Are you going to be using class 2 for your SD cards?

Class 2 is super slow. You should be getting Class 10.

To all of those that want to use SD cards for storage you have to realize it's not that reliable. Failure rates are way higher than an external. There are plenty of small external drives that will give you 10x+ storage and much higher read/write speeds for the same or slighty higher price. It's a much better deal.

But it's not flush :)

Just ordered a 32GB Lexor class 10 for 94$ off Amazon to use with my Norcent adapter with the USB end cut off. Gonna be awesome.

That's amazing to hear Dave. Thanks for taking the risks and pioneering a solution. Could you take pics of the card in and out of the slot? How do you get it out of the slot, tweezers?

Yeah getting it out with tweezers but it's tough.

Anyways, I've got a Lexar 32GB class 10 Micro SD inside the Norcent trio adapter with the USB end cut off and it's fitting flush. Just need to sand the Norcent adapter to make it smooth where I cut it and it'll be a perfect fit.

Would you mind posting some pics of how the SD card looks? (Or anyone else who modded their SD card).

Could you provide measurements of the modded SD card as well? I want to know how deep the SD card can actually be. I don't have my Air yet, but thinking of doing a mod like this while I wait.

i'm highly interested in the result, too! maybe you could file a chamfer near the border of the adapter so you can get it out with yout thumbnail?

How much (if at all) is this affecting your battery life? I got one of those nearly-flush USB drives that holds a microSDHC in it, but just leaving it connected (no disk activity) shaved nearly 45 minutes off my battery life the other day.

i think some people are missing the point. sd slot, not usb. flush, means it doesnt stick out at all.

i like the original idea of the micro sd card that fits into the adapter and doesnt stick out.

my question... why doesnt apple just make the sd card slot flush to begin with? i had a sony vaio that it worked perfect and when you press it, it pops out. too easy right.

An MMC Mobile card (Or RS-MMC) would be about the form factor you'd need, it's about half as long as an SD card but has the same connector. I think it's compatible with SD readers. And you can use the SD card adapter to take it out.

However they only came in low capacities, unfortunately. The largest one I had was 128MB. And I don't think they're still around. It would be nice if someone would make SD cards that way.

By the way I have seen SD cards where the last half is only plastic and the first half contains the actual cards. In that case you could cut the plastic off. But they've always been low-capacity and slow ones.

So what if this thread is old - I need exactly this device, this thread set me on the right track.

As it turns out, there are numerous vendors on ebay that offer a flush micro SD adapter. But they're not easy to find in stores, at least where I am.

Anyway I just got one for $2.50 including free international shipping.

search eBay for "short micro sd adapter"

Is there an advantage going microsd with adapter over a std sd card? Wouldn't it be slower and more expensive?

For movies & music I've been using a PNY StorEdge 128 gig SD card in my 13" MBA for about a year, and while it's not exactly flush it does have a low enough profile that it does not get caught / snagged on anything.

B&H Photo had a very good price on them back then, I believe around $90-95 for the 128 gig model.

It fits like this:

I have a friend who has one of these inserted in his MBPro and it works perfectly. Just barely stick out of the laptop reader.
