I’ve been reading reviews and watching youtube videos and I have yet to find the review mention any differences for speaker, screen brightness, bendability Aka (rigidity) between the 2018 and 2020 models? Is the screen every slightly better?

Just curious because we know about the 10% processor bump, AR features with LiDAR, wide angle camera.

I agree with you, NO ONE has posted anything of worth. If I had my own blog, I would‘ve reported on the rigidity of the 2020 edition, real world performance differences with the new Wifi6, advanced thermal architecture update, details on the tuned performance controllers. Why do all the posts online simply reiterate what’s on the Apple website? If anyone has any real information, PLEASE post on this thread

Jeez i thought I was the only one. I’m sure there will be better reviews in the near future. I went to that Jerry dude who bends everything and did not find anything.

You are NOT alone. I’ve been frustrated with the same generic information being given by everyone on Youtube. I’m getting mine soon (I ordered it on launch day) but I don’t want to open it until I find out if the aluminum used on the 2020 edition is sturdier than the 2018 edition. If not, I am returning it. UNLESS, the advanced thermal architecture is a noticeable upgrade AND if the tuned performance controllers are unique to the 2020 edition. Please post something here if you find anything. I’ll do the same.

Ok I’ll post links if there’s any worth while reviews that actually say something significant.

Apple seemingly only sent out review units to people that they knew would go hump their legs and give them nothing but praise. But like you, I’m looking for tear downs such as I fix it or Jerry rig everything

additionally, wi5 2 cameras and lidar does it do portrait on the back side now? No one has mentioned that either. I’m getting mine today but I’m already predisposed to trying them out and returning them as I expect to see no tangible gain over ,y 2018 units. And this is largely due to how Apple doesn’t tell us anything about the true specs other than it’s faster than PCs. Hate returning but when you have to do this to find out or wait and then hope there isn’t a huge delay in back order then I just jump in on the first round.

Get ready to get your minds blown: No hardware difference between 2018 and 2020 iPads aside the differences mentioned in the OP.

And you know this how? iPhone 6 to 6s had reinforcements done and the new unit is heavier. Also, is the cellular using intel modem still or not. These things are details no one also had mentioned.

Logic.
There is two more sensors in this device which account for the difference in heaviness.

Those sensors aren’t that heavy given their size. The cooling and potential for added aluminum reinforcement is where my money is.

Someone will try to bend it eventually. We'll see how rigid it ends up being.

What I see the difference is 3 to 5 grams. How much reinforcement should that be in your book?

Spoiler: If someone willingly bends it, it will break. If someone uses it normally, nothing happens. Slight bends out of the box will be normal like it was for the 2018 iPad Pro.

Doesn't make much sense. Why should the same sensors weigh more in the 12,9" iPad than in the 11" one?

Well it's not only the sensors. Don't forget cables, the housing of the sensors and all the integrated jazz. What if the LIDAR sensor needs one or two controllers by its side?

Guys, this is a spec bump, nothing remarkable. You do realize if this were more, Apple would market the **** out of it, right? They even called the processor A12Z so we don't get the wrong idea. Why should they re-engineer the whole chassis for this? This just makes no sense.

I heard it doesn‘t have night mode, and it doesn’t have portait on the front. I forgot who mentioned this in one of the reviews I read.

I know there is a bend thread but IMHO when I am spending 800-1000 or more on a device, bending is NOT normal. Or else they will call it the iPad fold Lol

My 12.9 3rd gen iPad Pro and is thankfully not bent and I have always carry it in my backpack to work. But when looking for iPads on swappa there is a noticeable percentage of slightly bent 3rd gen iPad Pros.

I know it is might be a spec bump but apple will not say, “our iPads are 20% more rigid” because it will acknowledge a previous design flaw that made it weak and prone to bending.
The new 16in and new MacBook Air have the redesigned keyboard, but apple didn’t taught the keyboard as more reliable. They marketed it as a magic keyboard. Look at the attached description I screenshot on Apple’s website. Backlit Magic keyboard vs backlit keyboard.

Awaiting Mr. Clean to bend the new iPad Pro 2020. I will not buy another one unless they fix that bend issue.

The one thing I have learned over the years, is not to read into anything a forum member tells me. I will go to the source. And so what if it’s the same. We were told that a few days ago, except for the camera, better support for your mouse and trackpad, a slight increase in speed on the CPU.

The front camera on the 2018 IPP does do portrait FYI. I believe it’s the rear one you are suggesting doesn’t? It has stereo cameras and a lot of the same from newer devices. So I’ll reserve judgment until mine arrives. Currently they are footing around with the brown clown.

I just need a new iPad. I am not concerned about the camera or bend ability/white spots, etc. I have a 10.5” that just drives me crazy. I have had many iPads since my first in 2012. Usually gift it to a relative and keep up with current issue. Obviously haven’t updated since the 10.5 and this is first iPad that has ever given me trouble. Constantly freezes causing hard reset, sometimes doesn’t respond to switching keyboard to numbers, sometimes types letters that are much worse than typos, who knows why they appear, try to correct those seemingly typos is a bigger mess.
Oh, I know it needs to be taken in and looked at, but too far to drive in my current stressful life not to mention trying to shelter in place.
would like to stay with iPP, not really necessary for my simple needs but want to and can afford to since I can use basic storage size. So what would be recommended in an iPP that would certainly work better than what I have now?

We have an 11“ 2020 now. Works flawlessly, isn‘t bent and we love it.

Definitely not a worthwhile upgrade. I would return it and wait for the next one, I really do believe they are going to release another one. wtf is Up with the processor, they couldn’t even use the A13? I have a 3rd gen 12.9 and I am not spending over $1k on another iPad until they make a real upgrade, this is a half ass upgrade at best.....IMHO
