The experiences how the geniuses and other Apple store employees handle this issue is very different, I made these experiences myself. The only option for sure is to buy the phone at the Apple store. If it has the issue (or another one) just return it within the 14 days and buy a new one (maybe you cant do this anymore now, but it's my recommandation for any future buy). Unfortunately this issue is very widespread and even some iPad Air and Mini Retina are affected.

Wide spread is 50 percent. Nobody I know that has an iPhone has this "issue". I'm not saying people don't perceive something, but the internet tends to blow things out of proportion and leave people in a hypersensitive state.

Maybe, maybe not. I checked around 50 iPhones. So far I found 7 iPhone 5s/5c without the issue (yes I counted them).

On some phones they are less visible than on others. And some people get botherrd by it faster than others. But that doesnt mean the issue isnt real and that the display is fine with these lines.

I've had 4 iphone 5s all had screen interlacing and 3/4 rattled. Just dont have the energy to return and reorder forever, so I kept a rattling/interlacing 5s

Reread my post, the second phone I was referring to.

You made a generalised comment, try making it clear next time. Your reply read as that of a skim reader and regardless, I already mentioned that he admitted seeing it first time so your question was rather pointless.

It's all irrelevant now. That's two phones with different serial (D and now F) which have it. I've no issue with the white balance or colours, the screen is beautiful apart from these very fine scan lines which I see on grey or blue backgrounds. I'll just hold the phone a little further from my face!

No. Okay I can be pejorative as well. You didn't read my post closely.

1 You get a phone. Adam sees scan lines and replaces it.
2. You see scan lines on second phone. Big fat guy says: "I don't see scan lines, Adam says same".

Hyper-sensitivity?

No, you've read it wrong. Adam told his supervisor he didn't see the lines on the FIRST phone, he never looked at the second one. He claimed he didn't see them on the first when quizzed upon my return with the replacement. In other words he backtracked. You've assumed he said he couldn't see them on the second phone when he didn't look at it.

Sitting here with my phone and my wife's phone. Same background, same OS, same brightness. Hers has no scan lines.

I'm not being over sensitive, however I'm not going to rampage to different stores for more replacements.

The strategy is to buy and return, buy and return. No exchanges. Do this process ten times until you find one (the success rate is 10%). Of course, if people are fine with the interlacing issue, don't do this. If you don't see it, I envy you. If you do see it but aren't annoyed enough to take action, also fine. But if you want to find a screen without these issues, your odds are about 1 in 10 to find a screen that doesn't have issues. On a $900 phone after tax, it's reasonable. If Apple claims superiority, I see no problems with holding them to their word. Plenty of other companies source screens without these issues, and for less money. So why not Apple as well.

how many units did you go through? I have personal gone through 10 brand new units in the past 2 months and they all exhibit this problem. I just gave up

Likewise, I've just learned to deal with it. They still catch my eye sometimes but I've become so accustomed to them now that I more often than not don't even notice them now.

At least 10 as well. The problem is still widespread and easily noticeable. It bothers me since I see these lines virtually all of the time. There's nothing retina about the screen to me. I estimate < 10% of screens have no scan lines.
