SDL2 for older MacOS X

Well, this is fun... I have just stopped the installation of qt4-mac-devel, redo the command "sudo port install qt4-mac-sqlite3-plugin", the old qt4-mac went reactivated and now the sqlite3 plugin is installed... however, if I try to redo the same command, the terminal told me the same thing as before (even in verbose mode)

Anyway the plugin now is there, the verbose install of phonon is the following:

You need to clean the build first, other it just tries to resume.

I just installed phonon with qt4-mac-devel with no issues on Leopard.

@lauland I got SDL2 building with Cocoa from 2.0.22 after some torturing of Claude to handle insane number of autoreleasepools LOL
It works with ffplay without visible problems, however not with mpv: mpv either renders blank white window or partial video image with video garbage on remaining part of the window (audio works in both cases). I don’t know how that works, and Claude kept switching between this or that failure. Given that ffplay works just fine, presumably mpv also can, but I have no idea how to fix it. Are you interested to dive into this again? )
 
Well, I have extremely mixed feelings about AI...but it can't be worse than the brain dead attempt I had made when I basically commented them all out! (And drove myself half insane in the process).

The first thing I'd do is build all the standard tests (in the "test" directory part of SDL2) and see if any of them fail.

Weird that ffplay seems to work...but mpv (or a lib that it links with) might be using some specific feature, etc. My guess is some backing surface is missing or pointing in the wrong place...or the copy from that surface is.

Be interesting to see what it replaced the pools with, and if there's now memory leaks. So, I could definitely take a look.

I am not an AI enthusiast at all, and have seen enough of junk output, so no illusions. At the same time there are some tasks which I just won’t realistically do by hand due to time constraints, and so far nobody else has done either. I won’t ask Claude to fix a cryptography lib or gcc module LOL, but something end-user, low-risk, with visible criteria of success is fine, IMO.

ffplay was working reproducibly and with no issues either from the get-go or pretty fast, and kept working through subsequent attempts to sort out mpv, which all failed in this or that way. Claude is not good with GL, in my experience, and I spent quite some time on several related codebases with it. Or maybe it is just because I myself have little idea of what is needed for GL, and cannot give required guidelines, while with Qt I know pretty well what exactly must be done – and with Qt results are significantly better.

I was also able to use this for the Minecraft port I am working on. My experience with SDL2 on PPC has actually been pretty good, everything just works.

Minecraft is being built with `libsdl2-cocoa` 2.32.10_1 (+opengl) and works great. I see it was updated recently, I haven't done a port sync in a few weeks so no experience with the new version.

Ah, ok. What the port has is cocoa from 2.0.3 with codebase of 2.32.10, and it is known to work fine, generally.
What I referred to above was an attempt to get cocoa from 2.0.22 working.

I ran into this exact problem once again. I compiled https://github.com/skynettx/raptor and the game fully runs with sound and everything after 2 very minor fixes needed to get it to compile (strnlen and AudioComponentDescription).

Interaction/input is impossible 🙁. I just get the spinning ball, the game shows up as not responding in Activity Monitor and spindump process is active.

EDIT:
This is using libsdl2-cocoa-2.32.10_1+opengl. I can confirm that the issue does not exist when using libsdl2-x11-2.32.10_0+opengl.

Yeah, that’s a known issue with Cocoa one. Annoying, since it makes video controls unusable in mpv. (Likewise, x11 is fine.)

I am away from the hardware at the moment, unfortunately, so can try this only once I am back. If you wish, we can add it as a non-default variant first. You could make a PR with a patch (as I understand, it does not need to do anything non-trivial, just a patch against existing source?).

P. S. Are fixes back-portable to SDL2? (Most of related software still use SDL2, so it makes sense to fix both.)
