Always had an aluminum AW up until now and never saw the need. And I’m not necessarily gentle with them. Now with the higher tier AWU and its supposed more durable screen I see even less need. After all isn’t that part of what we are paying extra for.

I do have a protector on my iPhone, and have dropped it a few times. I think they are more of a mental comfort than anything else.

I do property maintenance and also Fire And Rescue, my series 4 with Sapphire looked new when I sold it to buy the Ultra. I have no concerns about the Ultra getting scratched.

Series 5 titanium for 3 years. 2 scratches on the black body. No scratches on the screen. Heavy back yard work and jack hammering with that watch so go figure. I didn’t even get the scratches from the demo work I did I got the scratches year or so later. Not putting a screen protector on the watch. Maybe a case for heavy duty work if ever.

It’s been posted elsewhere but this video should answer the need for a screen protector (no).

Saw the video and was amazed but the Watch Ultra's durability, I too had an idea about putting a glass protector but it is a waste of money, and the glass to break soon. The Ultra's display is so strong even scratches are rare to see so for scratch protection I'll put a film screen protector from Gadgetshieldz which is cause glass will scratch eventually!

Watch Ultra. 12 days old. Working from home. Haven't even worked on the cars, cut the grass, or done anything remotely intense.

I still have my SS Series 4, which I wore for 3 years. Working on cars, home DIY, gardening, volunteer firefighting, smacking against door handles, plus an interstate move... FLAWLESS. Not a single f*cking scratch. And this f*cking Watch Ultra has a scratch on it after not even 2 weeks of extremely light use. Absurd.

Seems like a screen protector might not be a bad idea. I'm tempted to take it back to Apple and see what they say. I fully understand that this scratch is MY doing, but what kind of sh*t screen can't hold up 2 weeks when their Series 4 sapphire held up for 3 years and took a much greater beating?
Sounds like it might have come that way and you just noticed it a little bit later on. Either way--frustrating. I'd be asking for a replacement too. I like to at least START in pristine condition.

I've never managed to put any major damage on my Apple Watches either. Of the 3 I've owned, I've banged them on things, dropped them, and just not been especially careful with them in general, and the worst damage I ever sustained was when my wife's wedding ring put a light scratch on my original one about a month after I got it. I was not pleased, but it was such an unnoticeable mark that I quickly forgot about it.

My point is, I would expect the Ultra to be AT LEAST that durable.
