The Apple Care Protection Plan does not include coverage for accidental damage, whereas Apple Care Plus does. The specific terms for the instances of accidental damage (two, I believe) and the deductible you have to pay based on what’s damaged can be found on their website. With the MBP being a portable device with a higher chance of being used while mobile, the Plus coverage might be beneficial.

Why would you do that and buy an out of date computer lol? Why not just buy a 2014 or 2013?
After 5 2016/2017 MBPs with issues I know the 2015 I’m now using will work.
[doublepost=1506821780][/doublepost]It’s possible repair depots still don’t have parts that will correct the issue. ..& they may know it. The 2016/2017 MBPs are abysmal.

No you don’t.
When you have the Apple Repair Depot actually leave their tests running on a ‘repaired’ 2016 unit shipped back to you and then you use THEIR tests & have ‘repaired’ MBP fail in under an hour talk to me. The 2015 is known for being a tank, across many industries.

Nah not really. Your anecdote doesn’t matter.

It’s not anecdote. It’s fact. Luckily password for their Test account was.. you guessed it, test.

Do you think it’s wortj to grab AppleCare plus?

What’s the difference between the regular Apple care I see on eBay? On amazon as well for a cheaper price

Regular AppleCare extends coverage to 3 years. This covers the computer breaking due to no fault of yours. AppleCare+ does this but also covers accidental damage, but it is more expensive and you have to pay a deductible if each accidental repair. It covers two accidental incidents. So if you spill something or the computer falls, you can get your MacBook Pro fixed for $99-349 depending on damage. That might sound like a lot, but usually these repairs are hundreds more (sometimes into the thousands). I plan on getting AppleCare+ myself. It has to be purchased within 60 days of getting the computer.

I've never heard the retina MBP referred to as a tank... It maybe all in your head. I work with both generations on a daily basis and I just think the new Touch Bar models are fantastic.

At least the regular AC, yes - especially if you use your battery a lot as you can get a free battery out of the deal, AppleCare is great! There are still quite a few unknowns in regards to keyboard longevity (there hasnt been enough time to say anything in quantitative terms - but I can say that I have observed the 2017 models having keyboard issues seem to be quite rare) - and out-of-pocket repairs are going to be pricey. That's not to say you will have an issue, but, if you do, life's going to be much easier IMO. The AD protection the AC+ adds is a nice bonus for computers that are often used on-the-go.

I have a 2016 nTB MBP. Like plenty of others, i have keyboard issues on the machine. I take it to the Apple Store and leave it for repair. Despite being my work machine, i leave it with them, and am without a proper machine for a week. I get the machine back and...absolutely nothing has been done to the machine. on the list of things fixed, a "intensive internal cleaning".

I call AppleCare back and they tell me to take it back into the store. Umm, no.

Does anyone know how to get better service from Apple than this? I am highly disappointed in the quality of service i received. And for them to tell me to take it back so they can do absolutely nothing again is quite frankly, insulting.

How exactly is this apple care's fault? Sounds like the issue is at the genius bar at the apple store, no?

I consider this AppleCare's fault because the Depot did not repair the unit at first. The Genius at the store even put "replace top case" under solutions before it was sent out the first time. They did their part and did everything right, in my eyes. Looking at my first post i realized i did not specify the machine was sent out, but i did in subsequent posts.

Either way i got the text message that the machine will be back today. I'll update everyone when i get home this evening and take a look and see if it has been repaired this time.

EDIT: Wife called and let me know the machine arrived. I asked her to look at the paper and see what was done. It appears they did indeed finally replace the top case on the machine. I'll test out this evening. But looks like this finally may be resolved.

Well, got the machine back, and after a day or so, everything seems to be fixed. They did replace the top case with a 2017 version, and while the usb-c ports are still a bit loose, they are better than they were before. They called and followed up with me, and i gave them the honest feedback. ultimately they did make it right, but still disappointed about the first repair.

I had the top-case on my 2016 replaced twice for the keyboard issue. First time was in April and then again last month... then 3 days after the last repair the SSD failed??

Hopefully the 2017 keyboards fix the issues.

It seems that apple only sells the AppleCare+ version now, except for perhaps the appleTV. Otherwise the Apple Care Protection Plan isn't sold by apple (I tried calling in but was told only the + plan is being offered). Some support staff are calling the warranty that comes with every device the "Apple Care Protection Plan".

There you go. Although in my opinion, AppleCare+ is worth the extra $100

That is for the older MacBookPros. When they check your model/serial number they will let you know.

"This program has been discontinued and replaced with the Apple Care + (Plus) program. The new program is more expensive but now includes some accidental coverage, alebit with deductibles. It is also international coverage."

It doesn’t say it won’t cover the new MacBooks. Also, the reviews on the site seem to be for recent machines. In fact, under questions, it says it works for the 2017 models.

Maybe the "new" design isn't as durable as it looked while in the development stages... ;)
