Screw smartphone data plans required

Switch to Cricket or Virgin. You can be contract-free, unsubsidized, and have a vastly smaller monthly bill. There is no rule that says you have to use AT&T or Verizon. Going cold turkey seems so drastic when there are options out there that solve your specific issues.

It's like you bought a $50,000 Mercedes, complained that cars are too expensive, then switched to taking the bus instead of looking at a Chevy.

Come again? So I signed on expecting a telecom carrier to shaft me year after year? Lets see, removed unlimited data plans. Cap unlimited data plans. Charge $30 for family messaging plan. Ditch the low priced SMS plans. Charge for FaceTime over 3G. Create stupid shared data plans to confuse people that they are actually saving money. I did not sign on for these types of changes.

If you don't think USA phone carriers suck then you must have a lot of money to throw down the toilet.

Get off your high horse and come down to your senses.

I said there is an option - that is to rid your smartphone and go with a dumbphone and use an ipad. I did it just fine and am happy to save tons of money. Never once did I force this down any one's throat nor did I say this was the ultimate deal.

AT&T, Verizon, they are all pieces of dung. If you enjoy being stuffed by AT&T, continue on i won't interrupt. I knew how much it was before but with all these price increases, bs data capping, sharing plans being stuffed down your pants, it's not worth it.

It's pure mathematics my friend - cut back and save. I am happy to go with my iPad as my main source of PDA and i will not spend another dime on a smartphone. That's just my prerogative.

No offense to anyone who needs a smartphone; your needs differ of course.

There is zero dependence on a smartphone for me or the lines in the plan. There's no other way than going cold turkey. How do u slowly ease off their ridiculous pricing? Just cut the damn plans and voila, instant savings.

Your Benz analogy makes zero sense. It's why buy a Mercedes when u can't drive it fast. And when gas is thru the roof, it makes no sense to own a Mercedes because you can get to the same place with a Honda. The bus is sprint. No one wants to ride the bus.

You're the one who bought all this smart phones and then come here in the forum crying how expensive data plan is. You went above your budget and now blaming AT&T for your stupidity. Right, I'm the one who's dumb. LOL.

I would've just gotten my phone unlocked by the carrier and used a pre-paid service like straight talk or something similar. I don't have to buy a dumb phone and don't have to buy data either. Of course, I'm not on a family share plan either.
Sounds like a win-win.
