I have a series 6 titanium and a series 7 titanium …so 44mm vs 45mm…….the difference is actually quite noticeable to me as a wearer and I’m sure there will be a bigger difference with the ultra
There isn't a bigger difference between 45mm and the ultra, the increase is 1.3% in screen size, the diff between the 44 and 45mm screen size is 17%.

Increase in pixels from S6 to 7:
+28 by +36

Increase in pixels from S7/S8 to Ultra:
+14 by +18

The display size increase is precisely 50% of the jump from S6 to S7. Although it’s not as big, I wouldn’t say insignificant.
Why would you look at pixels though, it's all about physical size and then the diff between 8 and ultra is only 1.3%, while the diff between 44 and 45mm is 17% in screen size.

Don’t forget, the curved edges of the s7/8 reflect light badly under bright conditions, effectively clipping the edges off of the display. The Ultra is not affected by this (from the vid I have seen), this will give the impression of a larger display.

This is also the reason the bezel difference looks larger between the two, than they actually are.

I guess the real selling point of the screen is the 2000nits brightness.
Not true. There will be design elements only for Ultra that won’t be available on the 41/45mm screens, as well as the lack of glare due to flatness, and theoretically easier swiping of faces and other swipe gestures due to the flatness of the screen edges.

1.3% size difference is all the justification Apple will need to lock certain design features to the Ultra alone. Look into your heart you know it to be true.

Really shocked that the screen size is like the 45mm I thought it would of had a much bigger display but nope just bezels and casing for no reason but to look more rugged

Yes, they made the casing much bigger just for the sake of bezels! They didn't do it at all for a larger battery, better speaker, action button, sensors, etc. They didn't make a bigger case to extend the buttons out for more space in size. Nope, they just did it for the sake of making it much larger! 🙃

Lol

Thank you for putting it kindly for those of us who have a hard time doing so after all these years!

Comparing physical size is the same as comparing number of pixels. Is it not? Both models have the same pixel density.

Can you explain how you come up with 1.3% and 17% numbers please?

By taking Apple's display area numbers from their own site. Also I don't think they ever state the pixel density for the watches and looking at the numbers those vary between the 44/45/49.

Apple Watch - Compare Models - Apple

44mm
368 by 448 pixels
977 sq mm display area

45mm
396 by 484 pixels
1143 sq mm display area

49mm
410 by 502 pixels
1164 sq mm display area
