Hey,

I was able to pick up a iPhone 7 Plus at my local apple store today and my final decision was to go with Jet black, I have a matte black on order but going to cancel it tomorrow as I don't need it now, anyway I take my phone out of the box and put it in a white apple silicone case and took it out about 5 minutes later to admire the back and there are some scratches on it, I never even touched it and it scratched is this normal with the JB iPhone 7P?

It's a phone, get over it.

You bought a model that is scratchable. They warned you. You put on a used case probably without rinsing it. Perhaps they wont notice

Way to generalize people my man,

I've had an iPhone since the 3G and I clearly remember this "new finish" being very easy to scratch. It's nothing new to me and many others, and I'm not OCD. ;)
Please any time spent on Apple forums show this "generalization" to be very evident. Or is that a trigger word for you?

lol who cares
Would you if it was your's Of course not :)

That's your opinion, again stick around and you'll see.
You haven't lurked long enough:)

I agree with you. It's not just on this forum. I work for Best Buy and iPhone users are the most dreaded customers. I have many android user coworkers and they always give me a hard time about it telling me I'm one of them lol! And it's not only about the look of their phones, but other things, too.

For instance, this year just after 10 minutes of the iPhone being announced customers were calling to find out, when we would have them in stock, what the preorder process will be like be like, and some of them even asking if we had them in stock already (I'm not kidding!) then when the phone is actually out, we always have a line outside, and then we have to let them know we have to open the box cuz some customers get mad if we open it, if we take the plastic off, if I leave fingerprint behind, etc. I'm not saying all of them are like that, but a large amount of people are, and we hate it!!!! Cuz we don't experience anything like that with any other phone release.

So after working at BBY for over 4 years and experiencing 4 iPhone releases, I agree with your statement. I'm also one of them lol. I love opening the box myself, that's why I have it ship to my house, and I can't stand scratches on my iPhone!

People wanting to keep their products in pristine condition isn't something only Apple users do.

This forum doesn't have over 1,000,000 members, you're telling me what you see on a forum dictates what EVERY person who owns an iPhone opinions/thoughts are?

Get real.

Also remembering that the Macrumours forums are largely a gripe site, where people go to whinge, complain, criticise and hate on Apple and their products.

It only take the smallest bit of grit of debris. Some case are famous for allowing junk to get between the case and the phone and abrade the anodized finish quickly.
Totally understand and agree. But the question was about the Apple branded cases themselves.

it was unsealed like 2 mins before i put the phone in it
Did you wipe it before you put the case on? I would venture to say this is a likely time to scratch a glossy object.

I've scratched mine too. I was trying to put it on the lightning dock in bed and I couldn't line it up properly. It slipped inside my Apple Silicone case and the bottom antenna line got slightly scuffed.

It's not too bad but there is nothing I can do about it. It's in a case so you can't see it anyway. I've got a clear spigen case on it now and you can't even see it in there.

It's just my OCD.

Buying a Jet Black and then putting it in a case.... I will never understand it.

Because people put their phones in cases, period. Next time you see a crowd of people, look around. I challenge you to find anyone using their phone without a case. You'll have a hard time, 1 in 50, maybe?

Why should jet black owners be different? If you say Jet black is too beautiful, does that mean all the other colours and models are ugly enough to be covered up?

As I use a very thin Seidio Surface case on my iPhones, the more important thing to me is the bezels be black.

It does seem counter productive to be so proud of your phone color and what it looks like that you go for the JB when it will, for sure, get scratched and drive you nutso_O.

This is why I have the leather Apple case for all my phones. Don't see the back, don't give a rat's ass about scratches.

Why did Apple do this to people?
iPhone users are the most OCD and anal retentive customers out there.
Putting something out there that will show scratches even if you look at it the wrong way is just wrong:D
Some people will lose their mind and will want to get a brand new jet black replacement every other day:D
Actually, it seems to be mostly people that frequent forums like this that are that worried about scratches and the like. I have many friends with iPhones that chuck them around like they couldn't care less, and the phones look like it.

I guess it all has to do at what type of crowds you look at. I have never worn a case and about half of my friends and colleagues do not wear cases. Only my female friends and female colleagues are almost certain to wear a case (because they put it in their purse/bag with many other things that could scratch it), but with the guys almost all have their iPhone naked. So no, I don't have a hard time finding people without cases. Since the upgrade to the thicker case material of the 6S and 7, they will look great for years. There is no need for a case, only maybe if you drop your phone often or work in a rugged environment.

Getting the Jet Black is the worst model to get if you are using a case, because it's so scratch prone that a case might actually do it more damage then getting the regular Black one. That's why I mentioned the Jet Black specifically as an in my opinion strange choice if you are using a case, as tiny things will always get in between your phone and case.

That was my point too. Like some people have already mentioned, cases can actually scratch your phone because even small dust particles between the case and phone will do it more damage then not wearing a case. That's why getting a Jet Black and using a case doesn't make sense to me. Best to get the regular Black one in that situation.

My JB 7+ came scratched out of the box. I would have returned it to target but they don't have anymore so I have been dealing with apple for an exchange. The process has been miserable. At one point, a senior advisor told me that Apple cannot guarantee that scratches will not occur during shipping and would not warrant a phone scratched out of the box. My replacement was even scratched out of the box but at this point, I've decided to just live with it. Too much hassle; too many different stories from Apple advisors.

Went in to apple told them I wasn't happy and they gave me a full refund, keeping my matte black order now it looked really good in the shop compared to the jet black which was just too smudgy to even admire.
