I'm hoping to sell my current laptop and that's the only instance where I can afford the MBP purchase. As for a new imac--I do some graphic design work and I can't deal with the glossy screens on the new macs, so I need the previous generations. Portability isn't really something that is a must, but it's nice to be able to unplug my laptop and take it downstairs or to a friends house.

What type of GFX work do you do? If it’s low end stuff then I doubt it would make a huge difference, also I'm sure I’ve read that you can calibrate the monitor to make things look right/better

well since you changed it, here's my thoughts.

Sell the HP and buy a MBP. Having two computers is a pain in the ass, I've done it. You always have to sync files and **** and its just a pain.

Plus once you get a Mac you're going to wonder why Windows sucks so much and you're just going to use the mac all the time.

So sell the HP, get the MBP and boot camp it in case you want to play a game or something.

I think that is what I am going to do-sell the hp laptop and get a mbp, I have an extra copy of windows xp laying around that i bought last year because of bootcamp, so i can do that if something i need is totally windows reliant.

anybody got a mbp they want to sell?

Alright well I took the plunge!

Ordered the $1699 MBP from Apple refurb.

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
15.4-inch widescreen display
2GB memory
120GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB of GDDR3 memory
Built-in iSight Camera

So this is already a LOADED machine and I get the matte screen and LED for great battery life. Can't wait until it comes. I am in the process of selling my dv6000t. It's on ebay now.

Anything I should know about this MBP?

Until something breaks and then what? You wait until it gets fixed. Synching may be a pain, but it means you have a back up ready to roll if the worst comes to the worst.

Well there's a difference if you have two main computers or one main computer and an old backup ready to go in case you have a problem with your primary computer. In this case he would have ended up with two main computers. If he needs a backup he could always pick up a cheap old laptop.

thanks for advice everyone. the mac is on its way and should be here by wednesday. can't wait.

anything else i should know about the mbp? I've been to macworld, macnn, etc. to find out more about the machine. Any other good site that has a lot of MBP reviews/test results?
