard of the case.

Another time I sold rims to a buyer and he received them and claimed they were not as represented. Ebay simply ruled in my favor on that one.

I don't sell any more than the average joe, but when I do, I make sure to take good photos, video tape that electronics function as promised prior to shipping, and I video tape the shipping process including the tracking number. I have yet to lose a case as a seller.

I have sold multiple iphones on ebay now and not once has someone tried to scam me. I don't welcome the first one, but if it happens, I will be ready.

I documented it and put up like 8-10 pictures from every angle of the phone that shows the minor wear and tear.
He came out exaggerating saying there's huge damage and that the scratches are deep. I told him I described everything and did you even look at the pictures? This is a year old used iPhone with normal wear and tear and sold as is with no returns. Its not sold as brand new.
I guess I Just had bad luck and got stuck with a fraudulent buyer.

First of, to get multiple iphones you must have good credit. Now a person with good credit willing to destroy it over a few hundred dollars is strange. Very few people will do this.

I sell a lot of phones of ebay and have had one guy say the item was not as described and opened a case. It was a 5 with bad imei. I stated that in the auction. He emailed me that it did not work with his carrier, Telus. I however won the case.

The people who do this are using identity theft. They're not destroying their credit. They're destroying someone else's.

They can do this multiple times.

This has happened to a co-worker. Had his identity stolen and someone went into a verizon store and open a new acct with 5 lines with 5 iPhones.

Crazy.

These people can so this over and over again.

sucks, bro.

Thats why i sold my 32gb verizon iphone 5 to Gazelle for $340. Even if i could sell it for $450 on ebay, take 12% off you owe ebay and you are down to about $400 profit unless someone tries to scam you. Plus with Gazelle you can keep the cable and charger from your iphone and it doesn't affect price. So that's another $38 if you bought from Apple.

You should have sold it to BuyBackWorld. Their prices are always higher than gazelle and they don't care about the accessories either.

What kind of feedback did he have? I usually state on my auctions if they have less than 15 transactions not to bid, if they do they get blocked.

He had about 120 positive feedback with no negatives but he was mostly selling stuff. Not that many purchases.
He was pretty experienced and knew how and what to do in order to get the item way cheaper than the agreed price. Without even contacting me at all he opened a case with ebay so then funds got frozen and then I had to play into his little game and agree on his terms to get my money.
And even worst is I cant leave negative feedback to a buyer to let others know about his scam.

I checked both before I selected Gazelle. They were within $5 of each other. I have also sold several items to Gazelle and always got the quoted price.

You can't leave negative feedback but... You can put something like "warning scammer" or what ever in the feed back just so people see it.

ebay should really bring back the power for buyers to leave negative feedback though

would think that would raise a red flag.

Good idea.;)
I'll have to submit it as positive feedback but hope some will read it and protect themselves.

I've done this before....Got me in trouble with eBay and the feedback removed. They have a rule against negative feedback being left like that.

What I do do, is look at feedback a buyer has left for sellers...Usually a jerk will post crap about sellers. I then block them.

Don't know if this has been posted already, but regardless of credit you cannot do Next with a brand new account. Account has to be in good standing for at least 90 days AND have decent enough "Credit" (bill payed on time, not much in collections as far as Equifax is concerned) to start this program. And the thing isn't even 3 months old yet.

So tell me... Who would ruin their good standing with AT&T just to make a quick couple of hundred bucks? Not post-paid customers. Druggies (besides those who like contract free) are the only ones I could think of and they usually shop on the Go-Phone wall.

This is why I never buy anything from craigslist or eBay.
I only use it to sell.
