Not necessarily true. A phone can be bent without signs of scuffs. A thin case that provides no (very little) structural integrity might keep scuffs at bay but not bends. A bent chassis won't necessarily immediately exhibit cracking in the screen.

I'm not playing the blame game. I don't know that the OP bent or even if it is bent. The reality is, particularly since its out of warranty, Apple doesn't really owe anyone anything in terms of manufacturers defects, especially if there is a possibility of end user abuse or misuse of the device.

Do I believe this particular model bends much easier then it should? Yeah, I actually do. I was pretty vocal about it in the months after the phone launched. My opinion is mostly irrelevant though. We are discussing Apple's grounds for denying free repair.
Off topic but I love love your signature.

So why can't you bend it back straight? Buy a ruler and check yourself.

Yes, get it straight as you can and either take it to another apple store or call applecare. I would be curious to know how easy it would be to straighten it out.

Their response was that it is only a manufacturing defect within a certain set tolerance.

As a side note I would measure a new phone when I get it. They it is not within tolerances, which you stated is slight. That means they have tolerances for phones coming from the factory bent but to a certain point, who's to say some can't be slightly past that point?

I got approved for a 6 plus through the iphone upgrade problem and may get one in the next month or tow. I will definitely measure it when I get it just to be on the safe side.

Just a quick update. Went back to apple yesterday to get the screen replaced as it became unusable and the genius did a diagnostics test which said I was getting lots of temperature warnings. Therefore they decided to swap it for a new phone for free (even though it's out of warranty) :)

Also to those people who were saying it was my fault, Apple made the right decision etc etc. Well it turns out the reason they were willing to swap the screen for free was because the crack inside was classed as a defect under consumer law. The genius also said that each customer is entitled to make one claim under this law per iPhone which allows them to get the free repair.

Obviously the reason I was hesitant about this was because they said my phone was bent as well which wasn't covered and that I would have to pay for a new one if it didn't go on but it turned out it didn't matter in the end anyway.

Like I said you just needed to go to the apple store again and get a different genius

They do not make notes if you were just at the Genius bar. The only time they make notes if your phone is sent back to be repaired. If it was sent back to be repaired the only note it will say is what it was sent in to be repaired and if the repair was rejected or not. The notes are not descriptive saying why it was rejected. Try another Genius. I found that if my first appointment doesn't go well the second goes better. It really just depends on the Genius member. When you go in don't mention a thing about your last visit.

Yep you were right. I wish all stores and its employees would operate the same way. Would create a lot less inconvenience for its customers.
