AG - never knew MBA had a glossy screen without the glass...

Reflections
Thus easier on the eye
Colours not so bright

.....please for the love of god make a locked sticky giving the exact advantages and disadvantages of choosing;

Anti Glare
or
Glossy

I do not think I can take reading another damn thread that repeats the same thing over and over.

Seeing as the OP's thread title gives pretty good indication regarding the topic of the thread, you easily could have avoided reading it if glossy vs anti-glare discussions bother you so much.

Retract those 'lion' claws, :)

I have the 15 pro with the glossy screen. My office is dark and there are no windows behind me....does not bother me at all. I do wish i had the hi-res screen though, but i am hooked up to my ACD at work all day in clamshell mode so it is not an issue....just at home when i don't have my nice screen.

There are pros and cons to both:

Glossy:

Pros-
1. Glass is scratch resistant and more chemical resistant
2. Colors (at least to my eye) are more brilliant
3. Glossy display has a more distinctive look
Cons-
1. Highly reflective surface
2. Sometimes brightness must be increased to counteract reflections, thereby reducing battery life
3. Working outdoors can be difficult with reflections

Anti-Glare:
Pros-
1. Reduced reflections provides greater comfort in many conditions
2. Screen brightness can be reduced, thereby increasing battery life
Cons-
1. Screen is not particularly scratch resistant, and plastics are susceptible to chemical damage from cleaning materials, perfumes or hair products.
2. Colors seem to not be as brilliant, but this might be resolved with calibration

Anti-GlareFilm Is A Viable Option...

I wanted to love the 11" MBA but the display gave me a headache within 15 minutes and eyestrain that lasted for hours...

It isn't due to the glossy screen; it's the sub-par LED backlit displays that Apple is using in all its current portable Macs. My 15" MBP, which was the last model before the unibody design and which has an anti-glare LED-backlit display does not cause me any problems.

I went with a 13" MBP. And while the LED display is also problematic for me, I have been able to make it work by applying some calibration settings that I found on the Apple forums and by adding a Power Support anti-glare film.

The anti-glare film solves the reflection problems nicely. I am able to use my MBP outside and in environments where the glossy display would be difficult to see. When I compare my 13" and 15" displays side-by-side they are very similar in quality. I minimized dust problems when installing the film by doing so as soon as I opened the new MBP.

I also use the same film on my iPad. It really improves the quality of the display.

This is what puzzles me
When I looked side by side on both screens with the same content i really could not tell the difference in colors and clarity
I did noticed a very-very tiny difference in color temperature when it was displaying white web page
It felt a bit warmer on AG

I was hoping to get more answers from Photographers and alike to get a sense of what people think about PQ on these new 17'' screens

I don't know why people say that either, the hi-res anti glare is extreme sharp and yet smooth and natural looking. There's barely any difference, except for like you said AG is a tad "warmer" looking which I prefer. I don't know why Apple doesn't offer AG on the 13" Pro... only thing I can think of is to force you to upgrade to the 15/17 if you want it

The ones I know with AG models are in graphic design, wedding photographer etc. All prefer the AG, some had the glossy and sold to get the AG version previously.

Can an antiglare MBP be bought in store?

Yes,
Also a few big retailer stores have them in stock

However, it's about 200-300 cheaper to buy glossy even though AG is 50-dollar option
"Default" spec MBP with glossy screen goes at $2299 in many authorized retailers, while "default" AG version jumps to Apple-store price of 2500.

So, you cannot get the same discount on AG models...
Sucks!

I'm from the UK, a 17" glossy MBP costs 2,099 pounds, how much would the antiglare cost?

I can't decide what to buy, glossy or anti glare for my next MBP.
