Does anyone know the actual difference in screen size of the ultra vs the 8? Not the mm of the case but the actual screen size.

Barely any larger, if you go via the Apple site comparison. Most of that 49mm is bezel! Scroll down this page...

The difference is only 14x18.

Series 7 and 8 have a screen size of 396x484
The Ultra has a screen size of 410x502

Series 5 and 6 have a screen size of 368x448

It’s so bad they made out it’s the biggest screen well maybe a tiny bit but it’s actually more bezel and case than screen it’s ugly; I’m sticking with the series 7, I do wish the series 8 had the higher brightness etc

No Titanium S8……only stainless steel silver ,gold and graphite…….disappointing. I don’t think I care for the Ultra design, but will reserve judgment till I see in person on my wrist.

Really shocked that the screen size is like the 45mm I thought it would of had a much bigger display but nope just bezels and casing for no reason but to look more rugged

I guess the real selling point of the screen is the 2000nits brightness.
They could of made the series 8 have that so at least people that don’t need the ugly ultra could have a better display then I would of brought it over my series 7 but form the 7 to 8 it’s got nothing for me

Even though the screen isn't much bigger than the 7/8 I'm coming form the 6, so I still may get this opposed to the 8. I forgot this when initially thinking the screen size wasn't much larger. If I had a 7 I may have held off.

Wow, I thought we were getting a bigger screen! Slightly disappointed, even though I wasn't going to buy it.

Yeah, coming from the 6 it’ll feel much larger. But for anyone with the 45mm Series 7 it’s going to be hard to tell it’s any larger.

It’s like the old MacBook Air with the thick silver bezels.

You clearly don’t understand what rugged means. The titanium bezels extend up to protect the sapphire, which is prone to cracking.
I had a Series 3 for three years and currently own a Series 6 for almost two years. Both had sapphire crystals and were subjected to banging into things over that period of time. Neither suffered a scratch, much less cracked.

Did you frequently bang it against rocks while mountain climbing?? Just because it doesn’t happen to fit in your use case doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Lots of AW sapphire screens have cracked over the years, especially from edges, so Apple decided to protect the edges in their rugged model.

When I look at the numbers, I think... eh... they might as well be the same size... but when I look at them visually side by side, the Ultra looks significantly larger and everything on that screen will be larger.

I’ve banged it against stucco and wrought iron fencing among other hard surfaces, fully expecting to see a scratch or crack but there was no damage. What’s the basis for your claim that “lots of AW sapphire screens have cracked over the years, especially from edges?” I’d be interested in seeing the data you have to back up your claim as compared to the huge volume of watches Apple sells. Of course, sapphire crystals can crack if hit hard enough but it’s not something I would worry about. Having said this, having the titanium case provide extra protection to the crystal is additional insurance.
