Took these with my iPad Air. Only thing I have to take pics with. Lol Not sure what to make of it.

Yup... looks like you have the lines. I can especially see it in the first photo. Sorry dude. If you don't notice it, then count yourself lucky and just enjoy your phone. Don't go looking for it because it may be one of those "once you see it, you can't unsee it" type of things.

Yeah, I hear ya. I didn't go looking for it. I noticed it a day or so after getting the phone. It looked like I could see the pixels. Then I started noticing "lines" during animations and every so often. I am going to swap it out tomorrow or tonight at Best Buy. Hopefully I will get one that isn't terrible.

I too had this problem with my 5s. I think it was giving me headaches. Finally, after convincing myself I wasn't seeing things, I found this thread, and pulled out a 4s and 5 and checked the sample image on it. No flicker.

I went into an Apple store this weekend to get a replacement. I checked the image on a few phones on display, and they exhibited no flicker. Of course the genius tried to convince me this was a normal refresh, caused by the image, to which my demonstration of the iphone 5, and 4s, and then the 5s units they had out, abated such talk. They replaced my phone, but it was still evident.

Today I loaded the beta of 7.1 and the image no longer flickers and I do not yet see the scan lines as described before. Time will tell, but I am hopeful.

Be curious to see if others with access to 7.1 see a similar correction.

Just got back from Best Buy. My first replacement phone fouled up on restore from iCloud and was stuck. After 45 minutes of trying to reset it and wipe the data, I was able to do that and check the screen. No issues. However, we were swapping it again after that incident for a second one.

Suffice to say, the second replacement is perfect. No issues and it's much easier on my eyes. No flicker or weird lines. Icons are smoother and more vibrant as well. Very happy.

Both phones that were fine started with Serial F2.

Software won't fix it unless for some reason 7.1 adjusts the voltage on the display, but if it did that, then the ones that are good, will get messed up and the ones that are bad will be good.

I mentioned this earlier, but thought it might be worth reiterating. Anyone experiencing this issue should provide feedback here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Getting enough people to speak up is the best option right now.

That said, I have seen examples of this issue in every generation of iPhone since the 3GS, so there is a good chance that fixing the problem may be more technically challenging than it might seem. Though I am only speculating.

In all likelihood we will be seeing this issue next year. And the year after that...

Well, this phone is going back. Rattling power button and the yellow tint on the screen is causing everything to appear washed out. Really getting tired of this stuff. My original phone compared to this second replacement is crazy. First phone was perfect except for the lines on the screen. This phone has a gap in the corner, loose power button and washed out screen. YAY!

Ive owned at least 2 of every incarnation of iPhone, none have ever demonstrated interlacing issues. This thread is bull! People who swap out 5-6 phones clearly the issue is the user. sorry, truth hurts

Yeah no. It's not bull. I can attest to that. It's present and it's annoying to say the least. It gave me headaches.

Well, I've also owned every single iPhone since the 3GS. I had to replace the 4 several times but never experienced interlacing. The 4S was retunred for a refund, because I couldn't justify the upgrade. Before doing so I replaced it due to various issues. Again no interlacing. It wasn't until the 5 that I bumped into this cringeworthy problem. There were so many of them showing those terrible low-res screens. The 5S is the same.
So I wouldn't call this thread BS!
It's a widespread issue and if you were lucky enough not to get one of these, don't be too harsh when others express their frustration.

Swapped out my phone for the last time. I now back to an F1 serial. Screen is back to a nice cool/bright white. Crisp and clean. There is a very faint flicker when testing but no noticeable issues. Nothing nears as bad as my first phone. I happy with the phone.

My new iphone seems to cause my eyes to hurt bad. Could this be the reason why?

I didn't notice a flicker, but I could see what looked like a dithered quality to the screen, making it seem less sharp.

In any case it's being sent back for a very loose power button and dead pixels :/

Damn.

iPhone 3G - perfect
iPhone 4 - perfect
iPhone 4S - perfect
iPad 1st gen. - perfect
iPad 2 - perfect
iPad 3 - Multiple display issues, multiple returns, sold for iPad mini
iPad mini - perfect
iPhone 5 - 1st one damaged, second acceptable

Now this.

I really want to love Apple here, but this is getting irritating.

I'm not a gambler, I don't want to gamble with my money every frikken time!

I'd switch if it weren't for the AppStore investment. Seriously.

The only variable i can see is, all of my iPhones have been launch day phones except the 4. Its just not that widespread. a few hundred posts (if that) on Macrumors doesn't compare to the billions of iPhones sold.

Do you realize how many people don't see it at all or, should I say, don't realize it.
Last year every single iPhone 5 that I saw in possession of my friends had it.
Needless to say, they were not aware of the thing and kept using the phones as usual. Did I bother to explain it to them? No....

Yeah, my brother's iPhone 5 has it and so does his girlfriend's iPhone 5. Theirs are worse than mine, but they've never once mentioned it to me.

Then it is a non-issue really. move on.

My silver 64GB (DN serial) flickers with the test image. The vertical lines are somewhat visible from time to time if looking closely, but it doesn't bother me too much as the display and the rest of the phone is perfect.

What bothers me though, is that when switching apps from the multi tasking screen, the top of the screen flickers for a second right before the app I switch to is maximized. This is especially visible when switching to apps with a colored status bar, like the Facebook app. Anyone else noticing this? Not really sure if it's software related or could have a connection to the display itself (as it flickers with the test image). It does not happen when launching apps from the homescreen, only when launching apps from the multi tasking interface.

Some of you may have heard about the image retention issue with the new retina iPad Minis. If you have the interlacing issue on your current iPhone, would you be willing to run this test to see if you have image retention as well? I'm really just curious to know if the same LCD manufacturer is the source of both of these issues.

Come on guys.. Is the interlacing really this obvious? I never saw it until I opened the test image (it flickered) and then made my iPhone really really close to my eyes. The screen looks beautiful from the normal distance and the colors are amazing.

If you go looking for problems, you'll find some for sure. Just enjoy your devices. :D

Yes it is. My first phone had it really bad before I even knew of the issue and saw this thread. It was annoying. You could see vertical lines on the screen.

Past two replacements, first one had no issues at all except a washed out yellow screen. My final phone I am keeping has MINOR interlacing. I can barely notice it at all. The screen is crisp, bright white. Not exchanging it. The problem does exist and for some, it's much worse than others.

The warning put me off lol. I don't want to mess up my screen just in case. :/

Oh so the issue varies from a device to another. I guess I'm like you. I barely notice it from a close distance and the screen is crisp and bright too (no yellow tints).

Yes, it does vary from device to device. My second replacement did not have it at all. Tested it. However, the screen was yellow and washed out. Whites were not white. It was bad.

My current phone is like yours. I don't even notice it because it's not nearly as bad as my first one. The screen is bright white and crisp.
