Wow...it seems Windows 3.1 is totally different from Windows which released in recent decade.

Yet windows 95 is nearly identical to windows 7

Under the hood, Windows 95 had a heck of a lot in common with Windows 3.1 -- with the exception of the look and feel (desktop and window manager), and a more complete Win32 thunking subsystem.

Windows NT 3.1, which had a look and feel very similar to Windows 3.1, had more in common under the hood with most modern versions of Windows than Windows 95 did.
