The thing is, you didn't bring your laptop to Apple and didn't show them your broken screen before repairing it yourself, did you? That's the point, if they have it in the system that you had it broken, no info about repairing it and then they'll see the same laptop in their service already fixed - it will be obvious. I'am not saying that it's not worth a shot for OP (it certainly is, although I would bring it in for USB repair BEFORE replacing the screen, like someone else said here before), I'am just saying that what happened to you is not even remotely similar to OP's story.

I just took it in, did not submit it to APPLE....i got it repaired elsewhere...will they still have any record that it was broken?
Does the guy really with it up that it was broken even though all I asked was how much will it cost to repair it..but I did give him my serial number !
 
Plug in an external monitor. Ensure that your mac works as it should. Take it to Apple for the USB repair. Decline their offer of a new screen & upper case. Plug the external monitor back in to ensure that your repaired USB works. Have the used replacement screen & case put on the system. Do not take your laptop to bed with you. Enjoy.
