No, that looks like a VM or something. I don't have the DP, but I'm fairly certain the login screen doesn't have a titlebar. :D

On a related note, this author wrote "Tonight's update to OS X Lion Developer Preview 4 includes an enhanced login screen." How is it "enhanced"? It's just different. Put down the Kool-Aid before it's too late...

I like it.

Although I don't understand what the author is referring to when they say the look is popping up everywhere on Mac OS and iOS these days.

This linen background is everywhere in iOS and OS 10.7. In iOS, it's the backdrop of folders when they're open, and it's all over the place in 10.7 when you're in Mission Control and looking at widgets. I'm not partial to the linen look, personally. It just seems a bit 1990s to me. It reminds me of a few backgrounds you could use on Mac OS 7.5.5. They would have been better with plain black or something. I don't know - I'm just not sure what's wrong with the current setup in Snow Leopard. Change for change's sake, I suppose.

It's to give the OS the illusion of depth. Think of it as your desk, with the OS elements placed on top of it.

Tonight's update to OS X Lion Developer Preview 4 includes an enhanced login screen (as seen during the WWDC keynote), including a new background showcasing the dark linen background that seems to be everywhere in iOS and OS X these days.

YouTube: video
The old login screen displayed the clock and a Wi-Fi menu. The new screen also displays the current built, current IP address, and computer name -- cycling through the information is accomplished by clicking on the clock.

Yeah. I was there. Why did you post a picture and credit someone else without verifying the source first? When you guys posted an article with my own YouTube video in it you didn't even credit me. I had to come to the forum (Which I am already a member of anyway) and make myself known as the author.

Will you be able to use a USB as a pass key instead of a password like windows.

I'm pretty sure that Twitter user is just a NeoGAF lurker who saw the image and decided to cash in on it.

Except there was no cash involved.. I hope!
Not that I particularly care, I came across this article and the pic looked familiar, just thought it was quite coincidental and funny.

I refer to "internet money" in other words, popularity. The user just wants people to follow him. He's basically one of those spammers who will follow you just so they can spam you with offers and advertisements. Every time I post something about my iPad, I get an offer from some idiot spambot offering me a free iPad. Except that this guy is real.

This user literally copied your image URL then tweeted it to MacRumors just for the fame. Looking through his history on Twitter, he just retweets and posts image links to images he didn't even take.

I'd hate to think who MR would credit for my video if it weren't for the fact that videos on YouTube already have usernames connected to them. Images do not. So maybe they should watermark their images with their username next time.

It seems that Apple are going for a 'darker' look in OS X Lion. Which I suppose I'm fine with. It's a shame to see the aqua scroll bars vanish though, I was quite fond of them. I have to say that I preferred the brushed metal of tiger over the current monotonous metallic colour of Leopard and Snow Leopard.

new intro vid??

Does anyone know if there is a new intro video to Lion? I know you can find it somehow... Library, core services... something like that. I am just very curious. They haven't really changed it for two releases now. It was the same one for Snow Leopard as it was for just Leopard. Someone should see!! :)
