I'll stick with this Moto Z Play phone until something better comes along, but will most likely just start moving over to PC devices now. I need a portable that I can port my media onto and write on.

Shrugs. Such is.

I still have my Note 3 for all my media. So I can't completely get a rid of Android. My laptop is an HP PC.

To my surprise, my iTunes account no longer detects new Apple hardware when hooked up to my iMac That included the gifted iPad Mini 4. I troubleshot everything and my USB ports work (they're accepting my external peripherals). As Apple zapped my usage and standby time in any Apple device that came into my possession (including this iPad Mini 4), I suppose I should not be surprised.

Since I don't feel like sifting though the forum to figure out what you're talking about, can you explain how you came to the conclusion that "your iTunes account no longer detects new Apple hardware" or how Apple "zapped your usage and standby time"?

I'm genuinely curious.

At first glance, I'd guess that your Mac is older and you're running a version of iTunes that doesn't support newer iDevices.

Regardless, iTunes is a steaming pile of garbage. I haven't used it for anything besides a backup or two in the past few years.

2013 iMac bulit in 2015 running El Cap and now Yosemite (and with Yosemite there were no problems). Running current iTunes 12... Detected all Apple products prior to my writing Tim Cook and Angela Arendhts in late December.

The only reason why it is pivotal for me to sync with a computer is simply to get my movies and music onto the device.

But all of this is moot so...

After swearing off iPhones and getting all Marvin the Martian about :apple: thanks to my December debacles, I was flat out surprised when my local Apple store leader contacted me today after reading my detailed email to Tim Cook and Angela Arendhts. He is willing to give me a discount or gift card, and do whatever is possible to repair our relations.

In the interim, I went Android (returning this phone tomorrow: not my cup at all) and family gifted me an iPad Mini 4 which I will keep.

I am veering toward an 64gb SE now for a variety of reasons, but I have questions:

How is WiFi/LTE reception?
Are calls louder than the 6s?
What is the screen like in comparison to the Mini 4? Granted, I won't be doing much reading on the SE with the Mini in tow, but I may text some.

If you were in the situation what would you choose?

I was in a similar situation just before Christmas. I have an iPad Mini 2 and had a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus. I kept the Mini 2 which I now use for productivity and entertainment and purchased an SE 64GB.

As to your questions:
WiFi and LTE reception are fine (but I never measured the speed of the 6+),
call volume is fine, and
I have had no problem texting or engaging in light browsing on the SE (though this is better on my Mini).

I much prefer the smaller size of the SE over the 6+ to use as a phone and the Mini is perfectly portable for when I need it.

I own both and I love SE for the portability and size, which is why it's my gym/workout device. Besides that 7 plus for everything else.

I wish the 7 was as light or lighter than the SE. SE is a great phone but I had to ultimately go w the better 7 screen. Just a tad too heavy though.

7 plus not in my buying equation. I don't want to live on my phone. Brick of a phone

Well, sounds and looks like an issue in software on the Mac at the moment. Btw, you don't necessarily need iTunes to get content from Mac to phone, but of course it's awesome when it works.
I sometimes use the Documents app to connect to my shared iMac folders via Wifi. It can even sync folders wirelessly.

Thanks for the response and the tip. Politely though, it's not at the moment. It's permanent. Every Apple mobile product no longer shows usage or standby in the battery life and my machine does not detect them. That's since December 22nd. I erased and restored this iMac to factory settings and the lack of detection and battery info shut off still exist.

In the past Cook and his team handled any issues I had with professionalism, speed and courtesy. I thought for sure they would go to bat for me considering how many times I attempted to stick with their product since September. I thought wrong. I praised them when they did the job right too, not just when things tanked.

Ultimately, it is all for the best though. I will be learning new technologies and perhaps getting my hands dirty with hardware upgrades beyond adding more RAM. I am no longer angry with Apple as they were pushing me away prior to actually doing it. I am researching alternatives now.

And on that note, I say to everyone enjoy your Apple tech or whatever you use. There is no wrong choice and thank you again for responding.

Enjoy the dark side then and let's hope Microsoft and that hardware manufacturer have a response team for people that contact the CEO to report issues.

Seriously though, I hope your issues don't just move to some other area of computing! Best success.

I wanna revive this thread

I'm still completely torn between the two, if I were to only have one.

Good thing I don't have to debate it and do have both but the fact that SE may be the answer honestly, is impressive.

Love my SE still coming up on a year later and two jailbreaks later (9.3.3 now 10.2)

The 7+ packs such a punch specs wise tho. Dual cam 3gb and dci-p3 screen come to mind

Whenever I sim swap I am shocked by its hugeness or its small size

and my Moto is crashing all over the place. Interestingly, the iMac port issues I had disappeared when I reverted this iMac to Yosemite. I no longer have the iPad Mini but will probably get an SE because Android and I just haven't mixed very well over these three months. I haven't gotten what I've paid for with either OS and will be calling Verizon in a little bit to pay off the Moto.

@ericwn Haha! Too true about CEOs who respond, but I still think that shutting off my battery usage/standby time was an extremely sleazy thing to do. Oh well.

and cheers to @thadoggfather for reviving this thread. I think it's great folks can juggle various phones and sizes. I will definitely be going SE (the 5 was the best iPhone I owned so), but will wait and see what the new model entails (definitely would like a 128gb size).

Never say never...

The 7 plus for the following reasons:

SE is far too small
SE has a low resolution display
SE has outdated specs
SE does not have a dual camera
SE is not waterproof
SE does not have dual speakers

The last three aren't debatable. First three are

Too small is subjective but I agree at times it's why I have two iPhones. 326ppi on parity with 7, 7+ is 401ppi. Difference is brightness contrast clarity and outdoor viewing angle. Resolution isn't really the problem.

First gen Touch ID but same with iPad pros. Lack of 3D Touch and a third time of same design. 7 is a third time of same design too. A9 and 2gb still keeps up just fine. Especially powering that comparative "low res" screen

For me, I've shut off 3D Touch on my 6s and temporarily owned 7+, didn't use the dual camera on the 7+ and if 2GB ram runs the smaller screen fine, great. My Moto is spazzing with 3GB. And the battery life on the two 7s I had were worse than my faulty 6s. I will see what happens but honestly, I am a bit skittish putting major coin out for another phone.

My biggest gripe is honestly the quality of the screen

It's quite alright on its own but when you're used to better it's hard to accept going back.

If they modernized the panel I would probably not care about any other shortcomings. Gen 2 Touch ID would be nice tho

Dang, the screen is huge for me. Granted, I never looked at the SE in December so I will have to compare the screens.

Honestly, I am stunned the Moto claims to be 403 PPI because it doesn't that good to me. I've contacted this Apple store leader a couple of times by email since my initial response. If nothing, I will wait until after the Apple event and call him since I still have his number.

I would rather not spend stupid amounts on a phone though as I've had better luck with Apple's cheaper models. At least I won't have to go through SIM card hell any more: Verizon verified I just tell Apple I want to port my phone # over and that will hopefully be that.

Would appreciate if folks could continue to post their comparisons.

I really wish there was an SE2 with the iPhone 7 lte modem, better selfie cam, and 3D Touch. Wouldn't mind a minor battery bump but I can't complain. The battery is pretty good

If it was me I'd choose 7+ hands down because of the dual camera and I think the design is better. But of course everyone's needs are different.

Are you still getting a discount or whatever? These phones couldn't be further apart in terms of price (kind of funny to compare them 1:1, if price were a factor). If you're actually paying out of pocket, it's hard to beat the value of SE.

Why not get both? Glue the back of the SE to the back of the 7! Then you can have the best of both worlds! Of course that would be one hell of a camera bump . I'm totally kidding of course. I have the SE and have loved it and plan on keeping it for a while. Not particularly smitten with the 6/6S/7 models and since I dispise these monthly payment plans I'm not sure if I'll be upgrading to the 8 this year. The SE works for what I use it for and really that's what matters.

To contribute to the thread, the 7 Plus is the better phone. It also costs twice the amount of the SE, so you pay for the much improved specs. To me it was worth it, but I like big phones and needed 256GB.

The rest of the topic sounds pretty tinfoil hat though. I don't know what the actual issue is, OP, as you've yet to actually explain what's happened without using terms like "zapped by Apple", but regardless, I can guarantee that Tim Cook isn't behind it, as you seem to keep implying. That's just outrageous to even suggest that the company or its CEO is setting out to what, prevent you from being a customer? Please. My suggestion would be to take your iMac to an Apple Store and have them set up the hardware you're buying on the spot.

I'd say the only thing the SE has going for it compared to the 7+ is that it's more comfortable to use. Then it's up to the consumer to rank how important that is to them.
