That is an impressive level of OCD.

As mentioned though, it is normal. It’s also one of those issues where lots of people will proclaim “mine doesn’t have that” because their eyes can’t see it.

I am confused. The crystal has a slightly raised border all the way around it that seems like part of the design. Is that what people are referring to?

There are very slight marks on the OLED panel that you can only really see at an oblique angle with the right lighting.

The one the OP posted is like a small pinch in the top left region. Others look like larger creases. I have several Apple Watches to hand and they all show it.

Their eyes can't see it because they're not looking for it. And it also depends on the right amount of lighting that would indicate what the OP was stating. Even a Genius employee likely wouldn't be able to determine if that's normal or not just based off looking at it. It would take somebody that truly understands an OLED panel to know that or fully understand why it's embedded in the dislay.

I noticed it too, and believe if you look for it, it’s there on all sapphire displays, thus it’s normal, IMO. Looking at Ion glass displays, they don’t have it. I guess it’s good and bad that we notice these things. At an Apple Store notice that Ion glass display is clearer. Even with the Ion and sapphire side by side, the Apple Specialist couldn’t see it. Found out later on the forum that indeed scientifically Ion glass is clearer than sapphire under some ambient light conditions.

I have this same issue. A lump under the screen in same position as the op. Mine is a normal non sapphire series 3 lte. Is this normal?

It seems others are reporting this as well, I don't think it's a concern, assuming it's not affecting the dislay. Most wouldn't even notice this if they were not looking for it and if it wasn't addressed on a tech site.

It is. If you go to an Apple store and look, they all have it.

I’m not one to nitpick but I’m just wondering if the issue could get worse as time goes along.

I can not see how the “lump” could get bigger. I looked at mine carefully under bright light and turned it in all direction to see and all of a sudden realized that if I am having to look this hard to see . . . . . .

Do you have the lump?

There seems to be mixed views about whether this is a defect or not. Should I return mine for replacement?

I wouldn’t. I, again, went to a different Apple store. All SS and SBSS models had it. Also all ceramic editions. Most aluminum watches also, although they are much harder to identify.
I also had an Apple employee look at his and he had it. He looked very surprised.

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease.

I think it's how the sapphire screen is manufactured / refracts light. My old SS0 has gentle ripples that can only be seen at certain angles under strong light. My SSSB3 has it too. I actually quite like it, in a weird way.

It’s not just sapphire, mine has effect you describe as well and it’s alluminium.

Hey Guys,

I'm wondering if this is an issue or if it is just my OCD.
There is this "lump" under the actual class on the display. It's really not visible until you look at it in certain lighting but once I saw I can't un-see it. I have never had this on my previous watches. (all aluminum).
I have attached some pics but it was really hard to capture them.
Any insight would be helpful.

I had it on mine, too. After visiting genius bar at an Apple store, I returned the watch. Mine was pretty severe and was pretty obvious. I have a video showing the potential defect.

Call me weird, but I always thought that it was normal and wasn't expecting a completely flush flat look. And actually I kind of like the lump border look. :)

I’ve just checked my S3 Hermes and it’s completely fine. Even checked using my iPhone torch. No imperfections.

I haven’t looked at mine. I can’t see it under normal viewing so, it doesn’t bother me.

Update: Damn! You guys just keep hammering away on this and my couriousity got the best of me. I looked and have it too. Truthfully, I had to look so hard to see it. It really doesn’t bother me as I don’t see it under normal use. Being the majority of those on this thread that have the condition make me satisfied it’s normal.

Bump - I noticed this on my Series 5 stainless steel model (that I ended up replacing for battery issues). Assuming it exists on all SS models, as before. Can others chime in? Saw it on every model I looked at in the Apple Store, unfortunately.
