Just saw this and thought I would add another stage of paranoia.

I'm having the same issue. Scheduled an appointment so curious to see how they will handle this. I can see the light leaking and although not as bothersome right now I am worried it will lead to bigger problems later on.

Hey all, I'm the guy in the video - just noticed someone posted the link here.

If you have any questions about it please let me know and I will do my best to answer. Couple of things I will add for clarity:

Apple has been GREAT! While in store they confirmed that the screen was indeed pulling away from the body of the watch but they were unsure when a replacement would come.

About that time I got a phone call from Apple (they saw a tweet I sent out) and it is from that point that I let them take over. I sent them a huge amount of photos from multiple angles for their Engineering team to look at and they also confirmed right away that it was screen related (Detaching). They processed an exchange for me and my replacement is coming this week.

I debated on not sharing my story but as the weekend came to a close I started to see others with the same issue and it's not just limited to the Sport Watch. Because I do a lot of videos I felt I needed to share for awareness.

Here are a few things I have observed about this issue:

- I do not believe I saw this issue on the first day of having the watch. I can not be certain but as I go back to look at my unboxing video I do not see the problem.

- I noticed that when charging the watch it gets warm - not hot - just warm. If I charge overnight the watch is warm in the morning. Could it be that the heat is building up inside and causing the adhesive to soften thus creating the problem with the screen detaching?

- My watch build week is 14, I noticed a few others with this problem also have week 14. My replacement coming is guess what?? Week 14.. guess we will see what happens.

I should also mention that this is more serious than just a cosmetic issue which is why I brought it to Apple. Consider this - a gap between the screen and body is a entry point. If moisture or water get in there it's bad news.

Thats about it for now, as I say feel free to ask me any questions otherwise I plan to update on the new replacement when it comes.

Week made

How can I find out whether they have made any with modern buckles?

There is a website where you can put in your serial number to see what week the watch was made.. I do not have the link at this moment but I am sure someone else here has it and can provide.

Hi psychonaut - I'm actually really confused with my device as yesterday night I inspected and there was a gap all around however this morning the gaps have nearly disappeared. I might have to agree with your theory of the charging because my device does get warm however yesterday I did not charge it so perhaps it gave time to heal and somehow fixed itself ?

Yesterday I had light leak from 3 sides. I will need to check around more in a dark room to really be sure but this is confusing. Probably going to cancel my appointment for the time being.

That is strange. i would keep an eye on it. If you can take photos to share that would be even better. Maybe the issue you are seeing is slightly different?

Love your videos Rick, always watching them. It has to be part of the week 14 batch issues, glad you posted that information. I've not noticed any issues with my week 16 SG/42MM but then again I'm waiting for my case before I even try wearing it out in the real world.

Awesome info from you as always, will help a ton of people!

Thanks! I hope there are some good Week 14 watches in there as the replacement being sent to me is another Week 14!

Hi please see the pictures attached. The first 2 dark ones are from yesterday when I noticed the light leak in a dark room. You can see there is a gap under the screen. As for the other 2 there is that residue now which is along the right side of the screen. I can't see the gap as much now but still worried. Am I imagining this or can you confirm there is a issue ?

Really hard to tell from those images. I don't see anything wrong in the dark photos, with the curved glass its possible its reflecting not leaking.

The other images are not close enough or sharp enough for me to tell. The best way for you to see if you have the issue is under a bright light / natural sunlight.

Also, in my situation I could run my finger across the edge of the screen that was still in place and it was smooth. Running my finger over the side that had the problem felt different and you could feel the gap between the screen and casing.

I have some dust collection on the left side of my watch between the screen and the casing. If i hold it level to my eyes it looks like the glass sits higher than the casing.

Is this the issue you are talking about? Did you call apple directly or schedule an appointment?

Not sure if you are asking me but mine is not dust. Check out the link above and i run though what happened.

Summary:

Both apple genius bar & Engineers over the phone confirmed mine is screen detaching. Replacement has already been shipped to me and just waiting for delivery now.

I had a similar ish thing not quit as bad as in the video but I just wiped mine off with a damp cloth. Looked pretty much the same as pollos' photo.

And yours wiped off? I just got another tweet from someone who sent me a photo on a SS model. its hard to tell in photos if its screens detaching or just dust.

On the photo above, do you happen to know the MFG week of your watch? It seems like many of these issues stem from week 14.

I used a thin piece of plastic (actually from the Watch packaging) and gently ran it down the side to see if it dislodged the "dust". It didn't budge. Might be glue, i don't know.

Its quite hard to see, but there is definitely a gap there. I just assumed this was the usual build quality as i've not seen another Watch up close to compare.
